I honestly like the Pur jars design over Ball. I like that they have less graphics on them and one side that's completely bare as I makes putting labels or writing on the jar easy. Plain and simple, as a consumer I will buy the product that feels superior to me. I have noticed Ball lids are superior and interchangeable so I still use those lids/rings.

I did buy the Pur jars because that was all I could find at the time. I did not notice they were made in China. If I had, I would not have bought them. I did can with them one time and more than 1/2 of my lids did not seal. I am a newer canner but have never had a problem with lids sealing before. That being said, a short time later, I did find some Ball jars and bought those. When I opened them up, all the lids where bent and unusable. I am guessing they have been rushing to get jars out and the quality has suffered. Heres to hoping things get back to normal soon.

So I bought 10 cases of pints at our local Ollies store yesterday for nine dollars a case. Most stores jars are 14$ and up for the same size. I read up yesterday that most jars manufactured are made in China. Needless to say you are correct. Most jars used in the United States are made in China. I would post the link, but I know a lot of sites don’t allow that anymore. If I can find the title, I’ll come back and let you know what it was. And y’all can research on your own. Title of the article is. Where are Pur canning jars manufactured. FYI: I’m canning corn in mind today. I’ll come back and let you know how it went.

I used the Pur jars to can peaches and none of them sealed. Looking at the lids they were missing the red rubber around the underside of the lid. My Ace Hardware seems to have stock of jars, Pur, Ball, and Anchor Hocking when everyone else is out. I could have returned them but they were full of peaches and it was just easier to slap some Ball lids on them Damage control. I went in again but this time I tore open a corner so I could look at the lid and it was missing the seal. I brought this to their attention. Manager not there but was assured the message would get to management. I did buy some jars but I got Ball instead. I like the shape of the jars. I have commented on other channels about this same thing. I think you may be right, they were just kranking them out and their quality control slipped. Didn't notice made in China.

But seems you had no problem with that, either Our Ace Hardware laid in a supply of Purs, too. I'm not feeling it

Are they truly square jars? Odd that the rings tarnished first use. I would pull the pur rings off and allocate them strictly for vacuum sealed jars. Like you, I have a ton of rings! True test of the lids will come from long term storage to see if the seals hold. Kudos to Ace for at least trying to supply the masses with jars. When I saw that they were made in China, I did not buy them. Their track record is sometimes not good. Who knows? Their lids may unseal in a few days or weeks. They could be leaching lead in your food, etc. You don't know. They have found lead in many Chinese goods. Their dog food has killed pets. They brought on the pandemic, so I just could not buy them. If I have a choice, I would always go with USA made, but I know some people (and in some situations) you don't have a choice. To each his/her own, though, you are right. One commenter said that all jars are made in China, and that is NOT true. I live between two towns that make jars and lids and rings, totally in the USA. I love your canning recipes, though.
