I have been using this pillow for a little over 3 years now and nothing else can compare. Love it! My girlfriend just got one of their newer pillows that is softer and a bit taller which seems good as well. Similar experience at first with the smell, I think I just aired it out for a day and it was fine to use. I also put an additional pillow case on it which may help reduce the smell at first. Never been happier with the durability and comfort.

I know I'm late to the party but, for those who don't know, the chemical smell in the pillow is formaldehyde. It's used for keeping insects from getting into them and feeding on them while they are stored in warehouses. Most all fabrics, foams, mattresses, even some wood furniture items...like press wood are treated with formaldehyde. A lot of things that will be stored in warehouses for unknown amounts of time needs to be protected from insects. That is what that strong chemical smell in new clothing is too. That's why they say you should wash new clothes before wearing them...and bedding too. Hope this helps someone out there. 😊

I have this pillow, there was no smell. Almost every other review I read practically had something to say about this odd odor that came from the pillow. I ordered one because I always wanted a Purple mattress and one of their pillows, so when I had money for a pillow on Amazon, I got it! When it came I took it to my room, opened it up as I got ready to hold my breath, but... There was no smell. I shrugged to myself and proceeded to use it. I love that pillow!

2022: Great products. I work a 12-hour day and if I did not have a purple seat cushion, with Rheumatoid Arthritis, I couldn't do my job. I also sleep with a thinner purple cushion under my hips, because my cheap husband won't buy a new mattress, and my hips get severely bruised from SLEEPING (side sleeper). The purple cushion got rid of the bruising! Highly recommend this product for bed bound people and others that are in wheelchairs or similar issues. I use these products daily and allow me to be healthy and functional.

Love My Pillows. I have 6 of them and will probably he getting more soon. I didn't care for the regular ones though. But I love the firm and won't use any other pillow. Well, there might be some issue with it. Washing rubber like that might cause it to start to harden and fracture over time, so if they would wash it after manufacture and then store them for an extended period of time, it might become an issue and washing them as they are ordered isn't practical at all. I don't know, I'm guessing what MIGHT be the reason.

I absolutely love my purple pillow, it keep my head cool enough to allow me to sleep without sweating. The white powder has been a huge topic of debate. When people first started noticing it, Purple wouldn't give an explanation, after a year or so and multiple alleged cases of people needing to go to the doctor for respiratory issues, Purple claimed it was talcum powder (which is pretty harmless). I forgot which lab did testing on the powder but it was confirmed to not be talcum powder, and that it was unidentifiable. After those claims came out, Purple claimed it was Polyethylene, I haven't heard anything about it since.

Update from 2022: Purple made a big deal in a court case of it being 'edible plastics'/'safe for consumption' according to the FDA. Which caused most the interest to die away, because they represented 'you could eat it' as meaning the same thing as 'harmless to be inhaled'. I have had more problems with pillows since my traffic accident than I care to admit. I have tried so many different kinds, but nothing worked for me. One day I was napping, and I was getting a neck pain from my pillow, so I grabbed my little fuzzy jacket and used it instead. I have never used another pillow again! Randomly seeing this in my recommended videos, I never had the chemical smell issue, oddly enough. I got mine as a Christmas gift several years ago and honest to God, I've had to lug that effing thing everywhere I go bc it's literally the only pillow I can sleep on without waking up with neck pain. No, this smell (nicknamed "Chinesium") isn't just the usual solvent smell from new products that goes away. It's caused by the breakdown of one of the plastic inputs (usually butylene rubber). It won't go away. If you wash and air it out every day, you'll minimise it, and you might get used to it, but if you stop airing it every day, the stink of the butyric acid will fill the room. The key is, it's a sign that the manufacturer is using already failing material. It's the plastic equivalent of buying food that already smells rancid. It ain't gonna get better. (Edit: In the follow-up video, he says the smell faded. Which doesn't happen with the butylene problem. So it may have really been a solvent issue. Unusual for those to last a week of daily washing.)

It's super easy man. Just install 4 hooks into the framing studs in the ceiling to ensure it can hold up a giant sheet of glass then clip in four pulleys and a rip cord release for the sheet of glass. Finally purchase a drill bit for glass specifically and make a hole in each corner to connect cords from the pulleys to the glass. Oh then go buy eggs. Easy man.

@veryserioz I've had a few of those foam/gel gusset pillows. They're good, but the ones I had didn't last too long. I've been using one of those pillows with the arms that's filled that recycled couch type material. Very firm, but I only use the arm part of it for the top of my neck. Works great for me.

I bought it a year ago, combined with the bed it's my favorite pillow for a side sleeper like me. The company has ironed out most of the kinks, and I am very happy with it. The best mattress set I've ever slept in for barely over $2000, I consider it worth my money.

All synthetic pillows and mattresses need to "off gas" for a week or so. Just take it out of the package and put in a room or garage and let the smell air out naturally. Washing it does not help. It's called off gassing.

Garages usually have your car which uses gas. Not saying that has anything to do with your suggestion to put it in the garage, but that seems like a bad place to attempt to "air out" something.

Depends on if you have ventilation or if you're car is old and ends up getting a leak. Unless you leave your car on at night driving in circles but I assume that doesn't happen. So, cars would really only leak a little gas into the garage but I would assume most garages aren't air tight.

I have the purple seat cushion and it does smell like plastic mixed with gasoline. I thought they would have removed that smell for the pillow. I can't imagine sleeping with that smell.

Freakin' Reviews I ended up getting the "simply purple" seat cushion based on written reviews. I may be too heavy for it because it doesn't seem to help me out a lot as far as back pain over time goes. I weigh about 230 pounds. I really wish you have done a review on it. I've seen the purple seat cushion at Bed,Bath & Beyond for like $80 ! and was fascinated by its texture. This pillow seems to be a direct descendant of the seat cushion. It's like a jelly silicone in a waffle like pattern. Weird, but the display cushion at the store really got me interested in it.

I did some R&D on similar products, the reason for that smell are the solvents used when making the coating. The raw materials would bring tears to your eyes.
