My understanding is that the scaps should protract at the finish and retract early in the descent, in essence they are not meant to be statically held unless you are using a limited ROM.

Your channel is great, however in this video elbows are not addressed. It is very important to keep elbows closer to the body, not away, like wings. Glutes must be tighten as well, to keep a proper form.

By avoiding to let scapula move and so int. rotate shoulders will then allso prevent the rounded forward shoulders from beeing developed, meaning better posture not dooing so. Great point, thanks for this video. AND more importantly, will this then lead to making use of rhomboids and traps to keep the spine lifted by the shoulderblades.

I must disagree. Push-up plus is excellent for the anterior serratus which in many people is very weak, resulting in a flared scapula. Push-up through the serratus is a valid exercise.

Only fi you are getting appropriate activation in your tris and chest. If the serratus and delts are taking over then you're already in the flared scapula situation and need to fix the traps first.

Are you not supposed to bend your elbows so outwards to the sides when doing push ups? If you're trying to show how to work the chest, then this would make sense, but I've known with regular push ups that you're supposed to keep your elbows tucked in to your sides. If you're doing it with knuckles on the floor instead of open palms like you're showing in the video, you just need to turn the knuckles so that they're facing each other. This way, you're also working your biceps and triceps along with the chest, all while keeping your back naturally aligned. That's just what I've read and watched videos of. If anyone would like to correct me, please, explain why. I'm crazy picky about keeping good form to optimize the best results, and any well argued critique will be much appreciated.

You want to have a slight bend in the elbows to protect shoulders. They don't have to be tucked all the way into your sides when you're doing push-ups. When your hands are closer to the body, elbows will be at your sides. This variation is working triceps more. When your hands are placed at a wider stance, it'll put more focus on shoulders. A good way to know if you're doing it correctly is to make sure the elbows are pointed towards your feet rather than pointing away from you :)

This skeleton is doing push ups wrong when showing correct form lol you don't fist push up like that, you turn your hand 90° or close to it and get better triceps activation. Also fist push ups are bad for beginners since they don't have enough strength to stabilaze wrist.
