Something else that gives extra weight to "Grandad" is that there's been no mention in the series of Chili's mother outside of references in "Onesies" and a family photo, which may imply that she's already passed away. If that's true, it would make Chili's concerns for her dad even stronger because he's her only surviving parent which makes her value her time with him that much more.

I agree; losing my mom from an early age made me feel the same about my dad, but the feelings are slightly subdued, because i know that my dad takes care of himself; and it's my stepmom im more worried about. it is different from chilli and her dad's relationship, but the feeling are the same. My eldest child was delayed developmentally due to autism/adhd and I remember feeling like it was my fault (we didn’t know at the time). That’s because of me not being good enough she wasn’t doing things she should be. Didn’t help my best friend and I were pregnant at the same time and our kids were 2 months apart. Her son did everything on schedule and my daughter took her time. I saw Baby Race with her when she was 2 and I cried for an hour. But now I let her come to things on her own terms and she excels. She just needed room to feel ready.

That single phrase opened up a ton of thoughts and memories I was not ready for. I was abandoned a few days after being born. A few hours after being left at a bus station, someone found me and took me to an adoption center. At 10 months old, I was adopted by my current loving family and brought over to the US of A. Now I’m an American citizen and I don’t remember much of any of this. This phrase not only opened up these deep wounds, but also let me prices the fact I was likely abandoned due to my biological parents probably couldn’t afford all of the things to care for me or might not have had enough to eat themselves and knew I wouldn’t live long with them, giving me up so I would have a chance to live longer than a few weeks. This episode has helped me process this and find some closure to this traumatizing 1st year of my life and give me a new look at life.

Bluey is such an amazing show. As soon as the granddad said: "No, it was yesterday." and as Chili became a kid again, I already wanted to cry.

As someone with both ADHD and autism, Jack feels more the former rather than the latter. It's the poor memory thing that really signals to me that it's ADHD. Autism doesn't really affect memory, but ADHD is known to impact executive functioning. Of course, it is possible Jack has both, but aside from appearing to have a special interest/hyperfixation on astronomy in the episode "Space" (space is a very common special interest/hyperfixation among neurodivergent kids, including myself), there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of evidence towards him having autism. Maybe in future episodes they might make it a bit more clear, but as of now it just looks like ADHD.

Hey I really appreicate you commenting this, its nice to hear a perspective on your take on Jack. I know that autism can affect memory in some way for certain individuals, however its possible we might be referring to two different types of memory conditions displayed. Do you feel like Jack doesn't demonstrate the memory condition seen in people with autism but instead its purely based off of his potential ADHD that makes him forget about certain things such as his hat? Just curious on your input since it seems we both have some knowledge on the topic so It would be interesting to discuss further. I know for me when thinking about his memory issues i was considering episodic memories (seen in people with autism) which relate to places and events so when I saw him have concerns about remembering the naming schemes with the army lingo for places rusty was pointing to I was thinking it was related to that Also I would love more Jack episodes, he’s my favorite side character haha 🤎

I wasn’t that great in school. Yes I can recited the lion king 1 and 2 But I couldn’t remember my school assignments or how to properly take notes in school for me anything could be used on a test. Plus my mom would ask me why I couldn’t apply my trivial memory to my school work.

I agree- Jack is definitely ADHD, maybe autism too. I am trying to get an ADHD and I connect so so much to him! And younger me was so much like jack-then I hid it and overcompensated because I never found that place I truly belonged or family who really accepted it. Even though my mum has suspected it since I was about 5, just never got me diagnosed because I am “smart and well behaved”, then just made fun of me and criticised adhd traits like lacking volume control, yelling all the time, rambling, talking fast, forgetting everything, lack of time management. My dad is where I get it from and thinks it’s “normal” 😂😂 like dad come on you also can not sit still and do nothing, interrupt YOURSELF and go on tangents constantly and we have had 4 hour convos about the existence of god, geek mythology and space or whatever we both hyperfixation on because I also copy his to connect with him. Which is where my love of history comes from lol The “there’s something wrong with me” hit So so hard! But also Army hit so hard as an armed forces kid too- I was basically a mess the entire episode!

