Are you a fan of my training style, but can’t travel to Kentucky to see me in person? No worries! I offer an awesome online dog training course, which includes access to an array of exclusive videos and content, personalized coaching, journaling, and in-depth mentoring and evaluation by yours truly! If you just need some an advice or have a couple questions you need answered, I also offer professional consulting by the hour. Both of these great services can be found here: www.kentuckycanine.com Thank you all for your remarkable support over the years! I cannot express enough how grateful I am for your appreciation and patronage of this channel, my training style, and my kennel. Always remember, it’s a great day for a puppy-sized adventure!

I think one of the best lessons here is how you just paused and allowed the pup to process and learn, then choosing to come to you for guidance/help. That's one troop of GOOD dogs right there.

Watching all that the dogs do and how you interact is very helpful. Grouchy has to get out of the boat... just like kids. The enthusiastic one who is in the way gets gently picked up and moved. The attentive obedient one gets a treat... sometimes. They all learn calm, sooner for some than others...so much going on all around. I learn from every video. Thanks

This is so interesting to me. I walk my dog in a city park early every day and because the days are getting light much earlier the squirrels are out and about when we walk. My dog has decided he doesn’t want to leave when I do and he ‘hides’ from me and won’t come when I call him at the exit. The most successful strategy to date is kind of what you did with getting the puppy out of the pool. I leave the park and sit on a bench just outside and he realizes he doesn’t actually want to be in the park by himself so he comes straight up to me and waits for me to put on the leash - teenagers!!

Love it! So well explained and logical! I grew up Running around and just playing with my Dad's hunting dogs in Rual Canada. They absolutely learned to pay attention to us , basic manners and had fun hanging out. No dogs or kids were lost or harmed ( much) in the process, lol

If you have a dog who LOVES to play then you have a very trainable dog. This will vary greatly from dog to dog, depending on their temperament but you can do things to kind of maximize their potential. It is also very VERY wise to kind of toggle in and out of play and training and play and training. All sorts of good things flow from that and it is where people fall short.

Help! Where can I find a lot of other dogs to work around? All the other KZbin trainers say never go to the Dog Parks.

Stonnie, what are your thoughts on hand feeding as a part of early training? I got an ACD a couple of years ago and was concerned about their tendency to bite and nip, so for the first several months I only fed her by hand while doing impulse control and basic obedience training (also did a lot of socialization). She’s never attempted to bite anyone or any other dogs so I think it worked….but I may have just gotten lucky with a good dog.

Like a lot of things, it works great if implemented with patience, consistency, and persistence!

My second dog had to learn old. They didn't teach him much before he came to me, and I was adamant to have him make up for lost time. He had no control over his back legs, they were just kinda stumbling along behind him. He fell down stairs, into a puddle that was twice as deep as he was tall, he even ran full speed into a tree. I mean, you can't teach a dog not to run into a tree. Most dogs you don't have to though 😂

Stonnie what is your preferred treats? I love how you say that they need to learn by their mistakes which builds confidence and a solid dog. I am a trainer at a local dog club and most folks like to micromanage their dogs and I pretty much tell them the same thing you say.Thank you
