One thing no one talks about is their camera work. They utilize it so well in selling attack impacts and ultimates. For example with Ember, without her Core active the camera shakes super subtly but when it's active it shakes much more prominently but not to the point it gets distracting. Another one is Verity and Hypnos when their Core activates the camera goes into this tunnel vision effect. And probably the best implementation for me personally is Rosetta's ult. I just love how towards the second half of her ult it zooms in to simulate her first person perspective. Her ult is very simple but man that camera work trickery is just _chef kiss_

The thing they've also done great is the diverse set of characters and the fact that you don't need big booba waifus to get players going but even husbandos with unique attack pattern and amazing mechanic that made them stand out. Next, the fact the they made the first set of villains as playable characters as Transcendent(Of course except Gabriel, that piece of garbage) and that's already amazing thing for me. Especially, when Roland has his trailer (in the server I'm playing at) the hype was real man. And don't forget that pulling for any Transcendent you want only cost 10 pulls. They're really generous. And then considering the story mode, of course it may not have any impact to some of you but the first time I've experience taking control of some of the bosses in hard mode I really feel excited then I thought, "Holy sheeesh, that's new to me! What the hell is that health?! Too OP!" I never thought I'll be that excited over letting us be in control of it. I might be spoiling your next video and I'm sorry for that.

As much as I love the waifus, yes, the husbandos are really great too. Kuro is pretty inclusive on that front bc they leave the Commandant gender-neutral. As someone who played stuff like DMC3SE-5, Assault Spy, Gunvolt 1-2, Katana Zero, and literally any game... That specifically needs me to observe and adapt while doing actions quick during a fight. I couldn't help but smile at PGR being a thing, it was a godsend among all mobile games. While it has its flaws, one thing it does best is its COMBAT, I mean: Parrying? Ping orbs? Limited evasions? Counter skills and finishing skills? On paper... It may seem like it's just another Gacha game, but it knew what it means to have depth, fun and passion. It knew what adaptive and fast-paced action players desire. To learn and evade the patterns of our foes, to strike when the time was right, to parry a strike, to parry when another strikes, to make use of what we have. These things are what make Kuro (Developer) stand out amongst many mobile and Gacha games, people can shallowly laugh at it for the fact that the Global Launch was notoriously a god damn b¡tch (Oh boy am I glad I didn't play at Launch.) But the facts now of what Punishing Gray Raven is? It's a peak action mobile Gacha game, and that will never change.

@@NoanIsHere Okay let me tell you all the launch problems. In CN the first launch was a big mistake. Stupid mistake tbh lol. At launch if you got the game the first few hours the game came out you would get 10,000 bc as a reward. This was a mistake it was supposed to be 1000 bc (lol). So they put the game on maintenance and changed it back to 1000. Even so, there was a huge problem. The people who got the 10,000 bc still has it. So basically the people who waited to play the game felt left out. So they gave everyone a free S rank selector. This one Imo was really bad because the people who got the game on launch still got both. Now the global version is the one that’s not that bad. The only bad things that happened to global was the 1 dollar extra, karenina skin costing a lot when CN doesn’t even have that skin, and lastly CN getting a little bit extra for the beginner missions but why does that matter when global can still get alpha f2p guaranteed.

@@NoanIsHere Plus you wanna know why it’s 1 dollar extra. It’s because google play and Apple Pay services. Kuro has to pay extra for transactions so they increase the price. So many mobile games don't play to the strengths of the platform, and just try to 100% immitate console/PC games. That's why I think the ping system in PGR is just so refreshing. It actually makes more sense using touchscreen than with traditional controls. I do use a Razer Naga controller when playing for basic attacks, dodging, movement, and camera controls... but even then, I still use the touchscreen for pinging, QTEs, and signatures. I honestly couldn't see myself playing it any other way tbh. It just works so well, and is so satisfying!

That’s one of the best reviews I’ve seen about the game, appreciate the effort and thought you put into it. New channel, new sub! It isn’t high on most people’s list of reasons they play PGR (it goes 1: Gameplay and 2: OST) but personally I feel that the story, while less expansive, is better than Genshin’s, and almost as good as Honkai’s; perhaps even better with future updates. Sure, there’s a lot more to unpack in Genshin due to the non-linearity of its world-building, but the interludes, side stories, and everything post-chapter 8 in PGR feel more personal to me. Unfortunately, most of the content is presented visual-novel style which, coupled with some localization errors, can be a turn off for those who prefer the abundance of animated cutscenes from Mihoyo’s IPs. Like you said, it also takes a while before it really gets going. A shame, really, because there are more than a few occasions where I get misty-eyed, especially from the side stories.

