2time Arizona state champion Tag Sr driver and ASE certified master mechanic with over 15 years experience. It may look clean but he just got rid of any remaining soft compound left on that tire, he would have been better off taking a few laps to get the tires warm and scrub them on the course to get rid of debris and dirt.
@brooxjohnston333916 сағат бұрын
If they are being used for practice tires then maybe but tires are expensive and I wouldn’t intentionally take off compound

Cool. I’m a dirt racer. Removing pre treated dirty rubber for a fresh layer to prep is common place with us.
@HunterHerridge-g9g18 сағат бұрын
Here in south Texas at the track I run at the rules are similar to a lot of tracks, except for tire rule. To help keep cost down here, we are required to use 13x6.50x6 or 13x5x6 treaded turf tires and we stretch them to fit 8 or 9 inch wheels. They duro about 60 out of the box, but how do you think they stack up to slicks in the grip department? We are allowed to prep but I don’t even know where to begin on these.
@kart6t3_ben14 сағат бұрын
Really depends on surface. If it’s a super loose type surface then the treads are a better choice. If a track is packed well and is wet or is taking rubber the slicks typically have an advantage. Again prep is going to depend on surface, softer tracks-aggressive prep. Harder tracks milder prep to not drop the durometer too much.

Not those specific tires but Burris 11s would be comparable I would think. Work great on colder conditions on soft tracks.

go kart racing you actually cut rubber off, but you can do it with a grinder, but that's not a way to clean the tires you wash them and let them dry racing asphalt to use a heat, gun and scrape. he's doing too much unnecessary work especially with the dirt tractor tire

This is a step for dirt racers to remove the once treated surface of prep and dirt to reveal a fresh surface. Doubt akn the time. They got treated again directly after.

4:13 There is a fine art to preping a Maxxis tire. Definitely a tire for a more experienced racer. A newcomer might find more out-the-gate success with a Vega Yellow or a Vega Blue, and Burris for that matter.. They are not a high maintenance tire. The Maxxis tire needs constant care, and you can easily get consumed working the tires literally all week in between races. The vega, you can start preparing them on a thursday for a sat night race and have excellent results from our teams experience.

Agreed. I havnt learned the complete Maxxis program but have a decent idea.

@@kart6t3_ben Yeah same here. The tracks I used to run at all had tire rules, and the Maxxis was not it, lol. Those who have Maxxis figured out well are fast, there's no denying it. But I've also seen many A Maxxis tire guys get it wrong on a given night, and be way off too.

When tracks are sanctioned racers have no choice....Burris are by the most expensive. Would be nice to see open tire rules. Let competition determine the market. I am personally new to the kart world. If I want to a complete set brand new, mounted and cut it's around the 600 dollar mark. And to be competitive you need quite a few sets. It gets expensive especially for new teams. I'm taking over as president at a local kart track in central ny and we have 2 tracks left to run at. Can am is 75 miles away, and weedsport is 35. I get that a business has to make money, but this sport is dieing because of rising costs.
@kart6t3_ben6 күн бұрын
I don’t think you can lay the price increase solely on the Tire manufacturers. Cost of materials to make them rose as well. I just have a hard time believing they are willing to sacrifice the entire industry (and their share of it) for max profits. They will cease to make any money if they truly believed or behaved like that. The sport can come back strong with a better economic outlook (it has before). When people have more disposable income there is money for racing. IMO.
