there are so many practical things about focusing manually that have not been tackled, like the lenses required, the actual handling of the focus ring etc.

did you know you can plug the camera directly to the gimbal via USB-c and control focus and zoom without the follow focus?! As long as it is a lens that communicates with the body.

There are multiple ways I use the follow focus other than pulling focus. I also use it to zoom with my zoom lenses. It works great with a 24-70. And do fun effects! Like then going forward, decreasing the zoom at the same time! Creates a cool shot! Also I use it to control my variable ND filters! So for me it’s better than just for focus and in fact I barely used it for it!
@toiletpaper552 жыл бұрын
Thats crazy, i'd have thought that zooming with big lenses creates much more resistance on the gears designed for focus?
@AlfaMedtech2 жыл бұрын
@@toiletpaper55 it works perfect, it can handle a lot, you can see on my channel, that my zoom lens has a the gear already covering the entire zoom gear. So I don’t have to put that small thing around my lens.

How is it with balance on the Gimbal, while zooming? Is it not going off balance? and can you change between auto and manual focus while having follow focus mounted? Thanks!

I shoot with a Lumix S5 on the Crane 2S. Although I can control the focus electronically by connecting the camera to the gimbal, it always freezes up and stops working. I think I'll try the focus motor!

That follow focus looks great, but doesn't it feel like a monitor would be more useful to pull focus? It seems hard to nail it through that knob. How is the manual focus on the a7s3? I think that the fact that the canon M50 has really bad auto focus on 4k is a great opportunity to learn manual focusing (the viltrox speed booster can combat that crop factor).
@JorisHermans3 жыл бұрын
An external monitor would be a great help when shooting at f/2.8 or lower. The screen of the camera is too small especially in bright sunlight... but apparently also when there's snow 😄 And I had it set at its brightest. It's really difficult to see. I guess I'll have to save up for a monitor 🤷🏻♂️😥

So my question can we find a follow focus that we can use on a gimbal and on a SmallRig? The Zyiyun for that gimbal seems to only work on their gimbals but you can't use it for a separate rig. I've got the option for both.
@JorisHermans3 жыл бұрын
Good question. I'm not sure if there's a solution that works on both a gimbal AND a smallrig 🤔
@MelodeusForever3 жыл бұрын
@@JorisHermans Sure... :) yeah man, on one hand you have a follow focus device for a gimbal which is close to $100 bucks and you have a decent follow focus for a rail rig that's slightly above the $100 mark. I'd be willing to pay 150% over the average price for one if it could accommodate both. but good stuff man! thanks for the vid. It gives me something to think about.