Absolutely agree. I'm a newbie in global and still have a single chapter left until the Luna chapter. The visual-novel style hurts the story for me as well. It sure helps but majority of the time, I felt like being bombarded by hundred-words essays specially in the beginning. I think adding at least, voice acting could make it better. But I decided to read nevertheless because I was genuinely intrigued by the narrative. Also agree that the story is better than Genshin.

Warzone is where all the 3 pings, core passives, and skills really are good for practicing how to master the combat system. Then babel is where you exceed your limitations and surpass the previous skills. It's where I learned a lot more about conservations, timing dodges/3 pings, core passive activations, and also when to use the ult. PGR far exceeds all that is in a gacha game, because it's a bonus to far surpass your current skill levels. I love pgr even though it becomes very stale at the end game. But babel really does tests your skills.

Wow this review is awesome man, a lot of reasons you loved this game are the same as a lot of mine as well. Some additional things I love about this game includes them actually caring about character balance, and how every character is super awesome to play (whereas in genshin there are characters whose gameplay range from super good like itto to clunky af like yae miko) Another thing I love is how they encourage players to get and build as many characters as possible with their extremely f2p friendly model and multiple team endgame modes like Babel and Norman. While in genshin pyro dps like yoimiya can be redundant because spiral abyss only requires two teams of four, these modes reward you for having as many teams as possible. So dark Watanabe doesn't feel redundant even with Luna for instance

When i first installed Pgr 1 month after it's global release it got me confused abt it's combat mechanics you'll need to have muscle memory to master enemys attack patterns(especially roland that mf annoys me with his surprise attacks) And not only that! they're giving you a free S rank construct of your own choice is an awesome way to start playing the game, i picked Karenina Ember in my main account and Lee Entropy in my second account. As for the story I'd say it's great thought the early chapters kinda bores me but in the middle part where kamui got infected by roland whichs leads to Camu's existence(well it's based on my understanding, correct me if I'm wrong) thats where the things became interesting in the story. the bgm in Pgr is absolute top tier i can't choose which my fav of all of them. And yeah the downside for me is the serum regeneration. it's production is too slow if you only clear stage in the stories then it's good but doing other stuff like clearing interludes,some stages in events,grinding in resources cost alot of serum they could've atlease limit the serum capacity to 250-300 that way players can really enjoy to do other stuff cuz grinding for 6 star memory is a whole pain.

Im planning on doing reviews like this on a lot of different games in the future, mixed in with easier to edit videos because this one took forever. To be honest, half of the reason i made this was to convince my friends to play pgr lol.

I honestly detest gacha games but Ofcourse Pgr being an exemption. I waited for it to be released in global and got into it on the very first day it was released. And I can say that I never grew tired of it and I'm still playing up until now. The combat mechanics most especially the matrix and core passives are my favourites, and what I truly tried to master. I remember struggling to do the perfect dodge on the first month of playing but now I can say that I mastered it somehow. It's just so rewarding that I can do the perfect dodge oftentimes just by listening to the attack prompt of the enemies, which is so satisfying. And the game is f2p players friendly, so I got to collect most of the characters at each event.

Really cool review! The ping system is huge. Really puts a unique spin on the hack n slash action game genre that makes me expect more from these type of games now. Adding to the negatives is the serum... I really love this game but the amount of serum we get is abysmal. I want to play and grind PGR all day but I can’t and I’m limited to malding in WZ or messing around in the 0 serum memory rescue challenge events and I’m not even sure if memory rescue will be a permanent feature. In another mobile game I play there are so many ways to gain serum and there’s even a VIP system where big spenders will recover the serum equivalent faster, resulting in being able to have a good few hours of a grinding session. To add to the positives the characters and coatings are amazing. PGR has a wonderful taste in character and moveset design and I’m always willing to spend ridiculous amounts of money just to get new cosmetics for my favorite characters. I currently own every character except for S Lee! I love them all. To comment on the first statement about gacha games being cash grabs sure most are but the advantage gacha and f2p games have over AAA games is that their shelf life is indefinite and content just keeps flowing whereas when you finish a regular game you’re done with it.

