PUMA has been into track spikes since forever, they were a principal product of the Dassler brothers from the 1920s until their split in 1948 Tommy Smith was wearing them at the Mexico City Olympics in 1968

QD: "Puma" reminds me of my old SpeedCat shoes. Not a running shoe, but rather a low profile driving shoe (I also used them to longboard). I'm happy to see Puma producing good running shoes and seemingly competing against the best too.

These are my Sunday road racers and they carried me from PB 5k 20:47 to 19:50 this year. I think if you improve your stride wearing these rather than cadence run you get a lot out of them. However when it comes to 10 x 100 strides I’ll practice at 100 in 14 seconds wearing Puma liberty nitro but can only muster 18 in Fastr Nitro elite. I think they are best for when you want to run your fastest 5k - 10k. I would encourage squats, glute resistance and jump rope training to fortify your body before trying to run a PB in carbon plate super shoes. The extra energy return may cause injuries. In addition to that I sometimes train with a more flat footed shoe like the liberty nitro to keep grounded and also carbon plated deviate nitro 2 at say 80% top pace. For long and or slow / recovery runs I sport the velocity nitro. I love Puma gear.

YES I am looking forward to this one! Refreshing the sale page daily now. Has anybody noticed that the Fast-R shoes on athletes and testers have way different outsoles than on the sales page? On the website it has some form of waterdrop shapes and the ones Seth is using have an outsole more like the ones found on Reeboks floatride shoes... I am wondering are these a possible choice for Rotterdam? PUMA has always been a well known sports brand in the Netherlands. So to me it has always been Nike, Adidas and Puma as the big 3 brands with Asics, New Balance and Reebok as runners up. For some reason PUMAs socks are cheap and widely available too. So as a kid and as a teenager I had quite a few pairs of puma socks. Even though the brand itself didn't mean a thing to me. Seth are you going to watch the Tokyo marathon tomorrow?

Qd: Never actually run in Puma… I was an ASICS and Nike guy in HS track and CC-definitely agree with soccer products, someone said cheap socks (for sure!) in elementary and middle school! However, I think of Usain Bolt when I think of Puma, given visibility with the brand the last 10 years!

QOD: When I think of Puma I think of the very first pair of running shoes I ever got. When I joined my HS track team in 1970 they actually gave us a pair of Puma running shoes. The were black with rounded toe boxes and I believe the were really for sprinters, not middle distance guys. I wish I had a picture or could remember the name.

QD: automotive racing shoes. Commonly overlooked, but Puma has been making racing shoes for drivers for a long time, meeting FIA fire safety requirements. It’s interesting the design and tech that goes into shoes for drivers. A lot of F1 and even some NASCAR drivers wear Puma racing shoes and even driver suits now. BTW, Molly ran the Olympic Marathon in the Deviate Nitro Elite, but I believe the entire Puma team at Boston will be running in the Fast-R. On “The Drop” podcast, Puma’s North American product director said they weren’t expecting the demand to be this high for their product, so supply chain issues have become a problem, and it sounds like the Fast-R you have is not the finished product, according to his statements. Some adjustments are still being made.
