Most of them gained their freedom when the Spanish abolished slavery so the Africans were assimilated over time. As opposed to say Haiti, that was pretty segregated and homogeneous, which is why despite being a French colony, most Haitians have no French ancestry.

It's why the Dutch didn't intermarry with Africans, and Indonesians. The British didn't intermarry with Indians and Africans. And the French didn't intermarry with Africans. This has been a thing. For a while.