While this may not at all be a Review or anything like that, more like a love letter to PGR, i do want to address my own responses to your video, as being few months a player of the game myself (a general new player perspective, i guess). So, sorry if this looks like meaningless comment dumping, or a decent textwall, but i am glad i have come to reflect on my experiences with the game, due to this video. again, thank you very much! Pros about PGR: > The gameplay is absolute fire as you said. It's not like some gacha games that may look boring and uninteresting to someone that is just watching the game being played, without understanding the mechanics and appreciating the player's playstyle/talent, this is both flashy, complex and glamourous. absolute amazing, and like 30% of why i really wanted to play PGR myself (seeing pro-Wanshi players just solo bosses was the final straw lol) > The music. enough said. Actually 70% the reason for wanting to play PGR (to me). Rarely ever does a piece of media have this consistently great music in all it's OST size. > There's a lot to do in PGR, and events/side content occasionally swap, letting a breath of fresh air from time to time. aside from that WZ and PPC are always there, so a player does not get bored. this is great way to keep the players from not being bored or bummed out (although i have issues, later stated) > The game is not at all grindy if you know what you are doing and only want to progress to the basics of everything (though that usually doesn't involved getting a lot of rewards for your efforts). I really like this aspect about PGR, as it feels genuinely Free-to-Play in that regard. Both content and character collection wise. Pity counters are decently high, and even goes as far as guaranteed during events, gacha are neatly separated into Weapon and character (WHICH IS A HUGE PAIN IN THE GACHA COMMUNITY), and aside from the starter A/B rank constructs, almost everyone has not direct upgrade, everyone is still relevant in a squad setup (aided by the not as huge character roster.. yet) They do it much better than it's sister HI3, with the alters of charcters sometimes just feeling like a polished up ver. of the original character and just thrown in the game. They all have very distinctive feeling to them, and i love it!! (like my personal favourite examples of this, is the two Watanabes'. Both feel just so different from one another, even aside from the elemental attribute standpoint) Cons about PGR: > My primary complaint about PGR, is the amount of time you need to spend with it a day, if you actually want to make an effort to progress further than the basics. This is fairly true for many gachas already, (and while i myself used to hate gacha games before.... before i played a certain game called Arknights :] ), it sometimes creeps into FGO levels of painful, during certain events. Aside from draining the daily serum, which is super quick to do now because of Auto-ing, there is WZ, that you can honestly do just twice a week and forget about, but if you want a better consistent reward, you need keep an eye on, to make sure demotion doesn't happens. then there's PPC, with the daily 4/8 Stamina uses, on boss rotations per week, that may or may not be painfully slow or just utterly boring to keep fighting, due to some bs they get at lower floors.... like poison, even if it doesn't thematically fit the boss itself (yes yes, auto clear is a thing, but the points loss is too much to succumb to, at the lower floors). Then we have the Maze (now truncated) with the stamina meter too, Norman (event based) with it;s daily stamina charge stacking, whatever the event specific minigame might be, which also needs it's own daily time investment to do.... and if you care about it, dormitory missions. That is a lot of timesink, padded with unnecessary menu navigation and clicking (this is coming off of someone who held at one point, upto 8 accounts on Arknights simultaneously... and does dorm management X_X). Overall, it might be good for the student with short bursts of break/class/study sessions, with some time to play inbetween, but for someone who might, say, have a strenuous working life (and may or may not play more than 1 gacha), that is quite the time investment.... PER DAY mind you. i do wish your need for participation was not this intricate per day, and more or less spread between a week, so still keep on top of things and progress to a pleasant PGR standpoint. Yes, the point of WZ/PPC is challenging you and pitting you with other players, but pile all of it together, and you get a constant steady brain drain of doing things to the point of sometimes annoyance (i more or less left PPC after a point, because of the daily headache). You are missing out a lot if you dont have a constant participation going on each week/day, and that additive loss hursts, especially if F2P with a mindset of not being very casual about the game. > The 2nd thing is, something i'd argue about your observation on the gacha aspect of the game. While yes, the pity system is nice and the gacha is serviceable.... and you can even avoid most of the gacha headaches if you dont want to reach for the high rank/numbers in the weekly leaderboards in various modes..... You should have still pointed out that comparatively to many other gachas, earning pull currency is fairly slow in PGR. Sure it may only be 60 pulls for a guarantee onbanner in the event banners, bu that 60 pulls take a long time to save. even a 10 pull can take a while to collect. It strikes a balance for the F2P to hold, but it still means that the Gacha pain is still there very much so, just in a different flavour. In other games, you would need like 100+ pulls to not even get the onbanner (F though), while here, you can't even 60 Pulls back to back because the low pull savings in a short period, especially with the almost back to back events we're getting in Global (or whaling, but that's.... gacha staple) > Something else i actually dislike is the amount of information overload when starting the game. both in-combat and off-combat. there is so much things constantly happening, pages popping up and locked pages, with the clarifications not doing a great job of explaining how things works. Even the tutorial doesn't really "end" because you arent really always told what you need to do to unlock more stuff/gameplay sections, and they themselves are very wordy, often mixing up lore with the help guides. It really devolves into blindly clicking on several pages, and being confused with the new source of information overload, or stare at a notification that state that "you need to clear XX to unlock this", yet you can't reach that node, because you still haven't unlocked YY stage, things that the game should be more clear about. (an example being, several of the high numbered resource stages being locked behind story progression, and you would be mistaken to assume that you would just unlock them by completing the previous stage, but noooo... or the fact you have no idea how many promotions you can actually give your characters, until you do it the whole way that first time) Thankfully they help it somewhat with the Newbie mission page, that points on what you should do, but they should really redo the tutorial of the game, it feels overwhelming. Just directing players to the info page doesn't always help with realizing what you are supposed to end up doing in any specific page. You really need a community/friend who can guide you through the game... unless you want to make some really bad 'account damage' worthy mistakes starting out in PGR, which is funny, because you actually have the resources to do that right as you start the game, which is something not usual in other gachas. Whew! that was my spiel laid out bare, but make no mistake. i absolutely LOVE and ADORE this game! I just knew that i HAD to play it, after several of folk in my own community were regular players of it, and being a huge music appreciator, i can't ignore it. I do my best to take whatever time of the day i can spare in my tired and addled brain and body (usually due to work pressure) to do as much as i can everyday, and it's super worth it still. i would say like a 9.5/10. This game solidified my stance on gacha games in general... that... "They are not all just virtual gambling simulators". Both PGR and AK are some of the best games i have ever come across. And i see that steady rise in sub count. Goodluck to you, hopefully you can afford a better headset soon and stay safe 👍
@tempust3942 жыл бұрын
I may respond with a longer reply later because I only really skimmed this comment lol, but thanks for the response. The reason I didnt mention the slow gain is because it still is enough for a f2p to get all the s ranks, and a lot of people i know are used to genshin and honkai where that isnt possible. Genshin also has some really slow income as well, slower than pgr in endgame imo.

