Well presented and spoken. My sentiments exactly. Years ago I bought a 964 over a later model purely for that more mechanical experience (and that air cooled engine). Your PlayStation analogy is a good one IMHO. Is it really all about squeezing out the fastest changes? For most sports car owners, surely this is less of a concern than achieving that sublime mechanical driving connection (thinks Caterham), or at least one would hope. Anyway - nice vid, subbed and cheers from Australia - Dave (I will disagree on one point - my non-RS 964 had a soul and always gave a special driving experience - at least for me) :)

Great video. I own a 997 gt3 and know exactly how you felt in the video. Such a wonderful analog experience. About to watch your e46 M3 video which I also own. That was my first dream car and have owned it for 12 years. Such a great all around usable car (My Daily). The GT3 took over for the next dream when it came out. I am still smiling going on 4 years. It could in all fairness have an extra 100HP and would be perfect. A 4.0 engine upgrade will be in my future one day. Until then the stock power is addicting and enough to get into trouble. I recently picked up a 993 c4s and finally get the romance of an air cooled Porsche. Slow, but so much fun to drive and not feel like I am going to get into trouble. Out of the three - the 993 gets the most thumbs up and people wanting to buy it. All three are 6 speeds and will hold off as long as I can with manual cars. I absolutely love rowing the gears and being one with the car. The next dream car on the list is the 458 speciale, but unfortunately its not manual - :-(. Keep up the videos!!! I sub'd and looking forward to your next one.

Nice Video. We drive in Summer a little , old, fast C-AMG with automatic Gearbox. They where sold only with automatic. It can be shiftet manual. So it is a Crossover. It is nice for longer travel and driving in Towns, and if you buy it used , you know no one before had driven the Car with to much RPM. September we drive in Netherlands.

Like your opinion on manual cars. :) Everyone thesedays can drive cars fast with pdk, smg, dsg, with traction controls etc. Give them an old manual where is no autorev match and let them make a fast lap. In track when you are going really fast on the edge, make a downshift from 5 to 4 or from 4 to 3 doesn't matter but if you are especially with RWD car, equipped with limited slip diff with manual gearbox and on hard braking, you can't just drop a gear, you will lock your rear wheels and will end up spinning or crashing into bariers. Thats why people are using heel & toe, not becouse we read it in magazin " oh if you are a real petrolhead you need to do an heel & toe, becouse Ayrton Senna done this. " We do it becouse it helps you to go fast with not loosing a car, and your life. So people who havent experienced how rewarding is when you are going flat out and turn is coming in 100 meters, you are on hard braking same time dropping a gear from 4 to 3 speed reduces from 180kmh to 120kmh car is just about to slide but you turn with max possible speed without spinning or sliding in max rpm getting out of the corner... With pdk, smg, dsg an others all this drama would be just a klick of a button. nothing more. So people from computer or simulator can just go to porsche and go. With manual you really need to know your stuff its much more dangerous to make a mistake. Thats why its much more rewarding !

I've driven many different generation GT3s and while the PDK is faster I'm not Schumacher or Röhrl so I don't care. The manual speaks to me not just on the track but also in back roads on Sunday mornings. Very good review ;) danke schön :)

Luckily Porsche brought the manual back with the new GT3. They thought that only a few purists would opt for it but they admitted that they were shocked by the amount of customers who ordered their new car with a stick shift. Apparently it's 50% PDK and 50% manual.

Very difficult to choose. 2 quite different cars. The GT3RS is better, more fun at the track if you go for solid laptimes and sharp handling. The R8 is a better “allrounder” and more fun whenever you want to fool around, play with the car. And I definitely prefer the V10 engine, that thing is just great!!💪👌 I would go for the R8 and then trade it for a GT3RS after about a year or two. And/or the other way around..😁

I have PDK which is new to me, and honestly I REALLY miss my manual shifting and clutching... I don't feel at one with car with PDK. :/

Only reason why I ended up with PDK is because I was told at dealership that Porsche no longer makes manual. So, I bought it with PDK. But as much as I love my 991 I don't feel at one with it like I have all my other cars who were manuals. I hope manual survives. It's the only way to drive, I believe.

I have to admit you can't. Just googled it / Rennlist etc. There is a lot of discussion around it and in the heat of the moment I sometimes shifted back one gear too many, next to creating a lot of noise and giving me a heart attack apparently nothing can happen. Lesson learned.

Nice video. That 997 GT3 is great in manual. I drive my daily car an M235i manual shifter with limited slip differential and I tell you honestly the manual shifting gets old and tiring. On the track you’re mostly in third or fourth gear unless you go to a fast track. On the weekend I love driving my 991.1 gt3 with PDK and never thought I wanted it in manual. I wanted to get the newest tech because I felt that I have been using old tech manual cars for so long. In my opinion, just my opinion, there is nothing digital about the 991. What does “feel digital” mean anyway? To me it’s one of the best that Porsche has ever made.

skrads Thanks! The M235i is also such a great car. Good choice!💪👊 I do understand your point completely. In the end it is all personal what you prefer, manual or not. And after many years driving a manual, I get it that you want something else (faster, more efficient etc..). And the PDK is one of the best automatic/paddle-shift gearboxes out there.👌 Well, what I mean with “feel digital” is that I do feel a difference between electrically assisted power steering and hydraulic. Also this is personal favor of course. The 991 feels (for me) too good, too refined..Do you know what I mean? It sounds crazy, because you are right; The 991 is one of the best Porsches ever made. Technologicly for sure the best! But personally I prefer to feel more drama in a car. And the 991 is just too smooth. But on the other hand, is also the fastest because it is sooo good and refined. So like I said, in the end it comes down to personal favor. PS. I am jealous (in a good way!😉👌) of your GT3!
