After seeing Nathan's appearance on Adam Conover's podcast Factually, I felt compelled to read his book. I finished it about a month ago, and it truly surpassed my expectations. He weaves the life stories of numerous people involved in a single tragic event, providing cultural and historical context to who the characters are, what their life is like, and how apartheid impacts them. Maps are interspersed in the pages that help visualize the distances and proximity involved. The story itself is one that is so deeply human and transcends every difference we have with people we see as others. I don't think the book is without flaw, but I see that is purely a factor of the amount Nathan has to grow as a writer. In terms of the subject and overall presentation, it is worth the read.

The Nazis also had their 'Madagascar Plan' which had the goal of creating a Jewish ethnostate in Madagascar at its heart. They wished to create somewhere for the Jewish people to go to push them out of Europe. They had originally considered Palestine but that was considered tricky as it was under British control at the time.