@@Meg_intheclouds I’ve heard that ADHD is different between boys and girls. Autism is hard to identify in girls then it is in boys. While it’s great that this show is showing what ADHD/autism from a child prospective they should also show how it’s portrayed between boys and girls.

The tail wagging with Jack could also be 'stimming', which as someone who has autism and adhd, is important. I do everything from fidget with my fingers, twitch my feet, swing my legs. I have no idea why it helps,but it just makes it easier for me to calm down and release energy without overexerting myself.

Some examples of this are bouncing, humming or a sound similar to laughing being taken for someone being happy, or pacing, cracking knuckles, and leg bouncing as expressions of nervousness. While most ND people have emotion specific stims, they usually aren't what nt people expect.

W/ Onsies, and the establishing of Brandy's issues around having kids. I really do genuinely genuinely genuinely hope that the writers use her as a catalyst to teach kids about adoption (or even foster care). Adoption is rarely talked about in kids media- Or in any media really- (Even if it is its typically "youre not good enough" anyway) and it leads to so much bullying, and it'd be really nice to see such a spectacular childrens show touch on the subject, AND give adopted kids someone to relate too since they very often dont have other adopted kids around to be friends with (at least my school as a kid only had one adopted kid within the hundreds of us). Even with the real world struggles of adoption, Bluey being a fictional childrens show can easily gloss over the difficulty of the process, or even have Brandy talk about it in the background w/ Chilli similar to Bandit and Fido's vasectomy (or dog teeth) conversation. Somethign the kids wont really get nor care about, but adults will. The writers have just opened a door with such amazing opportunities and I genuinely really hope that they walk through it. I'd be so sad if they drop the plot thread all together, or even opt to have Brandy have her own bio child *instead* of adoption simply BECAUSE of how big the adoption opportunity is, and how needed the representation is in media.

To add to the older kid scenario, what if Bluey and Bingo help them acclimate to being adopted at last? I can just hear Bingo in my head talking to a boy trying to say they aren't family, saying "well, Mum says you're my cousin now, and that's good enough for me." Cue hug and a shot of the boy's face going from frustration to tearing up from an extremely honest 5 y.o. giving 0 fluffs they aren't biologically related. I'm not adopted, so I don't know if it would be something those that were would like seeing, but I can't help feeling like it's at least the right direction.

While the topic of adoption is good, I find it invalidating. It is one of the top "do NOT say this" things to someone who lost or can't have a child - "just adopt!" No. Big NO. I have cried and grieved and hurt endlessly when I heard this coming from others, especially people who had kids. For Brandy, like for millions of other women, "just adopting" is just not an option. Financially, emotionally, or otherwise. Some women don't get their rainbow, and I think it's important to highlight that Brandy found comfort in connecting with her nieces even after years of bringing herself up to it. But let's face it, she most likely sobbed all the way back home to wherever she came from and then some more after the visit.

An episode (I don't think you mentioned) that I really hold in high regard is Flat Pack. How it takes something simple as playing with cardboard and Styrofoam and add two deep layers to it, growing up/passing away and evolution. It has one of the best endings in the entire series with Bluey playing as in her twilight years and peacefully passes over into the afterlife with Bandit saying "This is Heaven"

As someone with ADHD, the episode 'Army' and Jack himself surprised me. Mainly because you rarely see neurodivergent characters (especially ones with ADHD) in these shows. I found myself heavily relating to Jack, having been told the same "sit still" and "pay attention" stuff and thinking something was wrong with me and that I was the only one experiencing those things. This is why I love Bluey as a show as well as the creators for their fantastic execution of many different topics that any normal kids' show wouldn't dare speak of!

