No matter if you veggie - or a meat boooi, you have to love a pasta - from Daniel Bloodwooorth. And then comes Kyle - with his sick little tune, my mind is getting higher - am I on the moon?! I have only respect - and love for you guys you fill me up with joy - and sometimes diet advice.

Sean Actually in this context there isn't much that distinguishes nihilism and realism (or in Kyle's case what I think would be classed as material or "naïve realism" - that life is pretty much only what you see). You can be a realist or a nihilist and still think there is a way to live a best life (eg. Enjoy it while you can), it's just that neither can refer to a power outside of our experience to justify it (eg. God). The only real difference that would apply in this case is that nihilists believe that life is not understandable because the universe is absurd and humans only see it from a limited sensory perspective, while a (naïve or material) realist will hold that there is a fundamental order to the universe that can be revealed with the proper tools. An interesting caveat is that you could be a nihilist and believe in God, but think that they are indifferent and have no role to play in human lives (which is where we start to get into some real Lovecraftian shit).

There is a difference between naive realism, realism, materialism, absurdism, and nihilism. Nihilist wouldn't subscribe to any "best" life as that means it has inherent value, same with attributing value in belief in any concept like god (I personally think the term "nihilism" is contradictory). As for the realsims they can all break down into pretty specific epistemic approaches so generalizing them here doesn't do much. A lot of these terms get thrown around too much without people really understanding them. Also @Blindly Fumblin, looks like you are a kayak enthusiast, I am an avid white water rafter so just wondering which river that is.

Oh sure Young Werther, I meant to speak generally, in the context of neither Kyle or Ian thinking there's no greater purpose to life. I was taking a stab at what Kyle's particular brand of realism might be, but you're right that generalising too much gets pretty sticky. And I meant that an individual nihilist might have their own philosophy on how to live their best life, but think it has absolutely no greater meaning, or be applicable to anyone else. Also speaking from ~8yr old memories of undergrad philosophy, so please excuse any inaccuracies. Oh and that's the Indian Arm, in Vancouver. Not the wildest spot in the world, but definitely picturesque. I'm not much of a serious kayaker, but I try to get out a couple times every summer.

All of these are so amazing. Don makes a great A Tribe Called Quest reference with his mic check; Bloodworth's rap really reminds me of Run DMC and had an amazing call out to Ian; and Kyle's rap has great lyrics, composition, and flow. This turned out better than I could have ever imagined.
