Hi max its nice to see a pulse mig video about carbon steel. Most of the videos on KZbin are about aluminium only. I have a pulse mig in my home shop and had issues burning up consumables initially I changed to zirconiated tips and then eventually a full water cooled torch which solved all my issues. I use a try mix gas with my machine
@5thStreetFab
@5thStreetFab 5 жыл бұрын
Ya I thought the same thing. I used a trimix on stainless before but not of carbon how does it work?
@chrisbergin8084

@@5thStreetFab yeah saying that there isn't a whole lot on pulse mig full stop. My machine does double pulse which i use for aluminium was a bit of a steep learning curve as its not my day job and id usually just go straight for the tig. The try mix gas works well cant remember exact mix but its argon carbon and oxigen. Have you used your machine much in the vertical up position i found my synergic values to be to high i tend to go off the amprage or wfs for v up
@ZILAwelds
@ZILAwelds 5 жыл бұрын
chris bergin they are always “too high” for vertical. The values shown (doesn’t matter which manufacture) are typical for the flat position only. Like a 1F or 1G weld .... if you go out of position expect to dial the machine down.

@@ZILAwelds Hi ZIla thanks i quickly worked this out this is my first synergic machine although ive now had it for about 1.5 years its a re branded Lorch sp320. Have you thought about doing a pulse mig on carbon steel video?
@ZILAwelds
@ZILAwelds 5 жыл бұрын
chris bergin i will make one. I am familiar with the machine you have. Its sold as a thermal arc migmaster 320 here and at some point i new the australian name ... but its not coming to mind right now ... in australia the machine is white or grey with blue writing i think. Either way lots of programs in there - really expensive here in the usa almost $8000 and its a single phase machine only. It is very similar to the lincoln C300 or the HTP pro pulse 300 So maybe i should make a video on pulse mig steel with the pp300 .... the 200 only has single pulse on steel - the 300 has single, double and manual adjustable double pulse .... you can do some wicket cool looking stuff with that .... make some nice ripples.... when i get some time in a few weeks i will try to make a video on that ....

the recommendation to go up a size on your contact tip, is that specific to the mfg of your rig or is it recommended for the process?

Hey Max great video. I was looking into upgrading to a pulse meg welder. My question is how does 90/10 gas mix work with short meg welding? If I upgrade I would not want two have two (75/25 mix)different bottles. Also is there a reason not to use pulse welding for mild steel?

Another way for drive roll tension put a glove on and pinch the wire with your thumb and finger until the drive rolls just start slipping.

THX. WHEN YOU SET THE WIRE FEED SPEED DOES THE MACHINE AUTOMATICALLY SET THE UPPER AND LOWER LIMITS OF THE PULSE IE AMPS AND VOLTS? ARE THE MAX SETTINGS MUCH HIGHER THAN IN THE NON PULSED MODE/
@5thStreetFab
@5thStreetFab 4 ай бұрын
Yes it automatically adjusts it but you can trim it up or down to your liking. Im not sure about the max settings

I just looked at the welder on Thier web site. What's the difference between the aluminum mig gun and the steel mig gun. Is it just the liner?
@5thStreetFab
@5thStreetFab 5 жыл бұрын
The Aluminum gun is shorter with a plastic liner and a higher rated gun as far as amps. It makes it easier for pushing the soft Aluminum through the gun.

What determines whether you are running short or long arc length? Distance you run your gun from the material? Voltage you run? It is my understanding that the Pro Pulse 200 adjusts your arc length automatically as you are welding, this is what gives it a consistent weld.
@5thStreetFab
@5thStreetFab 5 жыл бұрын
Ya so basically the voltage controls your arc length if you increase your voltage the wire will start melting further away from the puddle, which will give you a wider bead. The pro pulse will self adjust to keep your amperage consistent even if you're running a longer stick out or your work to tip distance.

Killer talent man. I know U R busy, but I can’t find 1 thing online about pulse Mig’s effect on the welding tip. I’m considering a Miller 255 with pulse. The reason is that I hate the constant black and mess on my welding tips! I’m hoping that pulse Mig would fix 90% of that. Would appreciate any word about this👍🎃

5th Street Fab Thank you. Just a suggestion, but if you want a video idea, I can’t find a decent video covering Miller pulse weld on steel anywhere on planet earth. I think pulse Mig on steel just might be the next big thing trending in welding. And the current videos on it are skimpy and lame.
