Call me crazy but if the game can't visually keep up with the green window then maybe they should either expand it or come up with a new shooting system. Games should not show you something visually and give you a different result. We've all visually greened shots where the game says we didn't and it's pretty lame.

I did an experiment where i shot with my meter on just to see if i was actually mistiming my shot and 2k made me miss 2 full bars. That was so frustrating 😪. Like reward me for my good timing. That makes me believe that 2k purposely makes me miss to keep my shooting percentage in check. Which is dumb

What game doesn’t rely on rng results? Literally every game even the competitive ones have crucial rng mechanics that can affect the outcome of the game. It’s how they reduce the skill gap to maintain new players.

really its more like a couple different systems that work together and do a ton of math and take all the variables into account behind the scenes to get percentages for the likelihood of an outcome. Taking that out turned it from chances and percentages to just yes or no which in practice actually makes the game feel more random

I think people forget that defensive badges like challenger can remove your "green window" entirely if the person has a good enough contest rating.

I believe 2k is 60-tick and 60fps on multiplayer. Actions online & in-game can only take place on these 16.6667 ms increments. The server has no clue if you only timed your jump-shot 601 vs 602 ms because it doesn’t ask. It only knows 600(~36/60) vs 616(~37/60). If you time it 601 ms it will count as 616. I’m pretty sure that’s why 2k labs struggled to find the “pure green window”. If you look at tmac green window it’s highest around 535-550, which is actually just tick 33, 533ms(32/60) and 550ms(33/60). The problem is that when you time a jumpshot exactly 540 milliseconds it might start the next frame in 1 ms or it might take 16.65 ms to start. So there is a chance a 540 ms jumpshot gets counted as a 516ms(31/60)-533(32/60)ms depending on how close or far away you are from the next tick.

I have been missing full bar floaters on opens with an 87 layup!! The contest registers as 'open' but they usually look somewhat contested, where a defender 'flies' by with a hand.

Gonna sound crazy but go to streetball and when you do layups tap L2 or LT (it’ll stop the meter in the green) Takes some time to learn in Rec and other Online modes but Try it out and LMK how you feel .!

Every single shot should be marketable for it to be as realistic as possible because that’s how it is in real life. People hit some crazy contested shots. Don’t show the full meter full if it’s not gonna go in. Change the shooting system if this isn’t the case.

It was gone already in season 3 man, now only certain shot selections and animations are pure. I spent a whole month and figured out the perfect animation combination for me, every shot animation for me has pure green window, Left fade Right fade Front fade, Step back Spin shot, it will go in no matter the contest as long as I time it right ( full bar ). Some fucked up animations will not have a pure green window, like my pure Trey Burke jumpshot on push que, on a 20%+ contest, even I full bar it, it shows very late/early. However, I change it to early que, it is pure, but not big. So 2K forced me to abandon my jumpshot that I've been using for 7 years. Every jumpshot that has a pure green window has a limit. like Allen Iverson on push has one of the biggest pure green window I have found so far, the pure green window is big enough to green up to 89% contested shots with no takeover. Curry base Nash 45% Maxey 55%, can green up to something around 55% contested. Once the contest is over 60% it bricks even on a full bar. And Some other jumpshot that has no pure green window at all, will not let you hit any red contest and limitless shots, for yellow contest it depends on your ratings and badges. For fade animations, its about your upper release, for example like Trey Burke release on Early, it is pure on Pro2 Left Fade, Right Fade, Back Fade. On Booker fade, only the right fade is Pure. If I change my release to Allen Iverson Push release, Booker fade left Fade will also be Pure. And limitless range shots will never have pure green window without heat check now, back in season 1&2 I can hit from back court on 80 three without take. I don't know why I'm revealing all my secret of shooting animations, I just want to blame 2K for making the jumpshot creation this complicated and important, I miss the old days where I can just put on my favourite jumpshot and green everything cuz I spent time and mastered the timing. Now to green everything I don't need practice, instead I have to spend time on labbing different jumpshot combination, thats fucked up 2K.

For that particular example, I believe Mike Wang mentioned, that it is possible to hit any shot that is not 100% contested, meaning that if it was 100% contested, even with the most perfect timing, you couldn't make it

Games broken is what you’re seeing. If you’re playing great defense and have hands up in their face when they try to shoot you either get no contest or a small contest. But if you’re 5 feet away and jump at them you’ll get a red contest. It makes zero sense

No u don't understand mate. That shot yes was 100% covered but in real life every shooter will tell you it's open. U can't see him as ur in the air and his hand dousnt even cover your face.. this is why ghost contests will never go away. Someone who is 10 feet away can contest u well after u jumped for the shot

None of this matters I shoot over 65% with a 65 3 balland hit all types of contested shots. Its all about your shooting stats and jumper. If yoy have at least an 88 middy go with Malcom brogden base Kobe uppper 70% Demar derozen lower 30% Learn the timing and thank me later!!

Anyway, yes a wide open shot goes in 100% but before you freak out you need to realize in current nba 2k 90% of the shots a high iq player takes are open.. I will be lowering this down to 50% against any defender with good basketball iq. The only time RNG comes in is when both the offensive player and the defensive player failed to make the highest iq play. If either one of them makes what is considered the highest iq play they will be rewarded.

I really wish content creators just shamed 2K’s developers for this awful gameplay instead of using math equations to try to justify the nonsense that happens in 2K. For example, Your player caught the ball while the defender had both feet in the paint, there’s no physical way a human would be able to contest that shot.. logically as a defender, it would make better sense to just box out and hope for a miss shot. But no, this trash game is going to reward the defense for playing bad because that fake contest, caused the player to miss the green window by a millisecond.