The hardest thing about the episode Army is that Jack thinks he can't do what he is told because he is expected to do impossible tasks for seemingly no reason. I am speaking from the perspective of an autistic teen, and let me tell you, the opening scene where Jack gets told off for not sitting still makes me so upset. There is no reason he NEEDS to sit still. No reason in the slightest. It is just a standard that society decided is necessary for no reason, so when a neurodivergant person can't do it, they are told off. It breaks my heart to see Jack feel like he can't do what he is told because of some stupid standards the world has decided for people. He can do what he is told, we see it throughout the episode. What he is unable to do is be neurotypical. Rant aside, that episode was great.

Motion naturally draws the human eye which is generally why sitting still is preferred in most settings. So as not to distract. It isn’t some ableist rule by design purposely putting autistics in their place or whatever. It’s I think a primal instinct in case of danger. If there’s a lot of motion though, it’s easier to focus (generally) as there isn’t just one thing pulling attention. It’s a bed of nails. So the solution, before you come for me, is probably more similar motion not forcing an autistic to sit still.

As a kid who grew up with undiagnosed ADHD in the 90s, later diagnosed in the early 00s, the episode with Jack really struck a chord for me, especially when he says there’s something wrong with him. I grew up believing that there was something wrong with me because I struggled with impulse control, motivation and social skills due to my ADHD. I carried this into adulthood and have been unlearning a lot of that kind of thinking in therapy for the past few years. When I heard Jack say he wasn’t very good at most things because there was something wrong with him, I felt like I was seeing and hearing myself at that age. Kids can perceive if adults view them as “different”, especially when the word “different” becomes interchangeable with “difficult”. I felt that my whole childhood, beating myself up for not being a better daughter, friend and student. I’m now growing out of that thinking, but it’s taken a long time to do so.

In Army, when Jack was doing quite well in the Army game, it is an instance of something called hyperfixating. Many people with ADHD occasionally have hyperfixation. Hyperfixation is where someone with ADHD (or sometimes people with no disorders) will focus to an extreme extent on something and often times do the extreme opposite of any ADHD symptoms since. This is very apparent in his behavior when playing with rusty. :)

So here’s something that you may have missed; the song “Bringer of Joy” is actually played during the moment when bingo is in front of the sun/Chili, not when she’s in front of Jupiter/Bandit. The name of the song is “Jupiter: Bringer of Joy” and was written by Gustav Holst for a suite known as “The Planets” which also features Mars, Venus, Mercury, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, each with their own orchestral songs and epithets. The most famous of which is “Bringer of Joy” due to the warmth and memorability of the piece. The arrangement that appears in “Sleepytime” leans in particularly on the warmth, which is fitting, since in this instance it’s representing the sun, which is warm, and Chili, who is cuddling Bingo, physically warming her. It’s not an original composition made for Bluey, but it’s used to such great effect. As if it didn’t make me cry independently of this show ;_;

The two moments that get me emotionally are the very end of Sleepytime, when the sun rises, and the music swells, and the end of Barky Boats, when Bluey tells the fairies to look after her buddy Mia in "Big School". So sweet. 💙

Grandad hit me hard with the line "i still need him" because I'm 30 and still live with my mom and not many people understand how I still need her but in a different way being an adult. My mom is going through the same thing now because my grandpa is on dialysis and is showing the beginning signs of dementia.

The frustration and hurt of my brain not being able to pay attention is so outweighed by the feelings of pride and joy when I can actually pay attention that it makes a boring task pleasant, so I really feel Jack's sentiments towards sentry duty. When I remember things I do feel like telling the whole world about it, so personally I think Jack getting his own little explanation bit is just the perfect embodiment of that pride and excitement.

My own sister has struggles with fertility and I could tell how hard it was for her after I had my daughter. But she's the best aunt on earth and I couldn't do this without her. The second my husband and I found out our daughter was deaf my sister was the first person to enroll in an ASL class so she could communicate with her! So blessed!

