An initial review of the recently released PUMA FAST-R NITRO ELITE
A shoe sent to me from PUMA for review yet they are not vetting my views and will have no input into my honest opinions here.
A wild new design idea and aesthetic, does it work though? Nitro Elite foam in the forefoot and firmer EVA in the rear, no midsole in the arch!
I found the shoe works well for me in a TEMPO NEXT% kind of fashion, but the narrow forefoot wont be for everyone.
I comment on the upper, midsole and outsole after my initial efforts.

I have the OG colourway, but from the production models that launched in Europe (as I can't run for sh*t) rather than promo, and it's the same outsole so they obvs switched it up in-between. Also just had to check if I have the Tongue Rocket - delighted to confirm that OG colourway has it too. Love your attention to detail Edd.

Can’t yet work this one out yet - did a 26km workout, agree it does feel rather tight around the forefoot and wonder for a marathon it might be too much. Agree lockdown is excellent. I found the firmer heel kept you on your toes though, good if you strike mid foot. I may risk it for London

Recently bought my first pair of Pumas (after 30 years of running), the Deviate Nitro. Blown away by the shoe. Apart from some minor Achilles rubbing, I have nothing but a positive impression. I’d definitely buy them again, possibly the Deviate Nitro 2s when they’re available . I’m intrigued by the Puma Fast-R Nitro elite. It sounds like a very good alternative to the usual Nike Next % super shoe purchase. I’d definitely try them for a marathon.

This shoes looks good and I would be all over it in the January sales and some Christmas money, but the toe-box width puts me off sadly. Otherwise I agree entirely having bought a couple of Puma shoes recently, PumaGrip is great and the nitro foam is ace.

Love this shoe! And I’m a trail runner here in rugged Colorado (just raced a 50-miler yesterday with 10,000’ of vertical ascent). But my weekly track run is benefiting from the FastR. The ride is smooth, the upper amazing as you point out. And the grip is exceptional! Glad you’re feeling better -

The shoes are insane. Fantastic shoe box. Shoes have great potential. Bravo Puma! However, my ranking of the fastest shoes is: 1 - Nike Vaporfly 2 -, AAP 3 - Puma FAST-R. I would like to add that I run in all these shoes. Greetings from Poland P.S. I watch every new episode regularly

I don't know what shoes he will run in? However, many competitors will definitely run AAP 3 - this is such a successful combination of AAP2 and Prime X :)

Hi Ed…interesting review. May be I will get a pair to try it out. Have been running with the Saucony Endorphin Pro 3 the last few weeks. this is definitely a serious competitor to the Vaporfly. Each and every run I tried to slow down and I thought I did (at least by perceived effort I did 😮) but my watch was telling me otherwise. This is a deceptively fast shoe, not quite the crazy snappiness of the Alphafly but it is a great shoe to run in 👍

Did either of you find the Endo Pro short? I’m asking bc I’ve been wearing the Endo Speed in my marathons and HM’s and in v3 I definitely prefer the Pro, which I tried on in a store in San Diego a couple of weeks ago. But they only had a 9.5 for me to try, and it didn’t really feel that big on me. The staff person thought a 9 might be too short even if they’d had it.

I got this one on the small EU release in February/March and have to say I didn't love the ride. And it has a very narrow fit and is rather heavy.

Lucky got a 30% discount code from their app for challenges completed in the year. The nitro I’m a uk12 and in this fast-R im fitting a uk11, generally go for a UK11.5 and have size uk10.5 feet

Did experiment with a 10.5 in the deviate nitro elite. This one seems ideal in the 11.

Also the insole is very thick in the fast-r so if it’s a little tight you can easily remove and stick another one in. Inov-8 boomerang insole are great

Narrow fit - good (for me). Lack of any sign of a UK 13 not so good so am out here at the moment although for that price maybe blessing in disguise. Must say never really understand Puma strategy with their top end races shoes. Just checked Puma UK and Start Fitness and basically sold out in all sizes and don't think was ever available anywhere else in the UK. Was the same with the Deviate Nitro Elite. So I kind of feel if they want them to appeal to more runners probably need to concentrate on making some before making them wider. The price and looks does make it look more like a hype beast shoe. For that price does it really compete with the Nike, Saucony and adidas offerings in actual race conditions. And if you can use a shoe for a half marathon why not a full one?
