Great video - thanks. The other end of the cable uses the same bushing. My recommendation for anyone doing this fix is to buy 3 bushings. One for the broken end, one for the other end and one for the tool kit you carry.

Ben, thanks for this video. It saved me while in vacation from a lot of “I am screwed” thoughts. FWIW - my 2008 wrangler JK unlimited 4dr had the brass bushing with retaining clip at the console end. I “prayed” up the console to take a look and it was secure. It was the plastic bushing at the T-Case that was gone. This video made replacement a snap (pun intended). Although it was hard to get leverage to insert the bushing into the cable, eventually got it. And Success! Thanks again….muchly appreciated 👍

I was stuck in 4L for a three day offroading event in Southern Missouri but at least not neutral like you were. I trailered the JK from Houston, so got it home today and just ordered a 2 pack from Amazon which will be here Tuesday. Hopefully, I can make it look as easy as you did.

You're welcome mate, funny comment i was on vacation in Montana last year (also in a hire wrangler) when the winter snow hit one month earlier than expected and I remember saying to my missus how much worse it would have been for this part brake to break out in here in the snow haha. Hope you got it sorted in the field.

I got a 2011 Automatic 2D sport and this just happened me. This saved me a tow. My only issue was finding the dam thing, it so well hidden on mine it’s nearly impossible. I still need to lift it and replace the part with added security so it doesn’t happen again.

haha i remember a few things when I did this (its been a few years). - I could not see what I was doing. - I was laying right underneath the car - It was very awkward. Only other thing I can say is, if you're car is Left Hand drive, things may be a different spot to what you see potentially as this is RHD car (Australia).

Great video quality. A couple of points- it might not be obvious but keep in mind in the second part of the video shows the cable above the pin, when in fact the cable sits lateral [to the outside of the nub] and you will hear it snap inside the cable end and when seated on the nub. Also when diagnosing the 4WD light on the dash does not illuminate.

What is the name of the blue-green plastic part above your hand at 1:45? I thought I had lost the bushing but it turns out the whole push cable assembly had slipped out of the frame bracket there. I thought the metal bracket had broken but it looks like I'm just missing that little 3/4 circle plastic piece..

Hey mate, I can half answer you here. I also bought those clips but did not need them. They are CHEAP only a few dollars. I do not sadly remember the name as I have now sold the vehicle and passed the invoice and spare parts to the new owner. I would guarantee if you went to your jeep dealer and ordered the part mentioned above, this would be nearby on a parts list. Otherwise bring a screenshot in from this video and that might help them. Perhaps someone else reading this might know the part number.

I'm even more impressed with our jeep now because of how it handled the tracks without 4WD and I didn't have to ring a mate to drag me out.... 😂 I just zip tied the link back onto the transfer case but the shifter is still loose..... @1scooterpilot17 жыл бұрын
Good video; however, it begs the question why would Jeep use plastic? Over time it will get brittle and break like yours did. Manufactures cut corners anyway the can to save a penny. That penny can mean we're struck in the middle of no where over a $1.50 part. I'd rather pay an extra $40.00 or $50.00 an have metal turn buckle . Because it's Jeep, I bet there are aftermarket kits that do away with the plastic.

Cheers, absolutely I thought the same thing when I got stung. I found some aftermarket options, but just ended up buying a bunch of these parts and leaving them in the glove box so I could get back onto the road quicker. Cheers

My brother did some research after he and I both had the issue. Apparently it's an intentional weak point in the system so that the more crucial and expensive parts on both ends of it don't get damaged by being forced into gear. Intentional but still an annoying fix to deal with.

I’ve never owned a vehicle that cost so much and barely gets driven have so many little annoying god damned problems! If it’s not one thing, it’s another! Jeeps are pieces of SHIT! How many years do you have to make the same model to get it right?
@BenCad4 жыл бұрын
Glad it helped, sorry to hear its another strike on the list for you. My Jeep was fairly reliable besides this. but yeah this one hurts. Especially depending on where and when it breaks for you. I think for me, (i have since sold this Jeep) that I would make it a thing and I would have that part replaced every year or two. Its the kind of part that deteriorates and goes brittle over time regardless of use. For the odd $1-$3 it costs for the part its some good piece of mind. As well as keeping a few spaces in the glove box and a few cable ties just in case! Cheers
@ThePROFESS10NAL4 жыл бұрын
Ben Cad I plan to buy a few for the future when I locate them. Yes, I have been underwhelmed with my Jeep since I purchased it. It’s way overpriced for the quality and the JK was on the market for 7 years before I bought mine. Most manufacturers get the bugs out in under 3 years. That’s on top of how simplistic the Jeep is and even changes from model to model aren’t very drastic. I have a Toyota Tundra that has 160K miles on it and I absolutely terrorize it during the work week and it’s a champ! Never fails me! Anyway, thank you very much for the video. It will be helpful to me when it warms up and I get some time to pull things apart.
