The NTSB has determined the probable cause of this accident to be: One: The bird's reckless indifference to GPWS warnings and Two: The bird's relative inexperience in flight.

I know this is like three years old but if you watch the BBC documentary on these birds, they actually aren't injured too much on the way down. This is due to their sturdy and pretty strong bone structure (for their size) they can take a beating or two. In addition because they are so small [and have a large surface area relative to their size] they reach their terminal velocity faster than other heavier birds and animals. This means they stop accelerating once they hit their terminal velocity which is slower than other heavier birds. As a result of this they don't hit the ground as fast/hard as other heavier animals *Please keep in mind that's not to say that some don't die on the way down,* but it's mostly caused by the lack of food or predation when they get to the bottom and not necessarily the fall itself (again some still die but yea). Anyways I don't think our beloved airplane birdo died so its all good. Regardless the landing might be a hard one but be rest assured that these little birds are a-ok. [ For the most part :) ]

On July 5th, 2018, Bird flight 280 took off from its nest at 7:48am. The flight was from New York City to Beijing. At around 11:24am, the pilots received a warning that the autopilot has been disengaged. At this time, the pilot was in the bathroom and the first officer, with only 19 hours of flight time, was left alone in the cockpit. 49 seconds after the first warning, the first officer received a warning that the left and right wings have failed due to a flock of engines striking the wings. The pilot returned 2 seconds before the engine strike. 6 seconds after the strike, the cockpit receives a stall warning along a multitude of other warnings. The plane goes into a 164 degree nosedive down, causing an overspeed, bank angle, and pull up warning to activate. It would be at 11:27am that the plane was about 5 thousand feet in the air. At around 1 thousand feet, a terrian warning was activated, alerting the pilots that terrian was close. At 500 feet, the terrian was visible and causing a "too low, terrian" warning to be activated. The plane crashed at 11:28am, taking the lives of all passengers and crew members on board. About 142 people died on that plane. Family members of the people on the plane will receive recovered items from their family member that was on the flight. It is possible further clearence will be disclosed to them but they will not be allowed to disclose their information. The cockpit black box has been recovered but due to its tragic and psychological harmful content, it has been classified and will not be released to the public. Those who died on Bird Flight 280 will not be forgotten.

After thorough examination of the video material from this particular accident, I have concluded: - Airframe had no sufficient boost in the take off. Runway was too short, necessitating a use of catapult, which was not used. - As a result, wings were stalled throughout the entire flight. This was further emphasized by no corrective actions (reducing angle of attack). It is also worth noting, that the propulsive system was never activated. - Following uncontrolled fall, the airframe struck ground. This was impossible to avoid due to no control authority, which could have been regained only by adding airspeed. In conclusion, I suggest adding stick shaker and pusher systems in similar types of aircraft.

Which propulsion system exactly? Cloaca II-A is known for poor reliability since they often fail to fully engage when started. Pilots using these absolutely need to be aware of their characteristics before being allowed to fly them to know what they're getting into.

@@KathrynsWorldWildfireTracking It's probably a II-B variant, tho. They're the polar opposite from the II-A, requiring low-octane fuel. One mixup with the fuel and the engine goes poof in a single shart. Which appears to have happened here, in my eyes.

This is very serious indeed. The warning system provided an incorrect annunciation. It was supposed to warn the bird-pilot of an excessive sink rate. Resultantly, birdie then applied the incorrect procedure and experienced an excessive vertical bank angle. Very naughty warning system! Don't ever confuse birdy that way again!

The voice warnings “PULL UP”, “TERRAIN”, and “BANK ANGLE” all come from the Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System, produced by Honeywell. They pretty much have a monopoly as the system is required by regulation, so you’ll hear the exact same voice on almost any large airplane.

The primary factors of this accident are as indicated: 1. Wind shear upon take off, resulting in a sudden downward motion 2. Sudden engine failure followed by a steep pull angle, resulting in a lack of lift 3. The ignorance of alarms and warnings, as indicated by the lack of action taken. Had air traffic control advised the pilot of such factors, which had occurred, the pilot would have been able to act accordingly based on the training given by the airline. Recommendations to avoid such accident: 1. Better communication between air traffic control and the pilot, to allow for info to be passed along 2. Proper training for pilots to react to wind shear and engine failure

The NTSB has determined that the probable cause of the accident involving flight B1RD was the decision of the pilot to depart in an aircraft on which they knew assembly had not yet been completed. Contributing to the accident was the failure of the pilot to appropriately respond to GPWS alerts and a lack of prior flight experience.

Imagine pranking a pilot with this, while they are sleeping 😴
@mikoto7693
@mikoto7693 2 жыл бұрын
I thought about that when I watched a 74gear video on the pranks pilots do to new flight attendants. Some of them were quite mean pranks. I mean telling the new flight attendant that their shift predecessor should have handed them a key so the pilots can start the engines and having them search the cabin for a couple of minutes is just barely acceptable before admitting it’s just a prank but actually sending that poor flight attendant back to the gate to ask for the key is just mean. Of course I would know that’s a prank due to being interested in aviation and would probably just turn around to the pilots and say. “No keys? Nah, we don’t need to find them. I’m great at hotwiring so just let me into the flight deck, give me ten minutes and I’ll have those engines started up and purring like kittens in no time.” But if in an alternate universe where I did become a flight attendant and a pilot pulled that prank and I fell for it, I would consider it absolutely fair game to get myself on a long haul flight where there are multiple pilots so they can rotate regularly so they can get some sleep in the little crew sleeping area, wait until that specific pilot was there sleeping, sneak in, having made sure I’ve got my phone volume up loud and the recording of WOOP WOOP terrain, pull up is ready, hold it next to his ear and see what happens.