2 details from army I noticed: 1: Jack is able to do some tasks well, but only the ones which he is given a direct reason for (or it is implied he was given a reason for) and rusty seems happy to explain why he needs to do certain things, so that allows him to do these tasks, wanting or needing to know why a task needs done is a lesser talked about trait of autism. 2: Rusty asks if there was something *wrong* with his old school. the viewer would expect this language to be mirrored and hear "there's something *wrong* with me". the fact that he responds with "there's something *going on* with me" is really moving to me. he *knows* he's different and even if he struggles with his self esteem(same, buddy), he knows it's okay to be different and he just needs accommodations. i have both adhd and autism and every time i watch jack's episodes i notice something new and i love it.

Jack hit really hard for me as someone with ADHD, everything Jack portrays in this episode, from not being able to sit still to literally not knowing why he can't do as he's told, is exactly like my experience as a young kid before my diagnosis and medication. The end was emotional too, of course, but Jack more than Rusty stuck with me because I saw myself.

I mentioned this in your previous video but I'll say it again here because why not? I'm an Australian Dad and there was a Theatrical Play for Bluey that I was able to take my daughter to see. It was its own story but it heavily referenced scenes from Season 1 of Bluey throughout. The main story was about Blue and Bingo getting into a fight and refusing to play together. Chilli is trying to rectify the situation and when the kids ask why would it be so made not to make up she brings up Brandi. We don't get the much, but we do know they had a fight over something and have been estranged ever since. By the end of the play we get one final scene with Chilli on the phone calling Brandi. She awkwardly greets her and that's where the play ends. It absolutely killed me when I saw this episode not long after and realized the fight was most likely about Brandi being uncomfortable around Chilli's children. Also, mad respect for bringing Brandi into the series after the play!

Concerning Onesies. I don't know if this was completely intentional or just a coincidence, but heelers, or cattle dogs, are a breed of dogs that have multiple reports of fertility issues. It's neat to see characteristics of certain breeds parallel real life. As someone who struggles with infertility and will likely never be able to have a child, this episode resonated with me the most.

Every episode that was talked about in this is so good, and you explained the reasons why each one was placed in their respective spots very nicely. The description of Army, along with Jack and Rusty as characters, dynamic, and storylines was great and highlighted real life experiences of the audiences watching. Living with neurological difficulties and or diffrences of any kind isn't easy, especially from a young age. Getting to see that be shown in a realistic, respectful and wonderful way in a show like Bluey resonated with me so much, and is one of the reasons why it's one of my favorite episodes. I could go on and on all day about why I agree with the points you made about each episode, but I'll say that out of all the episodes in the show those alone tackle certain topics, some more heavy than others beautifully and you captured them so well!!

As a parent, I find Baby Race very impactful and important for the adults watching with the kids. There are so many manicured pictures of parenting out there these days that it's easy to wind up feeling you're doing something wrong because of them. A Baby Race with the whole rest of the world so to speak. Having somebody sit you down, especially another more experienced parent, and tell you you're doing well can take a huge weight off your shoulders.

