I think Bandit gets more attention because at least American dads have a huge issue with being basically everything he isn't. @@jadecoolness101 There is an odd pressure on men to avoid showing emotion, and to only provide for the family monetarily. This is not to defend men who genuenly abandon their children just because they don't care. But it's been constantly showed down their face that they are meant to present themselves as emotionless machines. Sometimes it's not because they chose to, but because they are so used to not being able to be emotionally present they don't know how. I come from a more "traditional" part of the world which is not as progressive, especially with gender role stereotypes forced upon people around me and even on me. I've seen male stereotypes pushed on my brother since young age. "Don't cry", "Why do you like this?? It's not manly", "Stop acting like a -" You get the idea. Bad parents raise bad parents. And some of these bad parents don't even realize they're being bad parents. I wouldn't say it's only their OWN fault. The only thing I'd really blame them for is perhaps parenting unprepared. But even then, no ammount of training can prepare you for the 18 years (minimum) of the real deal.

The thing with those statements is. Abusive individuals already don't like to acknowledge they are abusive. And even if they do they seem to internalize this image of abusers as being one dimensional Disney villains that just enjoy being mean, cruel, selfish, etc. Irredeemable. Evil. Nobody likes them. Entirely unsympathetic. No real motivation or true concern for anyone else but themselves. Etc etc. No redemption. No room to grow. No sympathy. And no forgiveness. (Hence, as a neurodivergent queer scapegoat from a very dysfunctional mostly Latine family, why I think it's important to recognize Encanto does have a villain, and she is an abusive mother/grandmother that specifically treats her neurodivergent/disabled lineage as a big burden and blemish on the family best to avoid, keep out of sight, and hope to prevent others like them in the future. And the ending indicates a honeymoon phase unless there's prolonged efforts to alter how she thinks, talks and behaves. Her trauma isn't an excuse. It merely gives context and makes it more human and realistic. And you can try to reason any connect with a villain/abuser, even ambiguously redeem them. Darth Vader did it. He's still a villain, even if you understand why and can sympathize with him and even if he eventually changes course. Star wars still has a damn villain sorry that common take really annoys me) They say they can't be abusive if they aren't the worst parent ever. If they don't do these cartoonishly evil things. If they have "good intentions but simply made mistakes" (which i thought was bad when it was used in relation to my broken collar bone, but i later on saw it used for both CSA and filicide). And if they aren't really abusive then there's no real need to change anything fundamental or the way they even think about family dynamics let alone hierarchy. Just tweak the details so maybe it doesn't end up going "so far" next time. But you cannot truly acknowledge the scope of damage to the victim or to center their needs without it being "demonizing the parent" and "taking away their rights" or "telling them how they have to parent". Without it being some vague outsiders using "out of touch definitions to police families using a moral panic". Or at least trying to turn children against their families, culture, religion, etc. And it strengthens the culture of those who blatantly promote child abuse, neglect, and otherwise complain about acting having to do with modern safety and developmental improvements because "i turned out just fine without all that coddling". And it absolutely encourages people to refuse to ever see anything in themselves, their families/parents, or their culture that could at all be considered abusive or harmful. So it doesn't matter what lines they cross. There's always a reason why it's different vs all those other legitimately bad people who end up in the news (or who actually deserve to be,from the perspective of those who do get into the news). And in the end the rhetoric only ends up putting more children at risk of more abuse mostly for culture wars and untreated generational trauma purposes Then abuse victims are pushed to avoid using the term, to acknowledge the trauma they have, and consequently are shamed for avoiding their "difficult parents that care so much and tried their best even if they aren't always perfect". Because absolutely nobody wants to acknowledge what abuse really is, how common it is, and how close it really is to a lot of popular parenting norms. (like anything from authoritarian, helicoptering, or even passive parenting can easily slide into territories of abuse, neglect, or behaviors that otherwise sabotage children attempting to launch into adulthood/gain healthy independence especially if you aren't very mindful of what lines exist and for what developmental stages) Because the stigma is so strong that most parents get right on the defensive and offensive and even lash out at their kids in private the second you start to talk about the issue of child abuse in a serious and informative way that tries to prevent further harm. every single parent that sees aspects of their behaviors in that of what is abusive or otherwise harmful. Because how DARE anyone judge their parenting when they're just trying their best and mean super well etc "unlike all these modern day ultra woke parents that refuse to teach kids how to behave and have proper respect for authority and old school discipline who ironically go around judging everyone whose parenting style isn't just like theirs" etc etc. And whole cultures of estranged parents whining about how they're being treated like complete monsters when they just tried their best and maybe even sacrificed and did too much to try to be the make perfect parent ever only for it to never be good enough. It's often easy to see heavy layers of narcissism and hints of dysfunctional family dynamics (eg a "best friends" dynamic. "they saved my life after i lost my partner and then suddenly declared it was toxic and cut me off out of nowhere, probably because of their new partner being jealous of our close relationship and telling them it's more unhealthy than it really is just to hurt me". Or even references to being an ultra involved helicopter/mower parent that feels betrayed when the "ungrateful adult child refuses to acknowledge all I've done making their life so easy only to blame me for their failures in adulthood and cut off contact for no real reason other than their Inability to take responsibility". All strong indications of truly unhealthy or even abusive dynamics. And also intense ignorance as to how unhealthy, dysfunctional, or abusive those dynamics are especially for the long term development of their children. Cause like it or not. Most abusive parents are overwhelmed. Are struggling. Don't have good examples to look back on. And don't see themselves as abusive and never will. Especially as they mostly all do try their best. (yes even alcoholics and those with other mental illnesses have their own struggles that make their best frequently not be good enough, especially without a solid enough auxiliary support network)

