AND I just found a new use for it... I was behind on wood, during a bad storm, and used this INSIDE THE GARAGE to cut up some wood. NEVER would have done that with a gas saw. YESSSS! And it is still going strong

Nice vid. Nice to see what a 5Ah XR pack can do. I added a 14” bar but went back to the 12” when I got the 16” flexvolt chainsaw saw. Watch out for the first Gen 16” as it had a troublesome bar oiler pump. Dewalt changed the design on gen2.

I’ve been eyeing this saw for awhile. I have 23 acres mostly Aspen trees that are not more than 10-12” diameter. I’m thinking this saw should be able to rip through these trees no problem, at least I could use it for limbing and clearing trails. Great review.

Yes! I think it would do well for you. It's not as expensive as the heavier saws, which are more powerful but also heavier like I said LOL. This is light and easy to "wield" and manipulate. Be sure to check my video of the DeWalt 20 volt saw with a bigger bar, that may benefit you as well. Thanks for watching and for commenting 👍

@@anesthesiadreamin thanks for the reply, one more question if you don’t mind. What do you think of the safety trigger button? Is it a pain to press that and the trigger at the same time. I looked at the 60v saw and it was kind of awkward so I passed on it. I haven’t seen a 20v in person yet but think the safety switch is different?
@anesthesiadreamin
@anesthesiadreamin 2 жыл бұрын
@@wobdeehomestead LOL I HATE safety buttons. On some skilsaws sawzalls and grinders, you have to alter your grip on the tool, so sometimes in some positions you aren't holding it well JUST TO DEPRESS THE SAFETY BUTTON. I have nearly dropped tools that just kicked on because of a crappy grip and poorly placed "safety" buttons, so I get it. But on this tool, it feels natural, I don't think it will bug you much, I really don't notice it on this one, but OTHERS MAKE ME CRAZY. Sorry for the rant. Sounds like we think alike in this area 🙂

I use my DeWalt for exactly this purpose, we have 115 acres full of aspens. I do find though that when you're cutting through green trees, you will have a lot of saw dust that gets caked up where the bar goes into the housing. And because it's always leaking bar oil, it does end up on the messy side though. Great little chainsaw for that purpose though

Dewalt tools will not run the battery completely flat to prevent damaging the battery.

Awesome, I was looking for how many cuts of this dry pine you can cut, specially this size 8-9" and by using one regular battery. That's great review, thanks for sharing this! I will be getting one for my self for sure, needed it this weekend on trail badly.. Do you still use it, happy with it? 👌

Yes, still have the 16in bar on it. Not really bucking with it, but I do Carry it in the jeep for trees that fall across the mountain roads. Also still limbing with it. 👍

@@anesthesiadreamin does it make your battery drain much more with 16" bar, then 12? Is it enough torque for the saw to cut wood with longer bar?
@anesthesiadreamin
@anesthesiadreamin 2 жыл бұрын
@@marksabota4056yes it does fine cutting pine... I don't have hard woods anywhere near me, so cant comment on that. Check the video link at the end of this video, and also on my channel "dewalt 20v chainsaw for real limbing???" Where i limb a bunch of pines on One battery! It impressed me for sure👍 hey thx for watching :-)

@@marksabota4056 sorry i didnt answer your question... I haven't tested the 12 in vs the 16in back to back, but it "feels" like it cuts somewhat longer with the 12 in bar

I'm confused. YOu say it's not a 12" arm but I can see the label on the blade that says 12in.?
@anesthesiadreamin
@anesthesiadreamin 2 жыл бұрын
Yes! Confusing, right!?! When u actually measure the cutting distance from the front of the saw to the tip of the bar, it's not 12 in. Chainsaw manufacturers round up the number to the nearest EVEN number, so a bar that is truly 10.5 in is advertised as a 12 in. Check my video on Dewalt 20v Bigger Bar, I explain it better in that video

If you are talking about leaking around the fill cap, then yep, I tried a nitrile O-ring, and it helped. But I can't remember the size. Otherwise I was storing it on it's side so it wouldn't leak out the fill cap.

Why carry a heavy generator to charge batteries when you could carry a gas can for a gas powered chainsaw?

Can you charge your phone with a chainsaw? Or the battery on the ATV? That generator is more likely to save your life than a gas powered chainsaw...

It has its advantages, this is only a 12 in but with a couple batteries it can do a lot and bigger batteries are available, one advantage is during clean up the Saw is not at idle and you can work without disturbing people. If you want to compare saws then let's use the 20 in DeWalt 4 HP with twice the torque of a 50 cc gas

I can never understand a person that will cut on the ground like this. Cut the logs on the top of the pile, much easier on your back and the blade will never hit the dirt. Nice video otherwise.

I typically cut on the pile like you suggest, I thought this might be better for video angle. The older I get the more I don't want to bend over LOL, hence my "save my back" playlist, including "DIY pike pole" helps me a ton. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching!
