Pulp Fiction: I'm Winston Wolfe, I solve problems
What’s happening in this Pulp Fiction movie clip?
After Vincent (John Travolta) accidentally killed Marvin, Jules (Samuel L. Jackson) calls an expert cleaner, Winston Wolfe (Harvey Keitel), who gives Jules and Vincent very specific instructions on how to clean the car, hide the body and clean themselves.
Rent or buy Pulp Fiction here: amzn.to/3jRNNfJ
What’s the movie Pulp Fiction about?
Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, Pulp Fiction follows the mission of two hitmen, Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson) and Vincent Vega (John Travolta), out to retrieve a suitcase stolen from their employer, mob boss Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames). Wallace has also asked Vincent to take his wife Mia (Uma Thurman) out a few days later when Wallace himself will be out of town. Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis) is an aging boxer who is paid by Wallace to lose his next fight. Honey Bunny and Pumpkin (Tim Roth) are a couple of young lovers and small-time thieves who decide they need a change of venue. The lives of these seemingly unrelated people are woven together in a wildly entertaining and exhilarating motion picture adventure that both thrills and amuses.

It's implied the Mr. Wolf will take the cleaned car/body and get rid of it so it doesn't come back to them that's the problem he's solving. He is just trying to get the car passable for road travel so he doesn't stand out, meaning if they don't do a good job Mr. Wolf will get caught in a car drenched in blood with a body in the trunk. So him being a little terse is understandable.

Mr. Wolf doesn't need coffee to stay awake and get his brain from 30% performance to 60% performance, as most black coffee drinkers would. He needs coffee for extra blood pressure, sugar for immediate infusion of energy, and cream for extended infusion of energy, to bring his brain performance from 100% to 120%. Also, he needs Jimmie out of the garage, because Jimmie looking too much at the massacre is potential trouble, but demanding Jimmie to leave his own garage could be met with resistance.

If you really think about it, Vince killed Marvin on purpose. His finger was in the trigger the whole time, and he was kinda weirded out about Marvin "forgetting" that Alexis Arquette was in the shitter with a Python. People who don't understand or misunderstand this scene, often make the mistake of believing that Wolf is just Tarantino's gag of being ironic. Someone like Wolf is actually very useful and important to have around: a clear thinker who knows exactly what to do in a difficult situation, thinking of all details quickly, whilst maintaining a clear head. Yes, he is telling them what to do. But most people end up doing the wrong things and not thinking of the consequences. He is telling them to do the right things without wasting time. I know people like this, and they're an invaluable resource. A lot of people say "well it's obvious you should clean the car..." No it's not. Some people might just burn the car. Or drive it into a forest and abandon it. Or they will wash it incorrectly or they will wash it too thoroughly and end up losing too much time. Wolf knew what to do, when to do it, and how to get rid of the car (which he organized himself). So yes, he indeed is a problem solver and solved it very successfully.

As someone that has to solve problems all the time, i admire mr Wolfe’s skills. Pay attention what was the first thing he asks when they approach the car. Whether car has any problems. He already envisioned how the cop pulls them over for something stupid and they get caught. That is thinking forward. Second he calculated the time and figured that the only way is to do a quick mask, for anything else they just don’t have enough time. And instead of panicking he just choses the course of actions and forgets about it. That is the ability to act under pressure. Third he even find a time to address the issue that now they need to stop thinking and do what he says. He even encourages them by saying that it is a plenty of time which will make his employees relax and perform well. That is the ability to manage your workers. Fourth he understands the importance of small things that needs to be taken care of like coffee so that he can perform on that level for a long time, otherwise he would burn out after a year of problem solving. Fifth when he faces unexpected issue like Vincent trying to f up the whole thing. He makes everything straight in less then 10 second, without escalating the situation. That is the ability to articulate your thoughts perfectly. Fifth which is fifth for me because of the lack of planning which is first which is second, he addressed the issue of whether they have enough resources even before he see the car, to take care of it in case they are out of blankets and sheets. I can tell you how this would go without mr wolfe. They would start scrubbing one small area in the car make it shiny white figure out that doesn’t work and call mr wolfe.

Yeah people are missing the point about why he is there: - Manages the panicked crew that doesn’t know how to proceed. Probably the most important. - Tells them to clean the car but just enough to not get caught. The blanket idea was simple, fast and effective. - De-escalates the situation with Jimmy and compensates him to keep him on the side of Marsellus. -Provides a car/body disposal site near of the location.

Jules is in a complete panic as he talks with Marsellus, right up until he hears "I'm sending the Wolf". His immediate, calm response, "why didn't you say so?" Before Wolf even makes his appearance, you know the Wolf is the best there is at what he does. The immediate respect he gets from Jimmy and Jules also tells you his reputation for problem solving is well known. In a few short minutes, Harvey Keitel hits it out of the park. What a talent!

Jeebus the dialogue is good. Each character shows so much personality in just a few words. Mr. Wolf getting straight to business and giving everyone respect. Vincent talking back to Mr. Wolf after even Jimmy was following instructions without asking *in his own house*, when this whole mess was his fault in the first place. Jules just stays cool and once again talks his way around a heated situation (that Vincent got him into).

A perfect portrait of what typical leaders look like. They usually do nothing themselves but are still valued in this world, because they know how to grasp the whole situations and know the way out of them when most people are at a loss. And yes, people often dislike them for their condescending attitude. There are those leaders who just enjoy authorities so much that they become assholes.
