This old 1964 Ford Galaxy 500 Country Squire station wagon has been sitting for 45 years. It's sunk in the ground and completely full of junk and it's got the car weighted down bigtime. Let's get it pulled out and emptied out!

@Tango Downx2 yes , spark plugs , air filters , chains and 1 pull cord. No other work on the engine . 3-5 cords of wood a year. That's the point. To be fair ,even the new "brand name " ones are poorly built now. Anyway, good day sir.

That back window is electric. Standard on Country Squires. You will have to get into the tail gate to lower it. Even if it was a manual window, you have to lower it to open the tailgate.

When y'all are pulling with a chain, put an old tire between the two chains to take up the shock of the sudden snatch needed to get the thing moving. It ain't a Yankum rope, but it usually works and saves bent car parts.

Squirt some form of oil into the cylinders now and let it soak until you are ready to work on it.. 50-50 mix of ATF and Acetone works great as a penetrant.. Marvel mystery oil is also good..spray some on everything u think you might put a wrench 🔧 to... My dad had a 62 with a 352 in it... They look almost identical.. good luck on another Chadventure...

Yes I've had two Australian XL Falcon Squires (similar to US '63 Falcons) which are super rare and the only fake woodies ever made there. I even had one NOS piece of trim from when I used to scour the swapmeets in the '80s and '90s. It was all fibreglass.

I sure ain't no genius but fifteen hundred pounds is a very conservative estimate. My guess is north of a ton by a good bit...like say twenty five hundred pounds an that could be light. I was plumb flabbergasted when you showed that whole top loose from the body! What a great score. When you was over that way, I spotted that old galaxy and said, wish I knew what kind of shape its in as I just loved that model a rig. I couldn't afford that high a dress wagon so bought the same rig with a 289, and three on the tree. It ran so darn good and was one fine driver. We put so many miles on it that I won't even say it, you would just call me a liar for sure.. A bunch of the parts you took out don't fit this rig but they do have a value. I seen that steering linkages an it fits ford, those starters and alternators have got to be at least a few good ones. I see people looking and buying old carburetors because of the OEM stuff... sure do hope that you build the engine one shape or another as those FE engines were a good dependable engine in their day. Its the floors thats got me shivering as to will you even try doing a part of a floor pan... to do or not to do, that my friend is the question.

My Dad had a 1960 Ford Sunliner that I barely remember, it was black and pretty slick. He traded that in for one of these. This was a good looking thing in its day too, but I, as a 7 year old, still remember that he traded the “good” one for this wagon which he thought was better for a family. I have memories of us all going to McDonalds for burgers and fries, my sister and me, in the back end like it was a freaking living room. Fun memory. Thanks!

1965 mercury colony park wagon, it was mom’s commuter carrying kids everywhere. It was our vacation wagon, it went everywhere that we asked it to go and fast. We would be going up the Smokey mountains with all seven of us and pulling a small travel trailer passing people slow pokes. That’s when I learned that dad had a lead foot. Standing on the armrest peeing out the window because dad didn’t want to stop and with five kids no wonder. But we loved our mercury, how can you love something that is just a machine I don’t know. I was the youngest of five boys and at five years old I was very fond of our wagon.

I went through that process of removing the drum and everything else preventing me from pulling a rear axle from a ‘67 Ford Truck rusting in a cow pasture. I needed the 3:50 gear head from the diff. It took me two hours to get everything apart so I could slide that axle out, but it had to be done. I was embarrassed by all the damage I did to get that gear head out, but the truck was a goner anyway, and it was worth it. When I cracked the cover off that pumpkin, the most beautiful clear fluid came out, and there wasn’t a speck of metal in the bottom of that case, and there was no sign of wear. It’s in the 9” rear end of my ‘65 Falcon (Econoline) van right now.

I use a large 3 claw puller to remove old stuck drums. Works great. Yes it sometimes tears the linings off the shoes & breaks some springs, but you need to replace all that anyway if you are getting the car road ready. Local parts stores usually have a loaner but I’ve found those to be a softer Chinese metal. I bought an OTC one & it does the job. Tap with a hammer slowly pull.

my first car was probably the grandson of this car. i had a 1979 Ford LTD station wagon. not the country squire though. it had no fake wood trim, that car was a good first car, but it handled like a boat and had a lot of problems with the carburetor. it broke down once a month. i think i rather would have preferred this to that one..this car looks cool. cant wait to see you trying to get it going.

I had a blue 79 LTD wagon without the fake woodgrain, and had the vent wing windows up front. Mine had the factory towing package that included a 351W and C6 transmission, factory air shocks, auxilary transmission and power steering cooler, and "Premium Sound" that didn't sound very premium. I drove the thing until rust took its toll. It remains the most favorite car I've owned..

The 2 pieces of trim you pulled out of the back are early Corvair. Like 60-64. 64 Galaxies are my favorite. You do have to have the back window down in order to open the tailgate. The easiest way is by pulling the wires off the switch on the dash. Then jumper power into it. I sure could use that power window switch off of that parts car tailgate. Let me know if you're looking to get rid of it.

Like you, I'm a GM bloke, but the old Country Squire......well, she's got a bit of style and I've got bit of a soft spot for her. Love that faux woodgrain on the sides and the framing of it. Always thought that was made of Ash or some other extremely hard wood, but maybe that was just imagination. For sure, grab that lid off the blue / green one in the woods - especially if she's already become a pop-top. At least you could sit it over the roof of this one and maybe stop some of the water getting in, but since the floor isn't there any more, it's probably a moot point! I do like the red interior on the black car, so she was definitely a sharp looker in the day.....and will be again with a whole lot of love. Will enjoy seeing this one come back to the road, for sure! All the best.

I was born in late autumn 1963. The first car of ours in my memory was a blue-green 1964 Ford Country Sedan. In reminiscing, my dad said it had the 352, factory dual exhausts, and ran "super good". He said he put glasspacks on it so I'm sure it sounded good too. My mother simply said it was "a gas hog". I guess I shouldn't be surprised at that remark, as my parents' previous car was a "stripped" 6 cylinder 3 on the tree 1960 Ford sedan. It really was a stripped car, as it was simply a "Ford" (no series name).

My Dad had this same car. The round key operators the back window. But the battery needs charging to make it work. His car was white with tan interior. It also had a 390. The window fluid was in a soft bag. I would love to have it now but he sold it to a friend for $500. If you ever sell this car after you get it fixed up I would sure like to see it. I also took my drive test in his 64 ford station wagon. What a GREAT CAR.

Awesome project. Looking forward to seeing this one. Great find. I definitely would be getting all good parts off that other one. Hard to find these wagons anymore

Sweet ride. The roof doesn't look too good but the glass is all there. That's a plus for sure
