First off, if for nothing else, purple dead nettle tea is my go to as a Sudafed replacement. When it's at its peak, I just gather all I can fit tightly in one hand, pour steaming hot water over it; not boiling, since I'm using it for medicine; and let it steep to body temperature. Strain, squeezing it tightly. Yes, it definitely is grassy tasting, but in 15 or 20 minutes my headache is gone. I do keep it dehydrated for use throughout the year and I'm glad you like it, but I sure don't. I do like it doesn't have any of Sudafed's side effects and I don't have to show my driver's license to buy it, like I'm a criminal. I mix purple dead nettle and henbit in my wild, cooked spring greens for eating, but don't add a lot because of the texture. I also ferment them and any other wild edibles like dill pickles; without the dill; puree, dehydrate on the lowest settings to preserve the live probiotics and prebiotics, powder and use it as an add at the table salt; the ferment wakes up on its way through the intestinal tract, imparting all kinds of benefits. Modern greens are poor cousins to wild greens.

Hey Steve, 🪷 Heal All (Prunella vulgaris) and Purple Dead Nettle (Lamium purpureum) are not the same plant, but they are both in the mint family and look very similar, Heres how to tell the difference between the two. Leaves: Heal All: The leaves are typically oval to lance-shaped, with serrated edges, and are arranged oppositely along the stem. The leaves are usually green, sometimes with a hint of purple. Purple Dead Nettle: The leaves are triangular to heart-shaped with serrated edges and are arranged opposite each other on the stem. The leaves have a distinct purple coloration. Stems: Heal All: The stem is square in cross-section, a common feature in many plants of the mint family. Purple Dead Nettle: The stem is typically square in cross-section as well, characteristic of the mint family. Flowers: Heal All: The flowers are small, tubular, and usually purple in color. They are arranged in dense, cylindrical spikes at the top of the stem. Purple Dead Nettle: The flowers are also small and tubular but are more pink-purple in color. They are arranged in whorls along the stem, rather than in dense spikes like Heal All.

Simply place the flowers in a jar and cover them with honey. Let the mixture sit for a few weeks to allow the flavors to infuse. Edible Flower Garnish: Sprinkle the purple dead nettle flowers over cakes, cupcakes, or other desserts as an edible and visually appealing garnish. They can add a pop of color and a subtle floral flavor to your creations. Infused Syrups: Make a syrup by simmering purple dead nettle flowers with water and sugar. Once the mixture has cooled, strain out the flowers and use the syrup to sweeten beverages like lemonade, cocktails, or iced tea, or drizzle it over desserts like pancakes or ice cream. Floral Ice Cream: Infuse cream with purple dead nettle flowers to make a floral-infused ice cream. Simply heat cream until just simmering, remove from heat, add the flowers, and let steep for about 30 minutes. Strain out the flowers, chill the infused cream, and then enjoy!
