Another thing to consider as to why Abe? He's humble. He would never abuse the power of Shrykul and just wants to live a quiet life. Meaning he's not a hero likely to go rogue, but rather one that will easily enter a time of peace the moment violence is no longer needed.

if you think about it, the alternate timeline only occurs if Big Face slaps Abe too hard. In the new timeline he slapped Abe more gently and it set in motion the events of Soulstorm, in the original timeline he patted Abe too hard, which lead him to see the ghosts and set in motion Exoddus. It all came down to Big Face's pat on the back and reaction to the fart.

It's amazing just how important a character Big Face is in Oddworld. Hes easily one of the most important characters to the Oddworld story and I think certainly one of the most memorable thanks to his iconic mask design!

I’m glad the shamin we saw in the beginning of Soulstorm probably isn’t Bigface. For him to get a drastic redesign and make his first appearance since Exoddus, only for him to be unceremoniously killed off during the fire would have been a pretty huge slap to the face as a fan of the character. It does make me wonder what happened to Bigface and the other shamins after the raid on Mosaic Lines. I hate to think they and Bigface perished, but losing one of the last safe havens for spiritual figures like them must have been even worse. Maybe in part 3 of the quintology, we could have a side plot explaining what happened to Bigface and the other surviving shamins. Maybe the raid confirmed the native shamins bias towards Abe as him being a factory born mud who would bring nothing but trouble to them and go into hiding. Maybe Bigface, after losing his sacred lands and possibly even his wooden mask in the flames, splits from the other shamins, becoming a nomad in search of the factory muds that were lost in the raid, and helping those in need he would happen to come across. Eventually reuniting with Abe, Alf and Toby. I imagine the reunion being a bittersweet one, with Abe seeing his old master and the one mudokon who had faith in him as the messiah, but seeing him at his lowest point with his home and the spiritual grounds he watched over destroyed, the mask that was a core part of his identity gone and now outcasted from the other shamins. I dont know, I’m just going off on some fanfic-y ramblings here... 😅

I always thought the shaman from Soulstorm was supposed to be big face(a new mask so that he can sit down) but that shaman is very elderly with a head full of feathers, not only that but their personalities is very different. Big face has a sense of humor and patiently gently guides Abe but that shaman is demanding Abe grow up NOW OR IT WILL BE ALL FOR NAUGHT. They're two different characters and I'm just wondering what happened to big face

Is there some lore about possession in Oddworld? Is it something every mudokon can do? Or just Abe? Is it something mudokons can learn or is it something you get from birth? This has puzzled me for a long time.

I remember Alf clarified that technically all the Mudokons have the ability, but it's something they have to train to do. Alf stated that there are Mudokon monks that have dedicated their entire lives to only be able to lift a feather, but Abe is completely a natural being able to possess full bodies effortlessly.

As the person before me commented, I do believe all the mudokons have the capacity for it--due to how mudokons work in Soulstorm, where any one following him is able to add to his chant to boost its duration. And it would explain while the factories and surrounding areas have chant suppressors everywhere--as the people enslaving them are aware of their potential to chant/possess and are afraid of it.

So Abe is like a Moses figure for the Mudokans. One of the reasons why the Hebrews were kept in the desert for a generation is that the original ones to leave Egypt wanted to return, finding comfort in the familiarity of their slavery, like Stockholm’s syndrome, but Moses who had lived at the highest position a Hebrew could have dreamed to have had seen the suffering of his people and God used him as he understood the horrors being afflicted and knew both the Egyptians and Hebrew’s minds.

I really hope we get a final conclusion to the new story of Oddworld. In Exoddus it kinda ended on a cliff hanger but it made me realize that it's gonna be a never ending struggle to save people but it was on an inspiring note. The new one had more info and now made me want to see their mom and the story of Abe's stitched mouth. I do hope, before 2026, we get a new game with a satisfying conclusion.

The differences can be factored by two words altered timeline the future aid may have different things because he was forced to in his timeline to go through things like that image of a falling off that cliff hitting a bunch of things on the way down and not knowing how to move metaphorically speaking while current timeline Abe is literally avoiding the worst ends thanks to his future version of himself.

I think he made the Big Face mask himself and it's somewhat of test of his abilities as an artisan that can mimic old odd mudokon religious arts, most of what he does is inscribe magic brands and teach Abe how to use them. I also think he's a skilled mystic but has very little power that he can tap into compared to Abe and the reason why he never channels Shrykull is because he dosn't have the power to do so even though he knows how

but what if you time traveled before your death? hypothetical: outside observer checks some "heavenly terminal" or something and in some form witnesses or is aware of your death, which then sorta opens the "scope of destiny" that could allow a "previous" you to do something different than what lead to your death on the "original timeline" i have no idea how time or anything really works, this idea is just based on the whole "you can only know a particles speed or location, not both" where death and current existence/life are the 2 sides of the coin and some outside observer is the one "checking in on the experiment" which determines the "flip"

the problem with the "bigface being abe from the future" is that if it is abe then how did he survive the fall the first time? In the cutscene Abe explained that bigface said he was dead and revived him. So if Abe died from the fall then how would he save himself in the past if he's ya know....dead?

The "Industrialized" Mudokons don't appear to have that feather on their heads. In fact, in the game, only Mudokons with that feather can perform the Chant. But in the cut scenes... everyone can. Maybe in the game, it's to better distinguish Abe from the slaves and the design change is purely for the benifit of the player.
