I preferred the UAD one in this example. However it will really depend on the track and what you're doing with the EQ. They don't sound the same at all, so I guess the only way of knowing is testing it more oneself. I suspect there will also be a difference in harmonics that are being introduced.

dang I was really hoping the pulsar was better or at least as good haha, much cheaper to buy. I closed my eyes to do a blind test 3 times and picked the UAD one each time. The Pulsar's high end sounded kind of like a telephone signal, and not in a flattering way. And of course the low end on the UAD was better. Thanks!

@Evidence-Based Music, True, the UAD one has something that is very pleasing to the ears. Although someone once commented that both are not exact that I would have adjusted them differently. I chose to keep both settings same as both claim to be a Manley Massive Passive, the settings should be same.

Magenta is a serial topology… as soon as more than one band is engaged, the filter shapes won’t match the hardware, or the emulations.

The bottom on the UAD does sound "Slightly Better....but......UAD Closes in and muffles the mix....and Pulsar leaves it open....So I would Rather EQ around that Issue with Pulsar...and have a Higher Attak Attack...slightly slower Release on a SSL Style Bum Comp....to push up the Punch in the Mix....and over all its going to sound better than the UAD...UAD plugins...sound really Smeary....its basically adding 400K boost in its tone to the mix...which will always muddy up a Mix...You want your EQ Flat....You dont want a Waves, Plugin Alliance .Or UAD EQ for that Reason Slate Pulsar PSP Acustica Audio Kiive and Nebula...all have flater more even toned EQs.....

Both sound great. The Manley does have that reverse dip or bump depending on if you're cutting or boosting. I think that's a big part of its unique secret sauce. I would not complain if I owned the Manley, and I do own the Pulsar variant. I just got it over the Black Friday sale as a bundle with their Mu compressor for $135. It does sound very good on its own, however it's not exactly going to be a Manley. I would opine that the Pulsar is giving 90% of the Manley sounds. And I'll take 90% of a Manley any day. Honestly, on my Pulsar Massive, it still feels odd that I can boost highs and lows as much as I do and get away with it still being so good and musical. I must admit I am tag teaming the Massive with the Pulsar Mu.

you have to boost the UAD a bit more to get the exact same result as with the Massive.... They sound the same, just make sure in Plug in Doctor that the curves match.

Why wouldnt you compare both plugins with the same analyzer? This is no meaningfull reading on the behavior of the pulsar curves

Inaccurate comparison man, of course UAD sounds better, it is clear it is boosting much more than pulsar, yo can´t go with numbers when using pulsar, the plugin behaves completely different, please watch Dan Worral´s Pulsar Massive review, he clearely explains how the plugin behaves, you are clearly not listening to your ears, just copy/pasting settings, it was as simple as running the pulsar through bertom analyzer and make sure both curves where the same, then match the LUFS. I´m sorry if I was tough I´m just sick of founding missleading information on KZbin

You used the mastering version on the UAD.. Probably why the curves aren't the same..

Acustica Audio Magenta beats both, I tested them together, while there are minimal differences between uad and pulsar

Magenta isn’t a passive eq.. I have a 2017 massive passive and magenta…the pulsar is absolutely closer

I agree and I used Acustica but because Pulsar has more features...oversampling and you can use it more "real time...its dsp hungry but not as bad as Acustica.....I would use the Pulare to Scuplt the sound......with Buster SE from Analog Obssion Bounce Then Run Mix through my Analog Gear Then throw on.....Sand3, Taup and ASH as a limiter on export out as 88htz Thats how I use this

is not fair to compare a plugin whit dsp ACCELERATORS against a plug in whit no dsp ACCELERATORS the manley should be put against the hardware and not the pulsar even if it tries to copy the massive passive it would be better to make a video about the different passive eqs on the same level that would be more fair