@@tempust394 oh i know that audioset pain, the amount of takes i sometimes had to discard because of weird reverb or random background noises :( but true, it's still very f2p friendly in that regard, just i may have been spoiled by gachas that demand a little less of your daily time everyday, so it feels even more painful to recieve a slow income for what feels like 15mins to 45 mins minimum a day spent doing the same thing everyday... more if there is an event ongoing.

As much as the gameplay is fun I hesitate to recommend this game because of how hard it is for new players. The game is not new player friendly at all despite all the rewards they give it's still a struggle to form and build a coordinated team, The gameplay is only really fun if you're a long time player but for a starter the bosses can be frustrating, I struggled a lot when I was starting I barely finish the Pain Cage since they have system that only makes you use one character 5 times as a starting player you'll focus on one attacker type of hero, also how even the weapon depends on RNG. If you want to check it out be ready for a really hard grinding and bring patience as well cuz you have to wait for rewards to come.

One of the interesting things about of the Orb system, its an awful system on early game since u cant have any control of the system at all and u are just using 1 character on the field vs on late game when all urs characters have gear and if u are fucked with the RNG u just swap to the tank or support. Thats why on the Wuthering waves debate (next kuro games game) some people that tried PGR dont want the orb system because of the RNG, but people that are hardcore or at least played pgr with 1 full team really want the orb system on wuthering waves because we know it gives a fast and seamless action gameplay.
@tempust3942 жыл бұрын
I am going to have to disagree a bit here. I think having access to matrix and how relatively fast you gain orbs makes it fine, otherwise solo runs wouldn't be as popular as they are.
@NeDixTV2 жыл бұрын
@@tempust394 u have to think, the solo run like rexlent one are with weapon with 2 or full reso, reso gives access to few extra skill like more orb every few second or more stamina dodge. Except few characters that can kinda handle low orb gameplay with good rng, like veritas theres a lot of character that are complete screw without orb like alpha, plume, kamui tenebrion and others. I mean just think at the "support" character they are design to go to field and do something not just qte. Kuro has design everything to the combat feel smoth.

yep, there's no game that is perfect and somehow everygame will always have a downside. the downside of this game is it focuses on combat, and so it can't be open world, and so they need to use a system that is balanced enough for the game which is the SERUM system. because every character is so well designed I'm assuming the content gets robbed by some of the budget.
