It is black Gesso. Not acrylic paint.

I'm sure it would be awesome to be taught by Josh but myself I've been oil painting, not consistently as I do other art, for about 6 years and I learned from Bob Ross videos and now Josh and if you don't know it just recently announced his grandfather was cousin to Bob Ross, probably why he's so talented, point being I haven't had any live teachings just from videos alone and have done very well and people say I didn't know you could take and I tell him I learned it from Bob Ross and Josh videos you can too just have a lot of confidence in yourself start out with with lots of practice like Josh and you'd be surprised it doesn't take that long before you start seeing good results give it a try.. good luck
