@OneBiasedOpinion Жыл бұрын
Remember guys: OP isn’t saying that you have to be licensed to have a gun on your person in all 52 states. There’s plenty of places where open carry without a license is common practice. They’re just saying that in the event you are carrying a firearm in a state that _requires_ a license for the firearm and the way you’re carrying it, the best way for everyone to have a safe encounter like this is to openly state that you have a state-approved license showing that you are competent and safe with that weapon _before_ stating that you have said weapon on your person. It helps the police understand that they are likely dealing with a reasonable person and not some hotshot who’d as soon shoot them in the face as talk to them. In the event that you’re carrying a firearm that is “illegal” in that area, what you choose to say about it is between you, God, and the crooks who decided they want to challenge our right to bear arms. You made your choice and now you gotta deal with it, regardless of how “legal” their demands are.

@Stuff_CS4 жыл бұрын
Warren Jensen it is exactly for that reason. The harder for the driver to see or face the officer, the harder it would be for the driver to cause the officer harm in the event the driver was a threat. It’s a common safety procedure.

@@Stuff_CS Okay, thanks for that. I don't reckon I've ever had a policeman stand behind me like that, it seemed to me like a power play. @@ACommenterOnKZbin When they pull you over they already have it on record that you have a concealed carry permit. So when the cop approaches your vehicle they're going to be nervous. If you reach too fast for something that could very easily get you killed. Letting officer know that you're carrying and where the weapon is located will calm the officers nerves. Which vastly reduces the chance that you'll be shot resulting in your death. Also sometimes cops have a ride along cop in training with them If that amateur cop knows you're carrying and they think you're reaching for something Once again that can get you shot and killed very easily

Note that when the driver reaches for his wallet at the 40 second mark, the LEO puts his hand on his pistol, ready to draw. Note that this obvious defensive maneuver doesn't offend the driver at all. I prefer "I have a concealed carry permit. My firearm is at my 5 o'clock position". I always lead with the permit. I advise my clients never to say the word "gun" or "handgun" because I'm always concerned that an unseen partner might walk up on the passenger side and only hear "gun". Otherwise, excellent. Polite, respectful, telling the officer you are armed and licensed. Not being combative or short. Keep your hands where the officer can see them. Tell them what you are going to do before you do it or ask "how would you like me to proceed", then repeat the instruction before doing it. I also display my bar card.

@@Ajidam even more reason to know how to handle this situation. 1) be calm 2) turn off your music and car 3) roll down your window 4) be respectful and polite 5) keep your hands on the steering wheel until the officer asks you to do something 6) tell the officer what you are going to do and ask them if that is ok 7) say "officer, I am a licensed concealed carry permit holder and have my firearm today. It is in a holster at my 4 o'clock position 8) let the officer tell you what to do. If you don't understand, ask them to repeat it (I have to sweep past my firearm to get my wallet out, is that ok?) 9) if for some reason, after doing all of that, you think the officer is uncomfortable, ask them if they would prefer to disarm you themselves, then describe the holster (I have an inside the waistband kydex hosted attached to my belt by one easy to remove clip) 10) if the officer wants to disarm you, let them. Fully cooperate. Bottom line, if you show the officer you respect them, remain calm, and cooperate, 99.9% of the time, nothing will happen. Most of the time, showing them respect, being calm, showing your hands, giving them information identifies you as not a piece of sh*t who might shoot them. Let them see your license and ccp. I've been stopped and having a ccp ended up being something the officer used to justify a warning instead of a ticket. My black clients who follow these steps have never had a problem. Most of the time, trouble comes from acting strangely or otherwise escalating the situation needlessly. One of the more dangerous thing cops do is your run of the mill traffic stop. Make them feel safe. You want to fight the ticket? Cool. That's what court is for. Hire a guy like me. Never on the street. I have a simple rule - I'm never going to hand an officer my firearm. Ever. Period. If an officer orders me to hand them my gun, I say "I would prefer it if you took it off of me. Would you like me to step out of the vehicle?"

We were taught in our conceal carry classes to have both drivers license and conceal carry ready for the officer when he approaches. This alleviates any miscommunication, and instantly makes the officer aware of the situation. Usually the officer will ask if your armed and thats when you spill the beans.
@hawkenman.5492 жыл бұрын
I think that is a bad idea. The officer will see you digging around and think something is going to happen. May I suggest you keep both hands on the wheel so the officer will not feel threatened. *FOOD FOR THOUGHT* When you talk to people down in the comments, try to remember that for the most part, you will never see them, hear them, meet them or ever even interact with them again. That shouldn't be taken to mean "I can be a miserable prick without reprocussions" but rather, you're not going to be able to really have the type of nuanced conversation required to have a real dialog with them. If you disagree, try not to view the other guy as the enemy - we're supposed to stick together as Americans, not fight each other. The politicians want us to fight, the news wants us to fight, and it's an election year - realize that they're all just emotionally manipulating us into hating our fellow whites, blacks, Hispanics and officers. Whatever views you have, whichever side of the issue you tend to lean towards, remember that if the result is another American Civil War, then the only winners are the news and the politicians. I may disagree with some of you, and you may disagree with me, but I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to any of you. Not the cops, whites, blacks, Hispanics, Jews, gays, or whatever else - I would hope that you would agree with me there, but I'm sure some of you still won't..... that's okay too. Just be *EXTREMELY AWARE* of anyone who is trying to get you to feel anger or hatred towards anybody, (anybody!) because at the end of the day, that's the most dangerous thing. We're just being used.