I tell myself often that my mother isn’t a bad person but she is a bad mom. To me she’s a sad & hurt woman who is generally speaking a good person, but she is a bad wife & mother & as her child I secretly do not claim her. I can’t because it will only hurt me & really wouldn’t do much good for her either as it’s a job that is too much for her to handle. My therapist and I were talking about this regarding my mom (who I still have a good relationship with) and how the idea of being a 'good' parent is so unclear. We talk a lot more about what's effective/functional. What lessons do you teach your kids? What is your goal for your children, and are you achieving that? Abuse is a category of verbs, and that has a broad definition based mostly on actions that people take. It's totally possible for a dysfunctional parent to hear what they're doing and improve. I think people should be defined by their verbs, not an adjective as subjective as good or bad. My mom wasn't always good at her job, but she was always willing to listen to other people about what would make her better at it. Sometimes, she just made mistakes about whose advice she took. I think if your parents are unhealthy for you, its okay to cut them out of your life. I think that it's easier for us to avoid our parents' mistakes if we identify their harmful actions rather than assign unclear terms of subjective morality to who they are as people.

Baby race mentally wrecked my spouse and I. Our kid is less vocally or emotionally developed compared to the kids in our friend group so we were constantly comparing. We even did the whole checking with doctors thing and our kid is just on the lower curve of that, but nothing bad. After we watched Baby Race we realized that constant comparisons are not health and it even helped us realize the things our kid was excelling at... like our kid is pure muscle and body to the point where at 2 years old they took an 8 foot tall metal ladder to a different room when we weren't looking, climbed it, and grabbed a toy off a top shelf, and climbed down... it is honestly terrifying and we have been putting locks and baby proofing on a lot more stuff now.

Your kid is still cooking, and every kid is a little it different. They reach certain mile stones at different times, but just because some reach that finish line a little later doesn't mean they're not still in the race! Same here. My little one is almost two and probably has a vocabulary of max. 10 words, but understands when I speak to him in English AND French and has an enviable talent for music. He does actual chords on the piano, sings along in tune and can transform absolutely anything into a set of drums with different pitches and everything. I'm a new mum and I have CPTSD from childhood neglect and abuse. One of the things people with childhood neglect can develop is an addiction to productivity. My husband is exactly like Bandit and he constantly has to help me turn off 'work mode' where I feel that I'm failing my son because the house isn't spotless 24/7. I'll forget a mug on the counter for three days or I struggle to do the laundry, often forgetting it on the sofa for far too long and think I'm just like my parents and end up going down a depressed spiral. But Bluey has been helping me maintain a simpler outlook on life and understand that ONE DIRTY MUG doesn't mean I'm an abusive parent.

