Can you get 533 heavy duty cranks and the stuff to build 800cc+ rephase. Or are they just not around? Also the heavy duty transmission gears from the 750s etc. I would love to build a 840ish 277 with a 256 rephased cam and a 533 crank. Is that even possible. I wish Yamaha would make the best parts for this. 533 crank and rods, wide dog slider gears and the heavy duty kickstart gears. And a wide spread 3rd - 4th and an OD 5th. What is cool is I heard a guy riding a 750 cc long rod engine 277 decent pipes and BS38 carbs with some better gearing and he was just out walking the dog up and around relaxed the tach going up to 6500 but it wasn’t making a racket. It was a reground 256 cam like the one on my XS2 I had 40 years ago. It was a 360 degree, but they just had a relaxed beautiful ride. That’s what I want. How come the 533 crank wasn’t used in the US?

GunFun ZS BTW I came because I love a niche bike, the KZ650, and 3 or so years ago you put up a video of a hacked up bike that was everything that makes me cry, with a battery eliminator kit. I looked the video back up a few days ago to show a friend who wante to to that to his KZ I have helped him with. Now, I see your current work and am very impressed. Way to grow. your shop kid does more beautiful work than I could ever hope to. Way cool.

Hugh, What's the advantage of a rephased engine? Just curious.
@areyouavinalaff7 жыл бұрын
the rephased engine's more balanced and efficient because both pistons don't ride up and down next to each other any more, it vibrates less and operates more like a more modern inline 4 insofar as each piston takes it's turn getting to the top of the stroke rather than all getting to the top at the same time.. so you get better torque also. yamaha would have done it themselves if they could do the ignition for it at the time.

hey does rephasing the xs650 give it any better power/torque?
@Longrangetargets10 жыл бұрын
I will tell you this...it decreases vibration: Big time.
@statingthe_obvious630910 жыл бұрын
basically the energy which goes into making it vibrate is lost power. consider modern 4 cylinder engines, none of their pistons rise and fall in unison, they're all somewhat out of phase to give smooth running and more torque. if it didn't then most car engines would have phases like a stock xs. whenever one piston is at tdc or bdc it's always better to have the others somewhere mid stroke so motion isn't impeded. would be nice to have some dyno results to show the difference.
