Hello again Freddie and Monica. Woooow 😂😂😂 what memories you have made me relive seeing that Datsun 120Y. My father had one exactly the same color, but it was not a sw type. It had 4 doors and a short boot. Incredible 😮😮😮, the license plate of the car according to the application that I have installed on my mobile is from January 1, 1979 (it is 42 years and 10 months). I'm sorry to tell you that car has been restored. I remember that my father's car had sheet metal problems and I don't think it has held up so well these 42 and a half years, without going through a workshop. I am very happy that you continue to enjoy my island so much. 👏🏼👏🏼👌👌👌 I hope that you will soon also visit one of the towns considered "most beautiful in Spain" - Garachico. With its great volcanic history. The people that rose from the ashes, like the Phoenix. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🔟 I hope at some point I can see you on one of your visits and meet you in person and greet you. By the way, in Puerto de La Cruz, there is one of the two Anglican churches that are in Tenerife. The other is in Santa Cruz. Both very pretty.

Hi both, thanks for the tenerife tour, i have never been. Will change that in future i hope. Its very interesting and beautiful. Savvy Uk car buyers flocked to Datsun models for reliability and they were no more rotten than the fords/ vauxhalls/ renaults and citroens of their day. Thing is they did something about it. The chassis were copies of uk cars leaf springs and all but their engines as in Japanese motorcycles were so smooth and reliable and gearboxes like mk 2 fords, like butter. As a mature person i had several nissans and for the first time in my life as a poorer youth, i dint have to spend time and money on repairs. I also have had german british and japanese motorcycles. The japanese reliability wise do not have a competitor.

The Datsun 120y or sunny as it was known was 1200cc 70hp not far off the bonny figures😂. They had square speedo and rev counters. If journos test cars now that dont have 180hp and a turbo they are slow. Those 70s cars still cruised the motorways at 70 and were leaps and bounds ahead of marinas/1100s ans allegros. Love it when u feature these classics, its an extra bit of spice. A bit hurtful when you say can anyone remember them😂😂😂😂yes i can and lots before them😂😂😂. I have had surgery recently and am laid up. I have watched and rewatched your vlog ( my fave on u tube) , its like a drug, i need my next fix. My favourite -- the isle of wight. Ha Ha Freddie, I used to have a Datsun 120y in exactly that colour, i think it was called Canary Yellow, But mine was the saloon with 4 doors, eventually drove it to the scrapyard the engine running like a sewing machine but the English weather rotted all the bottoms of the doors and sills. Loved that car. Also The Monestary in Puerto is a fantastic Restaurant complex now with wild birds roaming around the whole place while you eat, Chickens, Cockerals, Pheasants all stand next to you while you eat, Starve yourself before you go the food is fantastic, especially for meat lovers. then walk around the gardens. @Innerspace1002 жыл бұрын
I remember them from when I was a kid. There were loads of them here in Norway. All but a very, very few are long gone now. Chiefly due to rust, as you pointed out. In fact, pretty much all Japanese cars from the 70s, and also the 80s, were extremely prone to rust. Years ago, I had a 80s Subaru 1800GL estate. And while the engine and drive train was buildt like a tank, the caross wasn't. Thin panels everywhere. It was also sound deadened with some sort of spray foam material that just sucked up moisture... No wonder it rusted up...

Our family car was a yellow Datsun 120Y Coupe circa 1977 'S' reg - the only reason we got rid of it a few years later is because the bodywork virtually disintegrated. I remember going with my dad to collect it from the showroom. Copes I think it was in Bearwood near Brum. It had tinted windows which, in those days, was like wow!

I remember these. Bought an almost new White Datsun Cherry Estate to learn on in 1976. All Datsuns of that period like all cars in the U.K. suffered from rusting. Changed it when I passed that year for a White Mk. 1 Atlas White Golf 3 door LS 1588 c.c.. The fastest Golf prior to theGTI’s introduction. Chocolate velour interior instead of the other car’s black plastic. Sold the Datsun for the same price as purchased.

@FreddieDobbs3 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard the old Datsuns had a fairly serious rust problem😆 Monika didn’t love thd pillion comfort on thd Pan America- she found the seat significantly higher than the rider’s seat and it made her feel uneasy being so high up, and the seat wasn’t that soft. She prefer’s my Bonneville and Harleys for pillion comfort. A flatish, low seat and (ideally) some kind of backrest are important in Monika’s eyes🙂

Wow, those are a proper rot box, can't be many of those left. My dad had a Red 120Y van for his bricklaying business, (basically that estate you seen but panelled) A few years later, I had a MK2 Escort stolen and bought a white 120Y saloon at an auction for £215 to get me back on the road. A week later, the front struts collapsed inwards as they where rotten. We jacked them back into place with a builders akrow prop, welded some patches on and bolted a couple of steel bars across the strut Tops. Drove it like that for 8 mths until the MOT ran out, happy days😂

Superb video as always Freddie, keep it up! On the number plate subject, if you see TF first it was registered in Tenerife side on the archipelago , and GC in the Gran Canaria side. Also the numbers and letters go on order indicating how old a car is, starting by 00001 then up to 99999 and then 0001 A to 9999 A and so on. Then the newers ones are already going up on three letters like for example CRF and then it would go CRG, this way you can tell how old a car is by its number plate.
@FreddieDobbs3 жыл бұрын
That’s so interesting- I wondered why it’s just “TF” and “GC” plates that I see. I’ll save this- thank you Adrian🙂
