Puget Sound Gateway Program - SR 509 Completion Project

Welcome to the Puget Sound Gateway Program's "SR 509 Completion Project". This Project runs from the SR 509 interchange at South 160th Street, in Burien, to the I-5 interchange at South 272nd Street, in Federal Way. The purpose of this project is to ease congestion on I-5 near Tukwila, add a southern access point to the Sea-Tac International Airport, and improve travel between industrial districts for general purpose traffic and trucks. This will be accomplished by building a new, four-lane, three-mile long "SR 509 Expressway" to bypass I-5, SR 99, and local streets.

I work in White Center and live south. It will be nice to not need to drive down to Southcenter and back up the hill past the airport every day. Tends to get backed up at Southcenter / 405 often.

What natural areas? There have not been any natural areas around there for decades. The only ‘natural areas’ were artificial constructs when the residential areas on the north and south ends of the SeaTac runways were cleared out in the 1970’s. That was done for noise abatement and to give crash space for airplanes landing and taking off from SeaTac. I remember seeing all that housing removed. And then partially redeveloped later on.
