My stepfather was obsessed with this movie and used to work out in the garage underneath a big poster of Arnold. Not only could you hear him working out through the door. ..but you could *smell* him working out through the door. And with that thought...I leave you. xoxo

If you want to see a "running-man-like" movie, where they are not chased through a arena, but through a city, you should check out The 10th Victim. It's a great, strange and stylish movie from Elio Petri with Marcello Mastroianni and Ursula Andress.

I have come up with a great KZbin channel idea: Don Knotts, action star. Imagine any of Arnold's classic one liners as spoken by Don Knotts.
@Kmac00510 жыл бұрын
Your comments about Ferrigno in the film were certainly insightful, but his seeming isolation may be due to two factors. He was about 80% deaf which made communication somewhat difficult for him and the director of the film purposefully shot his workouts under different conditions and lighting to emphasize the personality differences between him and Arnold. However, you can see how Arnold was going to become a big star which is arguably the main attraction of the film in seeing his smarts and personality.
@nilus2k10 жыл бұрын
I am not sure the full extent of Ferrigno's deafness but I do know that I met him in person and you would never know he has any hearing loss. He's a really nice guy and fun to talk to. Now this of course was 30 years after the movie with enhancements in how they treat deafness and newer hearing aids. So it may have been more of a problem back in the 70s
@Kmac00510 жыл бұрын
The fact that he is 80% deaf due to ear infections when he was an infant is certainly true and was well known at the time the movie came out. It is also true that he learned to read lips and with advancing technology he can now hear better than ever before. However, I also said that it was the way the director decided to film his workout sessions that create the illusion of a more distant "hang dog" type of impression that Matt got.

In 1970 the Germans had I believe a 3 part TV special called "The Million Game". It was a fake gameshow set all around Germany in which a man was chased by a bunch of guys both competing for a million Mark. The objective was either to kill him or to stay alive. It featured unknown actors, actual television hosts and fake interviews with bystanders which resulted in a similar effect to 1938s radio broadcast "The War of the Worlds". It must have been a huge publicity stunt and it worked. People got really riled up over this. I've never seen or read Running Man sounds familiar, though. You think Stephen King might have borrowed this idea?

Ya Arnold was a smart dude. He was a multi-millionaire within a year of moving to the states. Him and his body building buddies started a brick laying business and marketed themselves as "exotic European brick layers" (or something of that ilk). All they did was lay bricks but the novelty of seeing these giant men laying bricks made them a small fortune.

Pumping Iron is not about the strongest men in the world. That is a different competition all together. This was just body building, which is about making the muscles look good. As the competition has evolved, this has lead to steroid abuse, which the movie did not cover. Body building competitions take place when the men are at their physical weakest! They have very low body fat (2.5-3%) and often pass out backstage from starvation! This is all to show off their muscles with as little fat coverage as possible, sometimes bruising the heart as it has no protecting layer of fat.
@PresidentRory10 жыл бұрын
I love seeing people like you spewing the same misinformed garbage like it's firsthand information to them. Do a little more research, you sound like someone who has never talked to a bodybuilder, been to a show or even worked out for an extended period of time.
@phaedruslive10 жыл бұрын
PresidentRory How do you mean? They aren't strong. That's pretty well established.
@ndgv210 жыл бұрын
arnold has stated that they took Dbol like candy, which is a very strong steroid. it was quite obvious and very much used far before this movie was even made.
@PresidentRory10 жыл бұрын
I'm not disputing steroids, and since this is a entertainment channel, I don't expect there to be many of you who know much at all. I would love to know where the information about bruising the heart and they all pass out backstage, comes from. I'm sure it's some article you guys read on Facebook without fact checking. Lastly, please explain how men who are covered in huge muscles are weak. I would love to hear your logic on that one.
@phaedruslive10 жыл бұрын
PresidentRory ''I really would love to hear the logic on that one' Welp, I'll keep it simple. Why, if bodybuilders are so strong (In your feverish imagination) is there a 130 pound man at 5'3 that moves more weight than any of the lifters in pumping iron. (His name is Richard Hawthorne) In fact, only a handful of men in the modern Olympia can post his numbers, Every one of them also outweight him by at least 100 pounds. Coincidentally, they're the ones who focused on strength training rather than peacock lifts/brosplits.

You actually could film a movie about burning books without burning any books. You would just have to produce a lot of props that look like books. Just a cover and pages but no actual words. No real books would get burned but you're give the illusion that you did. It's not like the audience will know that there's no actual words in those books, just a lot of blank pages.
@dirigibility10 жыл бұрын
Make a book so you don't have to burn a book?
@RialVestro10 жыл бұрын
Joel Rayburn Well it's not really a book if there's no words in it. It just looks like a book. It's like throwing a dummy off a building so it looks like a person was killed without actually killing anyone. Plus now days we could also just CGI the fire so it looks like books are burning but not actually have a fire.
@BigBadassR10 жыл бұрын
Books are just objects. They aren't living beings and they aren't holy. Nothing any different from burning a bunch of books then burning firewood.
@RialVestro10 жыл бұрын
Big R Actually the difference is that books have an educational value and firewood doesn't. Which is why I talked about fake books. If there are no words to read, the entire point of having a book is lost. Though I do think book burning is quite as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I mean they are just objects that can be replaced. If there was only a single copy of every book and they could never be reprinted then I'd probably care more about burning them.