Hi! I can't tell if you put this in honorable mentions but for me the most emotional episodes are "Flat Pack" and "Copycat". Both tackled the most unwanted yet inevitable event in everyone's lives; Death. In "Copycat" it is directly shown. Never in my life I have heard in a show for pre-schoolers the line "Sorry, we did all we can but he 'died'". This somehow traumatizing. When I was a child I couldn't process that my grandmother died. It took me years till I let the pain of loss get to me so that I could move on. No, everyday I imagined that she was there inside her room where I wasn't allowed to go in. I do not let the memories I had with to sink in so that I wouldn't feel the pain. But I had to. I know there will be one day that I will enter that room finding that she was not there and it did eventually after 2 years. I wept as remember the day she died. I was there when she finally gave up her life. But after I cried my mind finally cleared up. I accepted that she is gone and the situation is out of my hand. The same thing happened to Bluey. But unlike me, she recreated the event the next day. After she saw everything again, she accepted it. She even quoted that it is out of her hands. Next is Flat Pack. The episode showed us a parent and child moments being analogized to the theory of evolution by Charles Darwin. Each specie represent an age group from baby (tadpole) to an adult (alien). I am not parent but watching your child ready to live his or her own life which means to leave his or her parents is so sad. You're happy that your child has grown into a wonderful adult but it hurts so much to see that you are not by his or her side anymore. The question asked by Bluey at the end "What should I do now?" The music starts and Bluey saw her parents at the swing. Bluey climbs up her house and reaches her parents hand. This made me cry. This the embodiment of a happy death after seeing your child grow. Where she watches over her from heaven (I am not going to bring up religion so bear with me when I say...) with your heavenly (parents?). This episode actually became a turning point fir me for my opinion that I don't want to have a family. That it is not my happiness. I thought money is the only source of happiness. But when I saw how contented Bluey was as she ascends to heaven (her house) with her parents, I concluded that being a parent is the most happiest thing a person will ever experience in his or her life. So those two are the episodes that moved me. Thanks for reading! I love your videos, really.

If it were me I definitely would have placed baby race on this list and probably pretty high too. It makes me cry every single time. I’m not even a mother, but I can still understand a lot of what chilli is feeling in this episode. The feeling that you or something your doing isn’t progressing like everyone else. The fear of lagging behind or doing it differently. The dread of wondering if your just doing everything wrong. And the need for someone to tell you “your doing great.” The episode and it’s message doesn’t have to be limited for mothers. I think it can apply to anyone that’s trying to strive for something. And this episode is absolutely amazing for showing them that it doesn’t matter how they’re progressing in that something, as long as they’re progressing at all.

I'd hope that they let Brandi adopt, and show a family made up of a mother and adopted kid being just as valid as a family with biological children. Maybe have some of the kids question why Brandi's kid doesn't look much like Brandi or something, and explain to the kids - in the show and those who are watching - that sometimes, not every member of a family looks very much alike, and sometimes they came from different places, and that's okay.

The planet episode makes me cry every time. I’m a mom and I love my son so much, and to think he could see me as his sun makes me so happy. I know he loves me but I’m always anxious about doing the right thing and being a good mom. I love him so much and something about him possibly loving me and seeing me as his sun makes me so happy and ugly cry. I can’t even explain it. It’s like feeling love in it’s truest form. Great video. If I may share a story. I never realized I had separation anxiety as a child until seeing the episode with Mackenzie. I realized I behaved like him at that age. I brought it up with my mother and she reminded me of an instance that happened and that she was told by my aunt who's a psychiatrist that I had these same symptoms. I had completely forgotten and it all came back. This episode helped me process and heal in a way I never knew I needed. In a quick side note. My mother is very ill and I'm worried I may lose her very soon. Every time Sleepytime is referenced I get choked up, and now all I have to do is hear the score I start the waterworks. Bluey is nothing short of amazing. I hope your video continues to help others discover and fall in love with the show. It helps people. Thank you.

My all time favorite episode is definitely Rain. It was the first episode I ever watched, so it has a special spot for that reason, but I also really relate to it and it brings me so much joy. Watching Chilli go from being mad about the mess, to eventually joining in to help Bluey just really resonates with me. Im autistic, and connecting with others can be really difficult for me; including with my own family. The best memories are of my parents no longer questioning what I was trying to do, and instead connecting with me and helping/encouraging me. It’s such a validating experience, and Rain just helps me relive those kinds of moments :,)

I love your take on Space! I was a bit surprised you didn't say a bit more about how Calypso helps, beyond gently reminding him to be in the present. When a patient is stuck on a traumatic moment, a common therapeutic tactic is to encourage them to remember how the rest of the event played out after that moment, ideally to a point where things got better. She literally reminds him that his mother came back, and was just out of sight. It also shows that she's likely talked to Mackenzie's parents about this event, since he's blocked it out, but she's very aware of what he's stuck on, and what happened after.

