Purging clogged fuel tank on BX tractor. Saving $

If you do this, make sure to remove the fuel cap first, otherwise you pressurize the tank and the fuel squirts out the hose at 100psi when the air is removed… Ask me how I know…🙄. Also, the gunk goes back up into the tank and make clog later. This is a great quick fix though!

Once your tank is clean, install a metal coffee strainer at the fill

I drained my fuel through the strainer and put the fuel back in the tank through the strainer and never had another issue.

I've done this three times on my 2370. It fixes it temporarily until it clogs again.

A lot of the time its the fuel cap. If you start losing power just loosen it. If power returns soak the fuel cap to clean it or replace. In the spring I always change the tank filter and let the fuel run into a bucket for the burn pile fuel and it gets the winter sediment (From sitting) out of the bottom of the tank..

I had the same issue with mine. I disconnected the fuel line going into the fuel filter, stuck a drinking straw in the line and blew hard. I could feel whatever was clogging the line pop out and fuel came out smooth after. Probably have to eventually remove the tank and clean it out but that's a job for another day.

We did this yesterday (1-21-2023) on my neighbors BX23S, same problem. And same results, once he blasted into the tank the diesel came pouring out. I suspect it will happen again, something in that tank is clogging the outlet. His fuel pump died, I believe from it running without any fuel flowing thru it. And it seems to be a problem with Kubota, in researching I see a few posts about this.

I have noticed mine will stop fuel flow if I let fuel get below half a tank. It so so frustrating. Back blowing it is the only solution I have found.

If theres something in the tank it will eventually get sucked back down to the drain hole and shut the tractor down again. Im dealing with the same problem now. I even took the tank off and thought i got the tank clean but there still must be something in the tank.

Condensation builds in tank- I live in a humid area. Causes corrosion and debris to form. Problem is that debris is caught at pinch point that is PART of the fuel tank. So upgraded fuel filters can help, but aren't addressing the main issue. Service dealers have 5-8 hours of labor slated for this kind of repair bc of the various parts that have to be removed to access the tank. Please let kubota know this kind of flawed design, that guarantees repeat service visits, is unacceptable!

Yep I have been dealing with this same issue. Blew out the line and it clogged again after 5 minutes.

@@pefrend this is a problem with Kabota VX model you just gotta pull the tank clear the elbow out and get a lot. Did you blow it out and just keep coming back that’s how I fix it. Just take it apart and have patience.

From what I have gathered, and you probably did too since its been a year since you asked this question, he is inserting the air right into the line and blowing the debris back into the tank. It should work for a quick fix but will likely happen again unless the fuel tank is cleaned, which is effing task all in itself.

Hmm. Yeah, I agree with the other comment. You didn't actually show the full process. At 1:56, you cut from setting up the air compressor then jump forward to a small stream then jump again to full flow. We don't get to see you actually applying air pressure to the hose.

I had the same problem too for the past several months. Tractor would run then the engine struggled and shut off. Purged the fuel line that comes from the fuel tank with compressed air - that cleared it right up. Thank you very much for this instruction.

Same thing happened to mine. Up upgraded to a bulbed water fuel filter separator and also fill my tank through a filter to get gunk out before it ever enters the machine. So far so good.

where and how did you find a pre filter for the tractor?
