Thanks! After I made this video I saw youtube algorithms not happy with the length of the video :( So they hid lowered the views to all my other videos, so I might just release the tips together in a 10 min video to make yt happy... Sigh. Its hard when you think something is a really great video and then it gets hidden cause it doesnt go with the algorithms.

Taking turns is something we're working on here! So this was very timely. And I love too see you working with "untrained" dogs that act more like mine do! When I see a trained dog do something (a dog that is "perfect" and doesn't make a mistake), and then I see my own dogs make mistakes I think I am doing something wrong and that I just can't train. Seeing that your dogs also make mistakes during the training process is really helpful and helps me continue on without giving up in frustration because I'm assuming I really stink at training.
@kikopup3 жыл бұрын
Another thing I do is use an extremely high rate of reinforcement so Ill even give a treat for an error then make the next trial easier for the dog so the dog will have success. I bet if you went through where I am just training and not talking and counted how many treats I give to the dog, then watch a video where the dog looks all over the place of someone elses on youtube, you will see that they are not giving as much reinforcement as me and that is why the dog looks well behaved.

I loved your comment in the other video about the pup's instinct to herd. Oddly, I have never thought about this with my little border, and he blocks me often. Now I know how to get him used to walking beside me more when in the house...I love picking up little things like that from you. Thank you!! Your new pup is unbelievably perfect, by the way too cute!

Oh this is so much better than what I was trying to do, thank you! Myself and my family have a 4mo and a 6mo puppy and it's been hard to cash in on everyday training opportunities when they both want each other's treats! If I start to work on the 4mo old, the 6mo old offers all of her trick behaviours and goes "okay, that's my treat now!" 😂

Little Epic is acting more mature and seems to have gained some adult weight. Just an observation for others who might not think about it: working with a small breed dog along with a larger breed puppy, it's really easy to overfeed treats to the little one.
@kikopup3 жыл бұрын
Lol I gained some "adult weight" too! Actually she was in heat before I got the puppy and then a false pregnancy so her teats were very large, they are finally going down. She could be a little skinnier though, but I will reduce food later when she's all done.

really enjoying these videos! my dog has some anxiety and became possessive over me as his owner, now he’s showing some agressive behavior toward our other dog and family members when I’m around. Great vid as always! I have to ask though... How many dogs do you have now?! Seven? Eight? Not a criticism at all, they are all very well trained and obviously well loved and cared for. The more the merrier! I am curious to know though if each dog has a job/purpose? Is there a "goal" with each new pup (like a dog sport or skill etc.) or is it just adding to a happy family? I would definitely be interested to know if each has a specialized training regimen dedicated to a specific sport/skill, or if they are all generalists.

these dogs are awesome and Emily is an extraordinary trainer! Is it me or Epic avoids bearing weight on her rear right leg? 🐕
@kikopup3 жыл бұрын
Perhaps, but It could also be that she has the same issue as kiko, her hocks hyperextend so sometimes one or the other leg will be overly strait or even inverted...She also had a right knee that is worse than the left for luxating patella.

Hi Emily, We had quite a scare with Lucy our corgi 8 month old. We were at a park and Lucy quite possibly ate a cigarette butt or two. I did not see her get it and about an hour after we were there she started acting drunk and couldn’t hold herself up. All our local vets were at capacity and we had to take her home. She is mostly back to normal now thank goodness. But if you have any tips on keeping puppies from picking up anything off the ground, man that would be so helpful. I am blaming myself since I had our 3 year old daughter and the dog so I couldn’t pay attention to everything and poor Lucy paid the price.

Sometimes putting the old dog in the pen can help to reinforce the young one for good choices when out and about then when they are loose together you can go strait to working on settles on beds near eachother before they think to interact

Hello 😃 How would you train a new and old dog when the old dog has pancreatitis? Theoretically, my old dog should not get treats as he cannot digest fat and protein.

I suggest giving the old dog his diet when needed, wet food or kibble and do the majority of training when the old dog is on a walk or vice versa.

Any tips for tackling this if you only have one dog? My pup is not bad at home but awful when ‘friends’ are around she is dreadful.
@kikopup3 жыл бұрын
Begin with them settling on mats at a distance they are comfortable, mark every time your friends dog gets a treat. Get a trainer who uses positive reinforcement to help you if need be. Perhaps they have some calm demo dogs to use.
@lisahind96133 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't it be alot easier to use the puppies names as you give them treats? I've got two dogs, who sit and wait for their turn, giving paw when their names are used for a treat
@kikopup3 жыл бұрын
You can do that, but if you are training lots of double dog behaviors, or you have 7 dogs like me, saying the name takes up time. And also for if something drops on the floor or they are all eating their dinners, this exercise helps- if you see a dog getting a treat its not for you.
@lisahind96133 жыл бұрын
@@kikopup works if people have alot of dogs, maybe suggest using names to your followers? I've had to take the precaution of teaching mine not to eat off the floor, we get lot of slugs and snails in England, that are toxic, as we all know dogs are inquisitive and pick things up during walks. We've also had incidents across the country with some nasty people leaving food in dog walking areas laced with rat poison, nails and razor blades.
