I did the "softy..softy approach" day one with my 2 month old Bully, thank Christ he never cried in the crate, but I started him out in my room a couple of nights, then to the entry way, then in the hallway, now I have him down the hall where he can't see me at night. It worked, no barking or crying at night, he sleeps well.

Did your puppy not pee in the crate over night?
@AnnerzDrum Жыл бұрын
Currently doing the tough love approach. I got my Puppy yesterday and stayed with her in the living room the 1st night. I made sure to put a sign on my door to inform my neighbors that she will be making noise and to bare with me till she learns to stop. Today I personally went to my neighbor to remind them and ask if they can hear anything. They told me no so that's a great sign that my building has some good sound proofing. 👌🏿 🎉

When I was a nurse, I met another nurse who worked in the neonatal ICU. I asked how she coped with dying infants every day- I'm no softy, but that would literally break me. She just shrugged and said "honestly I just never really liked babies that much. I don’t see them as full people yet and I think it's a lot sadder when an older child or adult with a fully developed personality dies." It's a weird answer but it makes sense and it applies to a lot of these jobs. I've done hospice care and I don't find it very sad when someone has a good death, well cared for and surrounded by loving people, after a long life. It’s not like "la la la, pass the chips" but I rarely ever "took the work home". Basically some people are just weirdly suited to certain roles. Will is obviously a wonderful dude but I think his depression allows him to detach a little bit and it let's him approach puppies in a more rational way that achieves better results for them.

Don't laugh....! I didn't put my first puppy's crate beside my bed: I put my bed beside the crate! I slept on the kitchen floor for about a week, and gradually crept away when he settled. Yep. It worked. 😊

This is a great video! I'm doing most of these things with my 8 week old Bernadoodle, so a lot of this was reassurance that I'm doing it right. It did, however, highlight for me a couple of areas I need to do better at! One being taking her out every hour, on the hour, and the other being utilizing feeding time as a training tool. Will start those both tomorrow, when we wake up! Thanks, Will!

I’m in Australia and just had to say goodbye to my 9 year old Cavalier King Charles, Ruby, a month ago. I decided to get 2 siblings, 1 because I’m home 24/7 so can spend the time to train them & my chosen breeder isn’t breeding anymore. Ruby was a dream puppy, took herself for a nap in her crate from day 1 (never been crated before), very little accidents and the only thing she “destroyed” was the corners of the couch cushions. I am a softy but I know raising 2 siblings is going to be a challenge and hard work but I am willing to put in the time and effort and I know they will reward me with their unconditional love!

Hi! I have a 4 months old deaf puppy (smooth foxterier). Learned her some gesture commands, for example to sit by raising my hand up etc, but still have some problems with walking out. If she sees something interesting (for example an other dog, and it's worth noting that she has so good sight that she sees them from quite a distance) she does the opposite of pulling, she just stops like a stone and will stay this way as long as the dog goes off her sight. She's very well socialized, meets other dogs regularly, but still when she sees one in the distance she will just stop, observe and nothing can possibly get her attention. Maybe you would like to cover that topic in one of your videos? (sorry for any mistakies, english is not my first language)

@ephajanke32422 жыл бұрын
Should they occur? They will. He said it already, every hour. At least every two hours. How should a puppy hold it the whole night? Do you exspect that from a baby? Do you wanna let it sit in his own piss and shit? Do you change a diaper after 8 hours? No. Do you leave a young puppy unsupervised for this long hours? No. Too much for you. Don´t get a dog.

I mean I know you have a year old pup by now but the answer is yes, it's fine. If it's an area frequented by many dogs, especially without shots, then it would be more dangerous. Wild animal droppings should be removed though. They should stay out of any flower beds esp with roses since the thorns and other things can harbor in those. Just an answer for someone else in the future.

Dogs originally were DEN animals. They can be very happy going to their den (crate) and enjoying a nap or sleepy time there! It’s not a punishment, it’s a safe place for them! air they do something you don’t like, don’t put them in their crate because they’ll have a negative view of it.