Honestly, sometimes we focus so much on managing all the complexities and details of our lives, we forget that it's okay to slow down and recognize that we are enough. Disordered circumstances such as CPTSD make it especially easy to overlook your own value in the presence of both external and internal stressors. That's why it's so important to recognize when it's okay to take a step outside of your own headspace and breathe. There is no such thing as a perfect parent, but there is such thing as a good one. And I noticed on my 2nd re-watching that the horse Chili rides flys away after she thanks her for everything. I think the horse is suppose to represent Chili's mom who has passed away. Although a bit off-topic, I think it is also interesting how Greeny can be seen as an analogue to both Bluey and Bingo, combining traits of the two later shown in "Movies", where Bluey is revealed to be different to other children in that she is scared of watching movies and possibly other things, being "a bit of a sensitive kid", how Bandit puts it, and Bingo is shown to be into exploring. Probably no coincidence either. Possibly making the couch bit in "Mum School" another instance of Bluey coping with her problems through play. With her calling herself "cushion head" at the end possibly alluding to that also, though perhaps that is only about her feeling inadequate at that moment, without hinting at a deeper relation of her to that situation. And also Bluey thinking that Greeny lashing out to the other kids in retaliation is no problem, which is a stance someone who found themselves in such situations would likely hold, I think. But I may be going a little to far with that one.

Also to add to what you were saying about Bluey in the Movies episode I wanted to bring up season one’s The Creek. Where Bingo and Mackenzie had no problem with wanting to have Bandit take them to play in the creek but Bluey kept freaking out about how different it was from the playground. And also in the season two episode Double Babysitter where Bluey is unsure of being put to bed by a babysitter because her Nana was watching something scary on TV while watching her once. There’s multiple episodes where Bluey is scared or nervous about something. The adults are usually there to guide the children and it’s refreshing to see that in children’s media when it’s mostly “just figure it out yourself”. Though calling Bluey children’s media seems insulting but it technically is. It’s just good children’s media that resonates with all.

I think that is not so much about her wanting to control people, but rather a need to feel in control and keep things within her comfort zone. Something that can also be seen in "Postman", where when the parents squabble, she takes matters in her own hands to make sure everything is the right way, her parents loving each other and not being "enemies" how she puts it.

One of my favorite parts about Bluey is how the parents feel like real people and not just "mum and dad" like most parent characters in kids tv shows dont have any dimensionality most of the time lacking names. But Bandit and chilli are real Bandit has 2 brothers and likes to tease, play touch football and is an archeologist and chilli is great at ice rugby with sticks and art she has a sister and her mom is gone like sheesh there's just so much character to them.

I like how it shows Chilli really having to /work/ on being patient. In episodes like Unicorse, we see her clearly fighting her urge to snap and even getting a bit frustrated with herself. We don’t come by calm and patience effortlessly. Also: major props on the Persona 4 tracks. Combining 2 of my great loves, Bluey and Persona :D

Finally someone speaks about the incredible character that is Chilli (who is my favorite of the show, if it wasn't already clear from this comment). We (as community) are always preying Bandit for his infinite patience and complete dedication into child plays but rarely underline the incredible parenting job of Chilli. She is a little overprotecting and exaggeratedly afraid of competition (I'm referring to episodes like The Claw or Obstacle Course), but this contributes to make her character more realistic. Plus with her needed 20 minutes in Sheepdog and his lost of patience in Sticky Gecko, she appears like a more reachable parenting model compared to Saint Bandit. I'm so glad that in season 3 Ludo gave Chilli a lot more attentions and screen time.

One of my personal favorites is Driving, where Chillie needs to try deprogramming the mindset most adults get into: that everything must have a purpose. In Driving, Bluey wants to play, well… Driving. But she finds the game unfulfilling when Chillie shows she can’t relax and enjoy spending time with her daughter because of her constant phone calls from work and her purpose filled mindset. Bluey finds a clever way around this by telling Chillie that they have to get soy milk for her doll client in her make believe cafe before the customer loses her patience and destroys the curtains. This way, Chillie has a purpose and Bluey gets her game time with her mom. It’s a clever and sweet episode that shows not only how relatable and fun Chillie is, but also how observant and intuitive Bluey is.

