First off.. beautiful craftsmanship. Everything about this build is amazing other than the plumbing, specifically regardong the water distribution system being under slab. As a plumber, routing water lines under concrete, equals money. You going to have settling that occurs. If anyone lives were seismic actions are frequent and or freezing.. dont do this. Again this equals money, not today, not tomorrow but tomorrow is never promised in my book. Again, beautiful craftsmanship, having built many cabin on my property, perfection is key. Keep building and keep the dream alive. S/F

The most I ever learned was cutting my own frame for my house and teaching myself electrical plumbing and hvac. 5500’ of trench, taught myself how to do septic systems and have two. Something about having to sink or swim teaches you a lot. But my rich neighbors in an HOA connected to my 20 acres hate me for my out buildings. And I’m always building.

Came back to watch the video again, start to finish. I've built two timber frame buildings. Mine were tiny, by comparison, so I can appreciate what a monumental effort this was. Beautiful barn, love the timbers used, however, one thing I wouldnt have done is the vertical planks on the outside walls, to much moisture can get under them and cause rot, doing the Japanese Yakisugi timber burning technique would be good for the outside in the weather timbers. JMO

I have a question for you. I have never done any construction, but my wife and I have 35 or so acres in Maine, 30 of it is wooded. We have been considering putting up timber frame structures since the wood is free and just sitting there ready to be used. I know the timber frame goes up green, but did you also put up the siding and interior planking green, or was that dried for a bit? I have no idea how much shrinkage is to be expected. Any timber framing books you've read and recommend? There's certain aspects I can't find covered on KZbin. Thanks, and awesome job!

@@OldMotorcycleAdventures i got all my lumber from 15 acres of land. 90 or so pines. They say a year of dry time per inch....I decided not to wait. The structural wood dried for a year. And I didn't want the doors to warp so that wood was dried. The rest was live trees fell one day milled and installed the next. If your installing windows or doing any drywall you may want to follow drying times otherwise just put it up green.

this is a dream for me. I want to build a shop much like this once I buy my next property. Just don't want to wait the long haul to finish it as i don't have all the friends and family to finish it. It would literally be a 1 man build and i work slow as molasses. What was the shop size. Bout 30x30? I'm guessing? I wanna go pretty big probably 36x50 min (prob 40x60) on my next shop. as i have been doing a lot of fab work. so i need room to setup all my wood working machines and CNC and then setup a small metal shop w/ a plasma table. Think I'd put office & a spray room in 2nd floor loft area. 8-)

It suits me just fine. My liftedtruck fits under them so its good for me. I suppose I could have gone higher but no need. Center is 12. Fits my tractor with backhoe in stowed position. If you don't like the lean-to low ceilings then maybe pick a different design.

Pretty nice shack. Did you get all the lumber from your property? What size are the posts? Did you make the brackets for the posts? Only problem is you won't be able to get the plane out with the wings attached!
@barnbuiltbearhawk7267
@barnbuiltbearhawk7267 2 жыл бұрын
So true! I actually designed the barn around building a Glasair Sportsman 2+2. The wings can fold in and out in the barn with some manipulation. Though the price of those went through the roof. Ultimately the Bearhawk is a much better airplane for half the price! All lumber came from my lot and posts are 8x8 16 feet long and 6x6 for the awning roofs.
@psgflier

@@barnbuiltbearhawk7267 A fellow here built a Glastar, I gave him a little flight instruction in it, not too impressed. He sold it to a local fisherman who put a different prop on and performs much better now. He then went and bought a Sportsman 2+2. If I were going to build a personal use airplane it would be a BearHawk. I have a bunch of 10 X 10 16' and some 6 X 12 20" to build a warehouse, but it's just going to be post and beam not timber frame. Getting too old to manhandle those timbers anymore.

There is a flaw in your design, a floor beam should always sit on top of a support beam for maximum strength. When you cut into a support beam and put the floor beam into the hole you weaken both.
