As an autistic person who immediately gets treated differently when people know my diagnosis, yes! We are all just people. Also, how terrible is it that people say "the person is mentally at this and this (younger) age" and then use it as an excuse to treat them without respect for their mind or body? As though children do not deserve respect either. (Saying someone is at a mentally younger age is a problem in and of itself, but I have no energy to go into that😂)

I had three brothers and no sisters. My eldest and younger brother were both mentally challenged and the youngest was autistic and also nonverbal. It used to upset me that people would talk louder and overly animated. Some would stand away and ignore them. They never came to our house.. Sometimes our close relatives would cry. I learned very young to be patient with the adults as they were heart broken. My one brother and I were patient but we also were siblings and decided very young to treat them like normal siblings which meant an occasional argument. Proper sharing was something we not only had to remind the boys about but also the adults who would let them do and take what they wanted, break whatever they wanted, and WE would get blamed, not them. The youngest would take food off of our plates with his hands and eat. We had to just take it. We could never have friends over. Then I saw the "Miracle Worker" where teacher Anne Sullivan taught the out of control child, deaf, nonverbal, and blind girl Helen Keller, how to stay seated, only eat her food and to use utensils. I then made a plea with my family to teach my brother. I led the way. At first my grandparents thought I was mad but my parents supported me and it worked! Our lives changed very much. Not perfect but so much better and my brothers were eventually so much more socialized and actually happier! I grew up and became a Special Education teacher then a Social Worker. I adored my brothers; they taught me about life!

Agreed. I have been diagnosed with level 1 high-functioning autism and My family breeds havanese dogs. One puppy my mom wanted to keep because she was a chocolate dog(rare gene where they have a brown nose and light eyes) and was in the last litter of opal who is nearing retirement. But this puppy always had milk come out of her nose and couldn't eat enough, so we tube fed her every two hours. Now she can't eat anything bigger than a piece of kibble without choking, and hacks a little after she ears or drinks, but otherwise plays and acts like a normal happy puppy. She is one year old now and is not going to be a breeder because mom is worried about her not being able to eat enough during a pregnancy. But we are keeping her because she is my incredibly sweet little potato named cinnamon. She will snuggle up to me for hours( which is unusual for havanese females, usually the males want to be on you while females want to be next to you) she is the best dog ever. So glad I saved her. She will come and snuggle especially if I'm angry or sad. Thx for reading my fife paragraph essay lol.

I agree. I am sorry about your experiences. I work with individuals who have mental disabilities. Some are nonverbal, some have physical disabilities. That is so true. Many doctors are just go, go, go and don't take the time needed to truly include the primary patient. As a teen, the doctor would ask a question and direct it to me. I learned to turn my head toward my mother and even the thickest doctor would eventually get it and address my mother. When I became a Social Worker working with cognitively aware, physically handicapped people, I did the same thing. I only intervened when the patient would ask me to do so. I was not going to do what doctors kept trying to do to my mother.

I had rotties before. If mama instead of nipping her pup into behaving, she attacks her pup to the point of mishaping the skull, arm and tail then it's a mama that shouldn't be a mama at all. Rotties when bred right are gentle giants that will only show case their power when absolutely necessary. Teaching a pup proper behavior is far from needing to show that level of aggression.
@testerwulf3357
@testerwulf3357 2 жыл бұрын
@@prcervi If she attacks her pups, that's a sign of bad temperament which is NOT wanted in breeding..even when the pups suckle a bit hard dogs don't normally full on attack and hurt their pups, that's not ok and should not be allowed, she shouldn't be bred. You should only breed calm dogs, never ones who snap like that especially to that degree. It's not natural for an animal to attack their young like this, correcting absolutely but attacking never..it's kinda counterproductive to the whole natural need to spread your genes.

I hope that poor chewy doesn't have a congenital defect of some kind. The mother may have attacked him because she sensed something was wrong - this sadly happens sometimes with dogs and all other animals as a survival instinct. Luckily Chewy's x-rays look good and he seems to be in good health. The only other reason I could think of for a dam to attack her puppy would be that she was a first time mother and her maternal instincts hadn't really kicked in yet.

I tube fed her every two hours and now she is a happy little girl who makes weird noises.)a puppy who has a condition and her mother never even tried to nip her, and still fed her. And this mother is not afraid to scold her kids. Although 3 breeding females doesn't count for all dogs. But your theory, in my experience, is false for havanese fogs. Maybe not other breeds or other animals. The mothers will eat their stillborns and dead puppies. Only someone who loves their dog would understand that having a yard completely re-landscaped by a professional landscaper is the most obvious solution if your dog has a tendency to play with and then swallow rocks. We have just been going through the process of buying a new house, and while we actually found several we loved, we decided against them mainly due to our dog and her needs. Even so, the house we did decide on had to have landscapers in as the first upgrade we did as a section of the backyard was terraced, and while not terribly hard on humans getting around it, our dog has had some issues with hind leg muscles and tendons and ligaments, so we thought leaping up and down fairly significant terraces could be a problem as did her vet. Not to deny her access to a part of the yard, we decided that the terraces had to go, and that section graded into a gentle incline prior to us moving in. While some people may think that extremely odd, those who have a dog who is a proper family member totally understand.

