Purging a Clone? Hear Me Out

For clones, my motor builder just has me tear the motor apart and clean the carb each time. For the Predator we run the motor out of gas after each race night, then drain the oil. When at home I tear it down and clean the carb and everything on the motor.

Our engine builder mentioned using WD-40 to purge. I have not tried it yet because I wasn't sure exactly how it is done. I am planning on getting him to walk me through the process this weekend at the track. Thanks for the video! And looking forward to the carb episode.

When we ran the 10 hp tecumseh,we would put the fuel line in a gallon of w d40 and flush it.worked great

My engine builder said to get the two cycle gas at the local Lowe’s in the can. He said the same thing to purge it down then too spray we-40 thru the carb

I'm with you Ben. I do a lot of small engine repair and 90% of the time it's carburetor issues because of enthonal and it does attract water. When l send a unit back, l always install non-enthonial and suggest that to my customers. It costs more, but in the long term it's better. I have purchased a ultrasonic cleaner, have only used once so far, but good results. I will still use a wire to push threw the holes to ensure they are open. I think the Karting events should allow non-enthonial.

I agree. I don’t think there’s a lot of performance advantage between 87-91 octane.

I just run non ethanol 89 all the time. It dose not help or hurt power wise.

all you need to do is pull the drain plug on the carb float bowl and drain the gas after every race weekend. I spray carb cleaner up the hole with the red straw. never had can issue, motors always run strong and start right up.

cant hurt, i am having clone power issues, and i havent cleaned the carbs so i think that may be the next thing to try. I havent purges anything since my animal years ago!!

I like the idea of marvel mystery oil in the gas because I don't get a chance to race very often and I hate to have to waste any of the leftover gas

I have seen emulsion tube on clone engines problems when gas with ethanol is used . The emulsion tube can get corrosion green cheese inside the tube which would restrict fuel flow . My push mower has a copy of a clone carb on it , just smaller . I use Dandy Mini Mart 87 octane gas with ethanol in the push mower and I have to clean the emulsion tube about once a year or it starts running really bad . I am guessing the emulsion tube brass material is on the lesser quality side . Brass does not play well with ethanol .

Seems like we should legalize 89 non ethanohl gas, its all i run in small engines outside karting. How often does your engine builder reccomend the ultrasonic cleaning?

Carbs every 1-3 races is what they said. If you have the time every race doesn’t hurt.
