I love where you're going with this! I'll see about watching that movie tonight. I would definitely be interested in learning. I know a lot already and while I feel confident in my abilities, I would feel better if I had a bit of guidance for my first major build. However, what I want to do is a little different than what you're doing. I want to build with traditional joinery rather than metal hardware. I want to build something that'll get people talking and bring some awareness to this space. If I knew of a place where I could cut down trees, the total cost to build would be in the hundreds instead of thousands. I haven't checked all of the details for gathering "firewood" in Michigan yet. I would need to know how many trees I would need and estimate the weight as to not overload my trailer... Then factor in the distance and see if it would be more costly compared to giving a local mill my lumber list. I do know a tree service guy I could contact, but there's no telling how long it would take for me to gather the logs I need that way. Perhaps I can make friends with a few tree service guys. 🤔

If you have a lot of time, and don't need a barn for a while that is a great way to go. It would be a great project to document, are you planning to share your progress on youtube, or some other platform? We have a public group called 'BarnGeeks DIY Barn building tips" check it out, that would be a great place to share your progress. Tree services are a a great resource, you will probably have to do a lot of sorting, since the logs tend to be lower quality than what you would get from a stand of timber. I would recommend getting a hold of a logger, you should be able to obtain some good quality logs at an affordable price.

@@BarnGeek I originally wanted the exterior of the extension to be finished by winter so I could finish the interior over the winter (15ft x 12ft). If I had the lumber, I know I could build that before winter. The barn would be my wood shop/lab for other projects. I'm debating whether or not to build that first. I haven't come up with a design for that, but I know it would be bigger than the extension and would require far more time and materials. But if neither can be done before winter, perhaps both can be done next year...? I managed over 14m followers a few years ago. We ended up having to start over from pretty much nothing. One of the lessons I learned from that experience was to never rely upon that which is unreliable. Since then, my business partner and I have been rebuilding things in such a way that we can't be taken down. We're having to pioneer some of the technology to make it work, which is why it's taking a while. When I finish building my website, I will upload video updates and articles there. KZbin and other platforms will be used for teaser videos just so people have a way to find me if they're on these platforms searching for such content. I'll check it out and likely link to it as a resource on my website. It may be a while before I officially launch my website though. I have a lot planned for it. I'm not too far from downtown Detroit. There are no logging trails anywhere in my area, so I'm a bit perplexed as to how I would go about finding a local logger. However, the difficulty of achieving the desired results has never stopped me from progressively realizing worthy ideas. More research is required.

I will be adding it to the library soon. It's a 12x16 shed. We have a 10x20 version in the library now.
