Great tips- especially about the airport taxi options. Sadly, we are arriving in Puerto Escondido pretty late ( 10pm or so), and have several bags and a ten year old, which are not exactly conducive to walking all that way and there being no guarantee of a taxi. And we plan on walking pretty much everywhere as well - the walkability is a huge plus of Puerto Escondido. Thanks again, and we are looking forward to the next video. On a side note, it is currently -40C across Western Canada!!!

Oh gosh....we see that weather in Western Canada right now....yikes! Hurry up!!! 😊 Yes, Puerto is such a wonderfully walkable place, that is such a wonderful feature! And if the heat gets to you and your out and about, just hop a collectivo, the ride is just 10 pesos (any distance)! Sounds like you might want the taxis right at the door, yes. Which area will you be staying in once arrived? Thanks so much for watching again! And for the comment, you know we love em!

Usual rate for a taxi outside the airport to Zicatela is 80-100 in low season. Almost always 80. Colectivos are now 10 pesos a ride inside the town.

Great update @fotoset, Just as we suspected...Christmas taxi rates! Perhaps we'll go back after Christmas and the New Year and check/record again for people. :) When we arrived (mid Nov/21) the prices were not as high as when we recorded this video! @@PlanFree thanks so much for caring and answering, I appreciate it a lot. We love water, we are Swedish (citizens, but I am also Argentinian) and we have lived near lakes and forests the last years. So water would be great, even if it's a lake. We prefer that, though mountains would be nice to visit. But to stay, more near the water. We land in Oaxaca city and plan to leave it soon, I don't enjoy big cities. So all tips are more than welcomed. Thanks a lot from the heart

You are most welcome @Cecilia Giordani! We do care and we understand! We wonder about many different locations also and ask others for tips. It's so helpful! So, you really might want to check our Puerto. It has amenities like a small little city does (plenty of markets and stores to get items you need and want) but it's small enough that you bump into people you know after a while. It has loads of restaurants and so many beaches....its pretty wonderful. And from Puerto it's quite easy to catch a bus up into the hills for some mountains and cooler air or up and down the coast for a change of scenery. 😘 I mean the ocean areas available in Puerto, Mazunte, Huatulco are all pretty special and that would definitely take care of your "water" request! Hahahaa. Right!?

Is the tap water from a well or a reservoir , what's wrong with it ?
@PlanFree
@PlanFree Жыл бұрын
We don't know exactly what's wrong with it and sometimes the locals can drink it no problem whereas the tourists get very sick from it. It could have something to do with bacteria foreign to the tourist stomachs. Thank you for watching and commenting!🥂 Have you been to Puerto Escondido before?

Did you think to ask any of the Mexicans working at the airport how they got there? (It sure as hell was not by taxi.) Invariably, there is a local bus or minibus serving airport workers. In Mexico, the stop will usually be at the edge of the airports land, and is generally unmarked. So you have to ask, or if you are observant, just watch for locals setting off down the sidewalk. (They are not walking into town, just as far as the place where the local bus into town can be caught.)
@PlanFree
@PlanFree 2 жыл бұрын
Yes great point and tip! Thanks for mentioning this @jim mccann. No, we didn't ask and yes we do believe the buses and collectivos do go to the airport. At the time of this video making we hadn't discovered the collectivo routes yet. Very smart idea. 👍 And thanks again for watching and contributing to our comments section!

Mexico is much more friendly to those who do not speak Spanish. They will work with you. French people typically demand that you at least show your willingness to attempt to speak their language while the US can be absolutely intolerant of those who do not speak English.
@PlanFree
@PlanFree Жыл бұрын
That's all true and we've experienced or witnessed all this scenarios also @centeno2254. We find it has a lot to do with the personality of the person. Are they willing, open? And, in defense of the people of the USA....poor guys, haha....often they seem to "demand" English only (again, we find it would totally depend on WHO you're talking with in the US) because they don't speak anything else! I can see that. Do you think it depends on which soil we are standing as to which language we should attempt to learn and speak? We thank you for watching! I keep reading to never take a random taxi on the side of the road unless it's part of a taxi stand. How can you tell if a taxi is legit doing it this way?
@PlanFree
@PlanFree 2 жыл бұрын
Really!? We hadn't read that or really seen that much in our 5.5 months living in Puerto @Michael. We did have our own scooter for transportation.... so we weren't 100% looking at taxi's....but from what we saw we could use ANY taxi we saw, it was just a matter of securing the fee BEFORE you get in! And do you mean IN Puerto or do you mean in ANY random part of Mx? Thanks so much for watching and leaving a comment. We appreciate the question and interaction. Your lucky your not in the US. I pay 50 to 70 dollars in large cities in the US. Why be cheap in a poor country.
@PlanFree
@PlanFree Жыл бұрын
Hi again @centen, for what please? ....gonna guess.....taxi? (not 100% on what you are referring to, the water, the fruits and veg, the taxi's?) ....taxi's makes the most sense as to what you ar paying $50-70 for. Well, for us, the reason we price shop is for keeping costs lower and in line with what they should be in an area/city/country. A cab ride that shoudl be $10 should NOT be paid for at $50, let's say. Again, that's our opinion. We are not believers in flinging around all the moola a person CAN in a more afforable country, and that is to KEEP that country more afforable and not, if you will, gentrify all the costs of living. In over 12 years of travelling the world, we have noticed areas that get inundated with foreigners tend to get up-priced, then overpriced and even locals cannot live there any more. We feel that there is sweet spot, a FAIR price, to pay for things. Not necessarily trying to get the most rock bottom price, and taking advantage of someone's service, but paying a FAIR price (sometimes, yes, perhaps a tad more than a local) but we do NOT appreciated being Gringoed either! (as they say) haha! Mexico's taxi prices, even in the more expensive Puerto Escondido, are FAR lower than the USA. Still. Luckily! Thanks fro the chat, glad you found our channel! Have you been lucky enought to travel to Puerto Escondido?
@centeno2254

@@PlanFree Yes, I find it interesting when people go to Mexico and remark about the taxi costs and are pressed to look for the best deal. Of course, the cost of a taxi from the airport in most US cities is horribly expensive. Yes, it is logical for people to want the best deal. However, my objection is to the tourist inflection that often reinforces the stereotype of cheating cab drivers, ignoring the sky-high prices we pay for the same service in the US. The difference is that this often makes it seem like Mexican cab drivers are scammers while US cab drivers are not so much personally characterized in the same way.
@PlanFree
@PlanFree Жыл бұрын
True, it is often still thought of, in Canada, the US, that taxis are regulated and told what their fares shall be. Monitored, metered. It is also still a long held belief that Mexico is a kind of a wild West (read = South! Haha). And also in the US there IS no bartering or negotiating. Whereas in Mexico it IS part of the culture. We feel they are totally different countries with totally different price points, customs and methods. It is what it is. And we LOVE it! ☺️ 🇲🇽
