Love how you show side-by-side to let us see the time-saving: the normal way of playing vs the new trick. So best!! I hope that you or someone else will find even more time-saving tricks in SMB3 but I'm so aware of that it's harder and harder to find more tricks. I watched that great World Record Progression video lately so I understand that it's pretty hard to find new time saving tricks but I will always have my fingers crossed! I love speedrunnings! I'm not a speedrunner, I'm just a normal player but I enjoy these speedruns a lot and the world record progression. And SMB3 is one of my fav games all-time! Crazy that SMB3 is 34 years old now. "Super Mario" had its 35th anniversary "just recently" and now SMB3 itself is almost 35 years old. Really one of the best games all-time!

I got door 3 the first time I tried it after seeing it on summoning salts video. I was dummy stoked cause I've never hit a speed running trick before. Tried it probably 50 times after that and didn't hit it once. Incredible luck to hit it!

Sooo I am 37. Back when I was like 10 or 11 years old I vividly remember me and my cousin doing the 2-2 P-speed so called trick utterly consistently time and time again every time we would play together. I can't remember for the life of me what the heck we were doing to allow us to have p-speed straight from the start of 2-2 but I clearly remember it had nothing to do with taking damage or shooting a pixel perfect fireball.... If some wall clips save a crazy amount of time in some levels, and you could set up your sub-pixels with the single-step tap method before you jump into the card at the end of the level, then wouldn’t it be worth it to finish that level a second slower for a consistent wall clip?

For highly RNG dependent games like this, I don't understand why the runner community doesn't agree on a modded version of the game that forces consistent hammer brother and hand grab movement run to run. Still plenty of luck to be had in terms of pulling off frame-perfect tricks, but it would turn the focus towards player skill instead and reduce the dependency on luck.

Where is the fun in that? It would also take away possible scenarios where we might find a way to manipulate hammer bro movements with some accuracy. Stuff like that has happened before on other games.

@@MaaZeus The fun is in less run casualties due to RNG. This game still has plenty of potential for run deaths without RNG deteriorating most runs. I suppose I think of it like NES Tetris tournaments that ensure identical piece order per match. The RNG is the same per player. It's just down to skill now.

Would it be possible to set your sub pixel after you kill the boss to do the wand grab (on the normal 4), or is there not enough time? I had considered testing this a number of moths ago but because I don't know the (standard) boss patterns or the speed strats to kill them (I only casually speed run the game), I didn't think it would be of any use. Since the bosses have patterns, would it possible to kill the boss in a specific location, nudge Mario to set your sub pixel, then go for the wand grab? I assume something like this has been explored, but in case it hasn't I thought I'd comment. I've considered a number of other places where one could set their sub pixel to then have a better chance of getting a precise clip, but for most I believe the time-loss to set it up would not be advantageous. Sub pixel manipulation in Mario 3 fascinates me, and once it started being used it opened up a number of doors.