Chilli reminds me so much of my own mom. My 2 older siblings were a walk in the park for her calm, collected, organized demeanor. Then I came through like a hurricane haha I distinctly remember a handful of times where the exhaustion was palpable to me, even at a young age. But, she always made sure that I knew I was loved and appreciated for who I was. She fostered and encouraged my interests and hobbies and celebrated me as an individual. I would often feel lesser than my brother and sister because I was so unlike them - and her. But now, as an adult and a parent of a wiley daughter myself, my love and respect for my mom grows even deeper. What a perfect video to post on Mother's Day!💐

Mum school I always interpreted as someone who wasn't raised with gentle and understanding parents. Where spanking was common in their household like my husband and me. Showing that there is in fact, another way that works, and "we all fail mum school sometimes" and just trying again tomorrow that if you're trying to break a cycle, be kind to yourself as well. Everyone is learning, and you may fail, but tomorrow is a new day to try again.

It makes me really emotional how my mom went through the exact same thing Chilli went through in Baby race. Personally, I'm not planning to become a parent because the wounds of my childhood abuse run too deep, but Bluey is still pretty effective way to re-parent myself. Side note: Please do NOT comment anything along the lines of "You can always be a better parent than your mom to make up for it". Such statements come off as dismissive of my feelings and the thought process I went through when I made the decision not to have children 3 years ago. I trust that I'm in a community that likely won't do this, but I've encountered this so many times on YT and it hurts me every time. Sorry for the long side note.

I think that's a healthy choice. If you don't 500% believe you'd be a good parent, then don't be one. I hope you heal. Though I hope you are still kind to any child you come across. There's a difference between not wanting kids of your own (which is valid!) and hating kids just for being kids (which unfortunately is becoming more and more pervasive). Tbh, I'm neutral towards kids cuz I understand they're mirrors of their environment as much I was of mine, but I think the real villains in this world aren't those who hate kids rather those who exploit them and treat them as subhuman. So while I tolerate kids, it doesn't mean I won't fight for their human rights and for them to be treated with respect and humanity.

All the people I knew in elementary learned to read before me and it made me feel inadequate. I’ve never really seen Bluey. But knowing Chilli had a miscarriage, I feel like Bluey not ‘progressing fast enough,’ and taking her to the doctors more than usual, is a result of her miscarriage. She may assume that her miscarriage may have been a factor in ‘stunting’ Bluey’s growth in some way. Again reaching. I feel like I worded this wrong, but I’m not implying that Bluey is stunted at all. 😅

I really appreciate you making this video bc this has been on my mind since I watched a video about Bluey and this one guest speaker waxed poetic about Bandit and then just threw a oneliner like "and Chilli was just there" and it rubbed me the wrong way. Like someone else has mentioned in these comments, it's easy for a dad to be a "good dad" bc our current role models are severely lacking and I'm glad Bandit is changing that tide. But it's just as easy for moms to be overlooked, or worse be labeled as a "bad mom" bc society sets this expectation that moms should be good by default. Or at least perform physical and emotional labour for their families without question or fault. But I commented on that video that while Bandit is an amazing father that takes part in childrearing, play, and housework, he still has moments where he can be oblivious to his daughters' emotional needs and oftentimes Chilli acts as the bridge for their daughters to openly communicate to Bandit about their feelings and for Bandit to learn and grow from it (ex. "The Weekend", "Yoga Ball", "Obstacle Course", and "Chest"). It is also explicitly stated and shown that Chilli is a source of both comfort and fun for Bluey and Bingo (as seen in "Daddy Putdown", "Copycat", "Driving" and "The Beach"). It's also very telling how important Chilli is to the Heeler family and the show's core message when the episodes that stick out as emotionally profound to audiences are also Chilli-centric ("Sleepytime" and "Baby Race"). She captures the quiet strength and love that all mothers try to do but so badly need to see or be acknowledged for.

Chili had to be my favorite character when I saw the beach episode. When I realized she was an introvert I remember crying so hard because of how much I related to it. My entire life I was kinda downplayed on the idea of being an introvert, making me resent that part of myself when I was younger, but after seeing chili, a great mother, having it too. It was a sign that said “Stfu, you matter too dumbass.”

