Thank you for this video and all the tips! I’ve been seeing some comments online negatively judging who’s getting a puppy now as if we are not considering life after the pandemics. Of course we are! Or at least I am!! But we are also home right now and that extra home time can be extremely useful for welcoming a puppy and - as you mention - crate training. On top of that, this coming year will most likely be a “no traveling abroad” year for many, which is also more time at home for house training. I do hope all the other new-pet-parents out there have a game plan for what’s coming after and enjoy the most of these unusual times for training! 🐾

If there’s any single blessing from this pandemic for me is a confirmation that time with family is one of the most important things. Jasper is my commitment to reducing the pace of the rat race. He’s a lovable 18 months and my only immediate family. Living in an apartment complex has created opportunities for us to interact with the local children that are left unsupervised outside. They love to pet him and hunger for attention and responsibility. I’ve allowed them to walk him while providing some guidance. I thank God for bringing him into my life and hope you have great success. Stay safe.

Scenario: my 9 week old puppy wakes me up in the morning at 5:30am to say she needs to do her business. I let her outside, then put her back in her pen/crate until I’ve had time to get her breakfast and everything else ready for the day. She immediately starts whining when I leave the room. But I can’t wait until she stops whining because she’s hungry and not been exercised yet (unfair right?) so I “start from scratch” every morning because I’m not letting her cry it out!? She’s good at going to sleep in her crate, but as soon as she’s awake she’s screaming and scratching for attention if no one is in the room. She doesn’t tend to play in her pen even with loads of toys as she just whines to get out. I need to sort it, Help!

I have a 8 weeks puppy also. She is crate trained. But every morning she cried when we wake up to feed her. What I do is I ignored her, don’t even look at her till she stop. Eventually she will stop the crying and lay down quietly. That when you take her out to feed her. But make sure she’s sit on command before letting her out. Been working for a few days now. Hope that work. Oh I took her out to peep and poop before I feed her. Than 10mins later I take her out to pee again

Jasper is a chihuahua mostly and came to me from a private animal rescue at 18 months old as my emotional support animal. Do the puppy training videos work the same for young adults as for puppies? I’m a combat veteran with my own anxiety issues. He’s got lots of issues I presume are from his previous need for eyes- and hands-on attention, plus a new home environment. Into the first week I was nearing my limit, especially with the need to be right there with me-which helped and hurt me and him. His anxiety with being in his wired crate and smaller plastic crate (for sleeping) produces Hypermobility and breathing. The larger crate allows more roaming anxiety that ends up with diarrhea and pee everywhere, which has severely challenged me with thoughts he might be better off with someone else. However, I truly believe we are meant to rescue and love each other. He’s a lot like a baby, wanting to be picked up all the time, which I have resorted to creating opportunities for him to challenge himself by jumping into and out of the truck. He’s unlike the puppy Yorkie and other older dogs I use to have. That’s why I’ve got to learn a new strategy with your videos. Plus, I cannot seem to watch them fast enough, which is another stressor for me. I just have to consciously practice my breathing techniques. Hopefully, everything will eventually work out. Thanks Michelle from 🐕 Jasper and Dennis.

I left my puppy once for 10 minutes and she peed in the crate out of fear and was barking like crazy. Haven't left her since, ONLY because I live in an apartment ant don't want to get in trouble with noise.. In 3 weeks i'm moving to a house so I can work on crate training more thoroughly.. I don't mind the whining/barking as much as the peeing in the crate out of fear . Hopefully it works out! She's good sleeping in her crate at night however

Can we prevent seperation anxiety without use of a crate? Even when the pandemic isn't going on i am home almost all the time as I am disabled. We don't really have the space to crate train and don't really want to but I want to make sure my doggy is OK to be alone in times where she does need to be left alone for short amounts of time. (I havnt got a pup yet just planning ahead) . Can you do the same thing but without the crate? For example having them in the kitchen with a stair gate so they can still see you at first and then slowly building up time and eventually shutting the door?

Also he will be a pretty big dog so I am trying to make sure he gets over his biting stage before he is too big and it will really hurt.

@mollyoxy 4 жыл бұрын
Erik MJ my 8 week old puppy did this too, she is now 10 weeks old and still does it from time to time but A LOT less. Just keep trying to re-direct, try using different toys and even treats/kibble. Also, make sure you’re re-directing your pup to do something else like sit. Otherwise, your pup will think you’re rewarding the biting. If he still doesn’t stop, put yourself in a position where he can’t get to your pants even if that means leaving the room or leaving the play pen if you have one set up. Just keep up with it every time and your puppy will learn. Hope this helps and good luck!

