Thanks for the video! I had never replaced the filter in my Pur - of course I tried to remove it from the top and it’s impossible. I was feeling pretty dumb. Yes, it may be simple but I didn’t even think of loosening it from the bottom 😳 I was envisioning throwing the whole pitcher out from frustration until your video rescued me

I bought the middle version of that and had my water tested. It really does a great job. Lead wasn't picked up in the test but directly from my sink there was some minor lead particles readings, very minor. I drink Spring water and filter that but for making coffee I use this brand by Pur.

I got a jar next to the sink. Every time I refill my water bottle or make coffee, i fill the jar and put it in the pitcher to filter. I don't like putting the pitcher in the sink because it sets the countertop.

Anyone know how long these filters REALLY "last" or how long they continue to filter out the things we don't want to drink with our water??. I can easily read the recommendation on the box label or look at the blinking light on the cover of the pitcher but what is the actual criteria for an end of life determination of the filter? I believe PUR tries to calculate a replacement interval based on volume of water that flows through the filter (40 gallons on my model: "premium 2 stage filter"). It is in the best financial interest of the filter mfg/seller to have you purchase new filters as frequently as they can reasonably sell them to you. In theory, a filter remains functional until it gets clogged up to the point where the out flow rate of the filtered liquid no longer keeps up with the demand rate needed. I suppose it can be further limited if the filter is also adding something "good" to the water that flows out. I'm not aware of anything being added to the water by the these filters so flow rate required seems to be the only factor that would determine when the filter needs to be replaced. When I fill my water pitcher and put it in the fridge, I don't generally go back to it for an hour or more. But even with a filter that has filtered much more than 40 gallons, the flow rate is such that all the water has passed through the filter within 5 minutes. So is useful life of the filter only determined by how quickly YOU need the water to flow through it? If it filters the water in an hour then I am ok with it and it is still useful for me. Or are there other factors of health and safety and taste that wear out with time or volume of water passed through? The water coming in to my house is drinkable as it is already with no sediments or undesirable taste/smell. I only filter it for drinking. I drink a lot of water and my filters last (continuing flowing at an acceptable rate) for a long time. I've never thrown one in the trash due to low flow rate. I've just disposed of them because I know I've gone 10 times longer than the mfg recommendation. Anybody with some real science background have an opinion on this?

Filters up to 40 Gal./640 8 oz. cups per filter, lasts up to 2 months
@timhardman47644 жыл бұрын
@@anjellakazarova8628 I typically use them for more than 4 or 5 months filtering 1/2 Gallon per day, 15 Gallons/mo., 60 -75 gallons after 4 - 5 months. The filter is still working fine after this amount of time. As long as I am comfortable with the flow rate of the filter is it still safe to continue using it for as long as I want?