Sleepytime is my favorite episode as well and it hits so hard for me. My mom and my parents have always been the most important people in my life and I just share and feel the emotions of the episode. I don’t know if you knew this granted it was not said in the video but the reoccurring song throughout the episode is titled “Jupiter” written and composed by Gustav Holst which is a remarkable piece of music but also goes back to the idea of Bingo seeing her Dad as Jupiter and the music comes to a big note at the end when Bingo is on Mercury showcasing the strong bond she has with her mom but with that her dad as well just differently and he is more in the background of her life rather than the foreground.

Same but now I'm not chronically lonely I'm just very very startled by physical affection. I hate when people hug me, especially my family. It's so uncomfortable, overwhelming and constricting. The only person I've come to grow comfortable with hugs and physical affection is my boyfriend. I don't know why everyone else's physical affection frightens me. My boyfriend is also the only person that I believe really knows me well and that I trust. I think it's a combination of not feeling like I can't trust my family from a young age and being afraid of physical touch because it's so alien to me. Actually scratch the "I don't know why it scares me" part. Now that I think about it, I think I'm afraid of that kind of emotional closeness with my family. Maybe youre afraid of the emotional closeness of hugging too? Or maybe not having that makes you feel extra lonely?

I love Jacks character as it represents how people with undiagnosed ADHD and/or Autism and how they subconsciously mask when it’s pointed out but also when you unmask near people that you trust. I would be so worried about my moms leaving me i would be strife with tears in my eyes. And thats how a preschool show made me cry!

As someone who has ADHD and 2E, the fact jack can’t remember basic things like his hat but remembers everything about the army actually makes sense. He has fun playing army and he cares a lot about it but doesn’t care much about other things like remembering his hat. Me personally, if I don’t care about something, I won’t remember it. If I care about something, I remember every little detail. I’m not sure if this is true for others with ADHD, but it is for me.

I had to pause after the evaluation of Grandad, I started sobbing 2 years ago I lost my grandad because he was an alcoholic and smoked, and it was heart wrenching. My grades dropped, I developed depression symptoms (however I was never diagnosed with depression or anything) and my anxiety increased ten-fold. Those clips hit me so hard man

I was labeled with ADD when I was young. Although I've always Exceled at anything that had to do with art and history. Even creative writing I was interested in, just not math. Because of this, I was put in "special" classes. Which made me an embarrassment to my peers, and I was seen as someone who was dumb so nobody wanted to hang out with me. Retaining and keeping friends was hard as when I was 13y father passed away from cancer, this was never communicated to my friends at the time, though I grew to resent them for not knowing information about my personal life at the time. I am doing well for myself as eventually I got therapy, and grew up with good finances. I still struggle to want friends as it's harder now since everyone has kids and other responsibilities.

I really appreciate you sharing a little bit of your history with me, I also have went to special classes but instead for a speech impediment that I had when growing up. There is still times I experience it but I try my best to edit them out, but I did experience a similar isolation of my peers do to this so hearing your story really resonated with me on a personal level. Man SleepyTime hits hard as i look back on the times in my life when I was adamant about doing things alone and my mom was always there for me even if I couldn't see her. I remember thinking that I would never be able to live alone because I always needed someone there and now looking back, I'm glad that I was able to have my mom be the one to help me grow. She really is the sun, even if shes now 9 hours away in another state.

Really small irrelevant thing I love in Sleepy Time, in her dream, when Bingo flies past Bluey's hatched Venus and shows her empty bed, it cuts to Bluey, doing that thing kids do where they stand in front of their parents bed and stare at their parent, waiting for them to just wake up and startles Chili. I'm not sure why kid's do this, and even I did it as well. It really is just one of those small details that maintain that real and down to Earth feeling of domestic life. Plus it's just a really funny scene in my opinion.