But now I’m trying to get him use to the play pen and kennel and he will cry for an hour or so without even stopping. What do I do? Still let him cry? I’ve had him for 5 days already at least before getting the pen so he’s use to being with me 24/7. I had to run an errand today and was gone for over an hour as well and when I returned I heard him still crying outside of my apartment.😥

It is definitely possible to work full time when you have a puppy, but the first few months might take some creative problem solving on your part! As you can see from the sample schedule in the New Puppy Starter Kit, puppies have a lot of needs! Puppies can hold their bladder approximately an hour per month of age, so you’ll have to arrange for someone to take him or her out for potty breaks. But puppies also have needs for human engagement, enrichment, mental and physical exercise and of course… cuddling! As they grow they can be left home alone (always in the crate) for increasing periods when you are away at work. But for the first few months - even up to a year - you’ll likely need some additional help from friends or family to meet all of their needs. We have a great video on puppy schedules, as well as what to expect during the first year of a puppy’s life. Those two will be great resources for you as you plan! If you’ll be working from home, we have a great one on that topic too! Puppy Schedules: kzbin.info/www/bejne/baW5e4aYmK19jNk What to Expect the First Year: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZrGYnx9greYipo

Maybe like when you are in the house and put him in crate with the treat has him going in , practice few min a day , then gradually extend the time , so he get used to the crate and adding on closing door of the crate adding on leave the house for 5 min and then 10 min etc . if you're complaining about the price, you can adopt a dog for cheap, but the vet fees are still very expensive.

Why keep the poor puppy/dog 🐶 in a crate? That’s so messed up. Maybe behind a closed barrier but a crate? Trapped in there? That’s cruel. How about you try sitting in a small crate for 6-8 hours.

Using a crate is an essential part of raising and training a puppy. When used correctly with the proper training, crates are like cribs or playpens for babies and toddlers. They are used to keep your pup safe and out of trouble, a place for rest or downtime, and are great for a reset or time out. Crates are never used as punishment; “bad dog” [SLAM the door closed]- that’s not what we do when your puppy is getting on your nerves or getting into trouble. Instead, your puppy needs to have a positive association with their crate.

don't get a puppy if you are incapable of training. dogs should be licenced.

we are getting our puppy next weekend but i will be going back to work 3 days a week and I cannot return in the day to let him out, what do you suggest we do since with social distancing we can't have a friend or puppy sitter over? we have a crate a pen ready for him but there won't be anyone home for ~ 8hrs 3 days a week

deannasun hi. I work 2 days a week 9-10 hours a day and my puppy was fine. I did everything she said. Especially leaving him in his crate/pen for a few hours a day every day after exercise or play (I would go out or go into a different room) at first he whined for a couple of minutes but quickly settled. I always made sure on the days I worked that I got up earlier than I used to so I could play with or exercise my dog for about 45 mins to an hour before I put him back in the crate and left for work. I also never made a fuss of leaving. I just walked out the room when I left like normal. However, he wasn’t just in a crate. His crate was left open into a little play pen area with his water and a couple of toys so he could sleep or play with his toys if he wanted to which I trained him to do by playing in the pen with him. Because I work long hours on those two days and have no one to help out on those two days, I knew he wouldn’t be able to hold it in for that long so I made him a fake grass pee potty. I bought a small piece of fake grass on amazon and a crate base from Amazon. I put a pee pad in the crate base with the fake grass on top. He quickly learnt to use his fake grass area. We don’t mind having to change the pee pad every other day. When we are home he will go in the garden or sometimes on the fake grass. We have a cat litter in the house already and don’t really see the difference, it’s no big deal to us. Of course, this is a personal choice. My chihuahua is very good at being left alone. He is also left alone over night in his crate/pen in the front room for about 8 hours and he never whines or barks. I did sleep in the front room with him the first two nights as he was only eight weeks old (not sure if I should have done that but it turned out okay, I think it just showed him that this was his new home and I was there to take care of him). He is a lovely affectionate, happy and confident dog. I hope this helps.

@@nupurgupta9210 he's a rollercoaster because it's hard to keep him on a schedule, some days i work 4hrs and some days i work 6-8hours and no one is home to let him out. some days he does really well and others he wines and barks for 2 hrs :( it's also really hard to get him potty trained for the same reason
