Now this is the exact thing I've been looking for. I'm doing exactly this kind of work on the piece I'm doing now. I've had to just figure it out from looking at a super-high resolution photo someone took of a 14th century painting of the Annunciation in the Uffizi by Simone Martini. I've figured out that the pattern of the cloth was stamped as you're doing here and then painted over with translucent egg tempera paint. It's incredibly complex and sophisticated, but basically exactly what you're doing here; creating a 3D texture with stamp. I didn't think of getting a nail set for this. Getting hold of the stamps is difficult. The Russian iconographers still use the decorative stamps but one can't get things out of Russia these days. Sometimes artisanal book binders have them, but I don't know where they get them. Anyway, this was extremely helpful.

Yes normally do, but the saw is ment to have a air blower thing attached but don't have that. So I kept having to blow the dust away so I could see where to cut. But still should have done.

What’s the green material on your wood block?

Baize cloth, like you see on a snooker table

@@RuthTappinGilder thanks. Just looked up baize and learned some wonderful things. I suspect my Dad’s army blanket (circa 1950) may be made of it. Seems like it’d be great for sewing up a long-lasting coat.