This video helped me uncover my childhood trauma. I have ADHD and I use several media to express myself and it's not uncommon for me to bring up videos or shows into therapy sessions. Your videos have taught me how children work, how healthy parenting looks like, and the balloon episode was the thing that clicked it for me. Obv, my therapist was the one who helped me guide me to the hidden answer my brain has been suppressing all this time but as stupid as it might sound, I saw myself in Greeny so much, and Bluey's "It has legs, it can walk" reminded me so much of the treatment I was given growing up as an undiagnosed kid trying their hardest to appease their mother who was in her own 'baby race'. This video was life changing for me because it's the one that just clicked. Don't know how better to express myself. Thank you for the videos.

Chilli's truly a queen Always putting her family first, as they mean the world to her and couldn't live without them... As she copes with her extensive work schedules (she sometimes probably stay for the night shift), stress, her family's antics, work-out sessions, housework... Just too much for the gal. But she follows her own list... Have a little cry, dust herself off, pick herself up and KEEP GOING. Yet, regardless for her issues and insecurities, SHE NEVER GIVES UP; she also got a huge conflict with her sister, her mother passed away and her dad got delicate for a health issue (and if you want to believe the miscarriage theory, that too)... Dealing with such quantity of saddening and stressful situations could break anyone... But she prefered for the show to GO ON. She's loving, caring, understanding, hard-working, quite perseverant, and always looking for a solution; she's the kind of person who prefers to be needed, always looking for a challenge or as she puts it "a good problem", all of these would be great reasons but what makes Chilli THE best mum on animation media is the fact she never gives up, she's not perfect... anyone is, but she's guiding her children to become not perfect (everyone fails mum school at least once), but the best they can be, always looking for their happiness, always spreading love and joy towards them As Bella kindly put it "YOU'RE DOING GREAT", you are an AMAZING mother, Chilli Heeler.

I'm not the biggest fan of Bluey but I can appreciate the fact that the girls/women (From what I've seen) have gender neutral designs like the guys. It helps makes the show feel more down to earth and less alienating since the show is displaying that gender doesn't define the characters.

Something I love about the parents in Bluey is the ages. Chilli and Bandit are suggested to be in their late 30s/early 40s due to them being 10 in the 80s. With Bluey and Bingo being 4-6/5-7, that means they had kids later in life, maybe they didn't even get married until later. I grew up being told by TV/media that you get married and have kids in your early 20s, which is fine but so is waiting!! Coco's mum, Bella, is about their age (maybe older) but has 9 kids so obviously, she started sooner. Having kids when you're younger or waiting are both fine and I just like seeing that represented.

Chili made me appreciate my own mom more... i was watching the sleepytime ep in front of her while she was on her phone and i tried so hard not to cry and hoping she doesnt understand what the ep was saying lol😭 Both of them are silly wise and often seemingly perfect but the truth is otherwise but they both try and work so hard and often reach their limits, wanting to be alone and being stressed because well kids HAHAHA! I guess thats why i love bluey it makes me think if thats what my childhood wouldve been like if it werent for circumstances, but watching it also reminds me theres still time and i get to have that chili bingo and bluey has right now and I truly just need to appreciate it

I’m not a parent myself but I love Chili as a caring mom! I have my mom being the best she can and she really does her best by looking after us, feeding us, and so much more. Both fathers and mothers do there dang best when taking care of their little ones. I’m so glad to have a caring family. And Chili and Bandit is no different. Both show so much care and love by being engaged in their kid’s games and teaching valuable lessons for not only their kids but for adults and maybe even kids alike! I feel like something that people miss about Bandit is that he is very most likely the way he is now BECAUSE he has such a good, loving wife like Chilli to help him out. Bandit is not "the best dad" and Chilli is not "the best mom", they are THE BEST PARENT COUPLE, PERIOD. I always love it when there is a little scene of Bandit and Chilli showing how much they love and care for each other, like in that Relax episode when Bandit gave her a hug when she confessed she didn't know how to relax. They aren't just the best parents to their kids, they're the best partners for each other and it's a crime to talk about one without mentioning the other.