Unfortunately many dogs are bred irresponsibly and have issues like this ( I'm not saying your dog was bred irresponsibly , I don't know) the only way to get rid of this is to check out breeders and never buy dogs from pet stores (no reputable breeder would sell to a pet store) people should keep their breeding and pet dogs like we keep our breeders and pet, near us where they get attention, water always available, regular meals, and walked often. Unfortunately many breeders don't do this and keep their dogs outside with no attention, cheap (usually not very healthy) food, not enough food, water not constantly available, send the puppies away before they are 11 weeks old, don't care about what genetic deformities their dogs have and continue passing them on,and leave their dogs with no regular vet checkups to ensure healthy breeders and pups.

I love Elvis the croc. He's been on quite a few episodes. He's a handsome boy. Yep, he was happy with his meal, and gave a little burp too. (Jan Griffiths).

I'm so happy that all is well with Chewy, for his sake and the family as well. Rotties are often portrayed as such terrible dogs, usually they're such sweet animals.🐾🐾🐾💕🥰

From an autistic person, animals are so important in my life. They don’t obsess over social cues like humans do, they’re pretty straight forward despite being unable to speak.

I use to have a golden Lab, who chewed thru our sky cable 3 times, then we found out that he had also started on the power cable, no matter how, we blocked each entrance to under the house, she always found a way in, her mother also had bitten her in the eye, so she was blind in that eye, she would totally ignore my husbands, commands, until I backed him up, she would just look at him; as if to say " who do you think you are ?"

My puppy got attacked by his own mother when he was a day old. Thankfully he didn't have any lasting health issues but his mother ate his brother alive and he was next. It's weird how mother dogs do that sometimes to their own kin

Yea it happens..normally it's horrible genetics, dogs with a temperament like that shouldn't be bred; once they turn on their pups it's time to stop breeding that one.

My cat beheaded one of her kittens and I had a huge trauma about why she did such atrocity. She had 6 babies killing one of them. It was her only pregnancy. I got her fixed after finding homes for the babies but I noticed she has not been the same after I got her fixed. She still look for her babies.

Labs seem invincible. My grandparents had a lab who was very old and the only indication he was sick was he left half his breakfast behind. Opened his mouth when he was on a walk with me and yup he had some dental disease and his mouth was drooling a bunch. Took him to the vet and they discussed euthanasia due to the fact they didn't want to put a 13 year old dog who was already declining through dental surgery. It was only near the very end where he broke his cheery everything is fine demeanour. Went to see him the day he was being put down and he was such a different dog than the one I saw a few days before. He wasn't eating much due to dental disease, didn't want to eat his arthritis meds or treats because his mouth hurt and he was really thrown down and just not okay. I think they made the best decision possible. Whereas I step on my border collie and he acts as if the world is ending. Border collies are big big dramatic babies who ham up any little misfortune they happen upon so they get extra love. Labs are so calm and steadfast in comparison but I love my theatre kid. He's so dramatic and silly and makes a big deal out of a lot of minor things. Falls off a table being a thief? Pretend to have a limp for an hour because it gets him out of trouble. Gets caught in a door? Banshee. Jump off a cliff because I asked you to wait and you wanted to defy me because you're a teenager? Ignore my attempts to get you to safety and instead play dumb and drink sea water and run away. Then panic when I leave to get help and then shake and act like I left you in a burning building for the next 30 minutes. Even though you know what recall is, know what stay means and we were playing fetch before dumb teenager brain decided to jump off a cliff because of course human doesn't know better than me. Border collies are second in dramatics to huskies.

Labs are a lot like cats in the fact they usually never show signs of weakness or pain, they continue to act like normal, so when they're acting funny or in pain somethings is seriously wrong! I remember I thought my boyfriend's mom's cat was acting/looking kinda funny..he was a bit bloated but I though maybe it was just fat (I didn't know it before so hard to judge) so when it started struggling to pee and was seriously acting off they took him to the vet only to find out he had severe kidney stones and was utterly full of piss, his bladder was HUGE and that's why he looked so round. Thankfully he recovered well, he was very sore after and even got neutered; he'd struggle to get down from places as it hurt to land so when ever I was over I would help lift him up and down from places along with tons of gentle rubs. My boyfriend also happens to own a black lab, seen that dog run into things, ram itself into a door, or simply wag it's tail hard repeatedly hitting a wall..nothing phased it, it was all smiles and goofy. I sometimes wonder why labs are so tough, or maybe it's just that most other dogs are dramatic, hard to tell.

How the hell does the breeder not know what happened to Chewy? The mother and pups are under the breeders care which was obviously sorely lacking as it doesn’t seem that any medical help was sort when it happened if the breeder is so clueless.
