Why I sold my MS271 chainsaw, and for how much- it might shock you!

After experiencing the power and performance of the light weight Stihl MS261C chainsaw, I decided I didn't need the MS271 Farmboss chainsaw any longer. I searched online to determine its value and sell it. I was shocked to learn that I would be able to sell it for more than I paid for it about 3 years ago. The Stihl MS271 farm and ranch saw was a fine chainsaw. And I used it and enjoyed it for the last several years. Now that I have the MS261 professional saw, I just don't have a need for the 271 at this time. Video of the MS261 cutting more Oak. #MS271 #bigtoolrack ‪@Bigtoolrack‬ #purplecollarlife #chainsawman

The Stihl MS271 did a lot of work for us in 3 years. But it was time to recoup some of my money for the MS261. Here's one of our favorite videos working together with the MS271. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rajVqIyhZdqsm6s

I bought my MS271 a year ago, I love it and it is serves me well for the trees I cut for firewood in SW New Mexico...I will admit though it is a tad on the heavy side...so I use my girlfriend's MS170 for limbing and trees smaller than 8" in diameter. Great combo.
@PurpleCollarLife

That is a great combo! The 271 for the bigger stuff, and the MS170 for the smaller limb wood and small trees. Both great choices. Thank you for watching!

yeah the trees here aren't as big as where you are...and like you I was on a pretty tight budget...but your new MS261C sure seems like a great saw. Also, you are right about the prices of chainsaws, they went up a lot a year or so ago. Nice you got a great price for your used MS271! @@PurpleCollarLife

I was really happy to see that they were selling for good prices - especially when I saw the condition of mine compared to the others I found listed. I am also glad that the new owner is getting a well taken care of saw for a fair price compared to some of the other ones I saw for sale at the same price. If I had known then what I know now - I would have picked up a bunch of nice condition used saws 3 years ago and then sold them as investments now. :)

I’ve had my 261C for 2 years now. I had needed a new saw but I had been putting it off based on the cost for a new saw - I could afford it but didn’t want to. After I got the 261C, I realized I should have made the jump way sooner. I’m kicking myself on that now. Having that lighter more powerful saw makes me more productive with less effort. It’s a great saw. I’ll never go back to a farm and ranch saw.

I have a great mathematical equation to help justifying the purchase of new equipment/toys. The number of chainsaws you need is N+1 with N being the number you have. Fortunately my wife hasn’t been able to discredit this since it’s science! Great video!

That's awesome! The 261 is like having a light-weight climber saw, mixed with the power of a bigger saw. But there's certainly still a place for a larger saw! What 73cc saw do you use?

I have the MS261C, and I bought it because I take it to different elevations, and it auto adjusts. I’m a big Echo guy, but I love the Stihl over my CS-590 with 24” bar. Quick question: What color do you get when you combine Blue and White? Hint: it’s not Purple…
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife 10 ай бұрын
The automatic adjustment with the MS261C is one of the reasons I like it too. I don't change elevations much - but our fuel around here changes between winter and summer, and our climate varies throughout the year. I'm not sure why the term purple collar was designated to describe the combination of blue collar and white collar work. In the workplace, purple collar is used to identify employees who have jobs that combine both types of work. For example - information technology staff who spend part of their job day working on the network from their computer, and part of the day working on the network by climbing ladders, running Ethernet lines, etc. Or Engineers who spend part of the day designing on their computer, and the other part of their day turning wrenches and building prototypes. The term describes our lifestyle nicely. Thanks for watching!

Never sell a 50cc professional grade chainsaw. I don't care what else you buy in the future. You can compliment it with whatever bigger saw you want, but a professional grade 50cc will do a lot of work without wearing you out in the process.

I bought a stihl ms271 and it has been a pain in the rear all the time I've owned it. I always steered clear of stihl saws because of the cost but I finally bought one. Big mistake on my part. If the initial cost wasn't so much I'd throw the thing in the trash. It cost a fortune when I get someone to work on it and it's not designed to be worked on by the owner. I do not recommend buying a stihl.
