Thank you for a brilliant and concise video Dave and Eddie. You covered everything. Returning soon to my hometown of Fleetwood, back to the sea, fishing, and no more backbreaking fork digging for bait. Thanks again! Vert best wishes. Tony

What a difference a washer makes ! I have one of those no-name £30 pumps and was on the verge of ditching it and shelling out for an Alvey as my results have been poor - but "don't be hasty" said a little miser on my shoulder "give the home made silicone washers a try". Wow ! huge improvement - it really works - no need to change my pump now - worms galore. Thanks for a really great video.

Somewhat ironically, my £30 pump did work well with the silicone washers but it fell to bits after one season of pumping lug and I have replaced it with an Alvey after all. Still use and swear by the home brew silicone washers though as the Alvey needs them too - even the washers that come with the Alvey are pants so silicone still rules.

Difficult because space here limited. Blow lug smaller and mid shore. Black very big, lower shore, and not all beaches. The burrows are the main give away - U shaped for blow and vertical burrows for black. Even scientists confused them until recent DNA studies. When handling black, you get yellow iodine staining on the hands. Black always self gut when removed from sand - blow lug don't. Hope this helps. Phill
@StealthCroft13 жыл бұрын
@pokermiller1 You can't pump blowlug in the same way. Blacklug make vertical burrows which the pump can suck them out of. Blowlug make 'U' shaped burrows, and unfortunately, the suction of the pump will not work around bends. Hope this helps Regards Phill

Hi thanks for your video, I made the silicone washer but I find it very hard to move the shaft because it creates a perfect seal inside the cylinder now I'm not sure if it requires a lubricant so it can slide easily, just a little tension on the wing nut and it locks hard and if I loosen it it slides OK but not enough suction. Please need your opinion thanks

I've always salted my blacks as just freezing them makes them really soft and crabs strip them a lot quicker. Fresh is always best though.

Hello Phill, great video, very informative and you're a natural on camera! ...May I ask please, how did you make your silicone washer? For example, did you inject an inch thick layer all in one go or did you do it in layers, allowing each layer to dry first? ...I tried it all in one go but found that it stayed goo in the middle. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Rob.