The thing about Chili that makes me so emotional is that she's the ONLY mom character in media I've seen so far who actually has fun with her children. It is so bittersweet - an alternative universe where mothers are free from the burden of motherhood and neglectful partners to be able to actually enjoy regular fun time with children, without being the "always strict, responsible" bad cop type of parent, or... you know, dead. How many variety of father-figure characters do we have in media whom we praise and stan, versus mom characters? They're either dead, not at focus, shallow or, in recent trends, "obsessed with being too perfect"

I love my mum and i know she loves me. But she can blow up very easily. Even today, when i visit them, it's a special day if they don't scream at each other. I always was screamed at qhen i broke something or held her up. The chili scene with the gecko/park made me anxious, sad and then feeling warm. I think i need to watch bluey

I wish I had a mother like Chilli. I never had and never will have a mother who truly loves me as her own. The closest I got was a foster mom, but she was a complete Finn and I had grown up with Italian/Argentine culture, and I was so old (12-14), so it was so hard for her. My biological mother always neglected me... I'm sure she tried at one point, but just one. For so long she abused me and did terrible things to me. I struggled with recovering, even three years later. She is still trying to hurt me, but I won't let her. I can see some of the effects that this motherlessness has had on my psychology. I cling onto women older than me, especially mothers, and struggle with being gentle. I've become very masculine because of this. "Boys are nicer than girls" I envy these cartoon dogs and am so glad to know that several children out there have mothers like Chilli. Cherish your moms, people. There's only one of her in this world

Before seeing Bluey I always had this mother guilt that I wasn't good enough, I wasn't doing that the world expects from a mother, my kids will do something and I will lose my tempter and how that makes me feel even worse. But Chili showed these feelings are normal. The Sticky Gecko episode was SOOOO real to me. Trying to get 3 children of different age ranges ready to simply go to the supermarket is like trying to plan and climb Mount Everest without any expertise. But even when she gets fed up and annoyed, she gets through it. And I felt validated, that having these feelings is ok and normal. So thank you, Chili, for showing us that we are valid.

This is why I love Bluey because of the writing and art style. I'm autistic and feel the scene where Bluey hugs Greeny so bad bro. My mom always discouraged my autistic traits because they embarrassed her, and so I went through life feeling bad about my differences. Our differences in communication also put a rift between us early on, and I felt like she hated me. Thankfully we're on much better terms now, and she makes an effort to understand me and vice versa. I'm gonna ask myself what Chilli would do on a regular basis from now on.

I was raised by just my mom we didn’t have a lot being supported by just one income but I felt she did the best she could for both me and my sister. I really love Chili because she in her own way reminded me of the sacrifices my mom made for me. Sleepytime was the nail hitter especially at the end when she said I will always be with you even if you can’t see me because I love you. I currently live 2000 miles from my mom.I was in tears because she would say the same thing.

"You're doing great" also helps dads like me as well. Baby Race is my favorite Bluey episode because it strikes a cord with me more than any other. I've felt like I've let my daughter down time and time again by not being able to be in her life 24/7 (I'm divorced) and it's eaten at me for five years. However, now I know that she's turned out okay and and she loves me even though I've had my weak times where I yelled at her (like when she opened my taco this last weekend) and I've hurt her (I've dropped her on the carpet when she was a baby). People ask me to act a different way around children. It's hard to change and keep my cool as well as Chilli does.

I don't like Baby Race for 1 simple reason. It breaks previously established canon. What do I mean about this? The children having to learn to crawl, then crawling on hands and knees. They also make Baby noises. It's clearly shown in several earlier episodes where we get to see socks, mostly in season 1, that Socks runs around on all 4s, and barking like a real world dog would. And as time passes, and we get to later seasons, she slowly transitions to learn speak and walk on 2 legs. While I do get that in the context of the story it's trying to tell, is an absolutely brilliant episode, it still conflicts with the story we've already been told watching Socks development.

Chili reminds me so much of my Mom, she is so caring and patient and she let me grow up on my own but was right next to me to guide me through the walks of life. My Mom wasn't the one who played games with me but she was the best story teller and I loved her stories about when she was little. And the episode Sleepytime aired I cried when sun-Chili told Bingo, "I'll always be here for you, even if you can't see me, because I love you." She used to tell me, "There will be times where I can't be there for you, but ALWAYS remember I'm always on your side and know no matter what you become later in life. Momma will ALWAYS love you."
