You can get diseases from ticks. Is it really a good idea to put the blood on yourself? You don’t need to pop them - sticking them in water will kill them fast enough. You’re doing a great job, but you should look after yourself at the same time. Good luck!

Dear Lucas, I think you’re doing a fantastic job with the tortoises. I would think that, as the ticks are quite awkward to see, most people wouldn’t even be aware that they were there. You bother to both look for them, and to get rid of them. It’s a shame that the ticks keep coming back but, as you said, you can’t stop everything coming in to a backyard. You’ve made it as tick free as the tortoises could be - they couldn’t ask for more!

I have been asked how Lyme’s disease affects someone. So here goes. Apparently symptoms can appear in a few days, although some can take months or even years to come out. Initial symptoms can be severe or not so bad, and they can include: fatigue, rash, fever, muscle and joint pain, headache, swollen lymph nodes, sweats, gastrointestinal problems, conjunctivitis and nerve damage which can cause paralysis (particularly of the face). You might just get one or two symptoms or many more, and they may be fairly mild or very severe. Symptoms later on might include: agonising pain as the nerve roots of the spinal cord are inflamed; occasional encephalitis and meningitis; asymmetric paralysis which can occur anywhere - including the face; heart problems; intermittent and chronic joint inflammation and other problems; chronic inflammation of the skin and you can get inflammation and other problems of the brain and spinal cord. Chronic problems with the spinal cord can cause: problems with walking, speaking, dizziness, hearing and sight. Lastly it can also cause paralysis, including paralysis of the bladder. Again, these can be at differing levels of severity. Someone who knows, or even thinks he/she has been bitten or been in contact boawith a tick apparently must go to the doctor/hospital to be checked as symptoms can be caused by other things. It is essential to start on the correct therapy/ medication as soon as possible. I’ve had to look this up and hope therefore that I’ve relayed it correctly to you. I also hope that I have not infringed any copyright. I think that if you get Lyme’s disease, it is not an easy thing to get rid of it. Apologies if I’ve got anything wrong.
@elizabethlovell99975 жыл бұрын
In the last paragraph of the message I just sent(by accident), I wrote ‘boawith’, which is rubbish. One of our dogs jumped up and clicked the keys! It was supposed to be that either the tick bit you, or it managed to get some of its’ revoltingness into a scratch or skin break on you.

Look m8, I am LIVING for what you do, it is amazing. Honestly many people are so cruel with animals and think they have the righ t to call an animal hopeless. So you doing this and and rescuing tortoises is a heartwarming thing to know. But I don't think you should be recording ll of it, you don't need to get the tick on camera. The tortoise needs the attention and just wants to get it over with. WE as viewers don't need to see t, just knowing that you got it off is good enough. But when you are checking them for something medical or something as simple as a tick you don't need to rec it all.

It you’re kinda nervous abt him touching the blood, ya know the disease! Read this! All right, once I was in my moms ex boyfriends yard, where there is a lot of Long grass and trees. I was in the yard A LOT and I did not really think abt ticks. But then 1 or 2 weeks later, in school, I was sitting on a toilet (idk if that’s to personal but idgaf) I saw a little black spot on my thigh. I was like wth, so idk why but I Tried to pull it of, and when I did that, it hurt a little. Later that day I said what has happened to my dad and he was like: “we’ll just check it every morning and night, to see if the tick has the disease.” 2 weeks later there was a red ring around the spot where I took the tick of (that’s the sign that the tick’s got the disease). We went to the doctor, and we were right! I had to get 3 pills a day plus some other kinds of pills, cuz my stomach was not use to it! That was for 2 weeks, and then I was clean from the disease! Just wanted to share this, if your a little concerned.❤️❤️
