As I dive into FPV world, am learning to increasingly appreciate Nurk's videos and focus of work. His vids push the envelope, bridging between practical real world on-set work issues, and pure FPV manic fun. Always some fun experiment presented. Today he used the DJI FPV in accordance with its nature to bring the best out of it. It is a bit of a hybrid, and that's how he understood it and flew it. Super cool creeping around that island! Thanks for presenting.

Love your coverage on the FPV drone. I just ordered one, used to fly both acro quads and long range 1.3ghz/dragonlink. I got out of the hobby a few years ago because it all became too much to juggle while also focusing on life. This new DJI unit looks like it addresses all my issues while providing 810p into the goggles...pretty amazing for the price, and if it ends up completely lost it's not like I spent 40 hours building and tuning it. Glad your doing in depth coverage as your answering a lot of questions the mainstream reviews don't cover.

I’m glad to see someone review this thing for what it was intended for. So many guys in the hard core FPV community r bashing it because it won’t hold up for “ripping packs” around the school yard. I like the term u used “ hybrid”. Even though it can...It was never intended in my opinion for power loops and diving buildings.

People hating on this hybrid FPV quad know they secretly want one. Been flying FPV since 2015 when cleanflight was all the rage, I couldn't imagine this being my first FPV drone like it is for some people. New FPV fliers are finally entering the market again which will bring about an FPV boom. Probably not as strong as the 2016 FPV boom but I'll take it. Fatshark and other FPV companies sat on their hands for far too long. Though I do wish DJI didn't botch the Goggles V2 release so badly...and finally enable video out on both V1 and V2s for all flights. Since the DJI smart controller is basically an android system we know its possible...

That was very interesting and impressive. Might be interesting to do a test where you see how efficient the Drone is at different speeds. for example can you fly more distance at 50 mph then you can at 25 mph, until the battery is down to 50% or 30%.. So what I'm trying to figure out is let's say you have 30% battery left and you're pretty far from home. Are you more likely to make it home if you fly slower or faster?

Nurk. I believe you should create a channel for this Drone. There are so many possibilities, we would enjoy you leading the pack in the exploration. One thing though. In the first paragraph, BODLY EXPRESS the channel is not for ACRO Flyer & otherwise Experts (Jerks). Reading the comments on videos are helpful, but since the launch of this drone, the "experts" are saying REALLY RIDICULOUS things (a large number of them flat out false/wrong) as they vainly attempt to justify their quads; why they're so much better; and many other non-value add remarks. Plainly state this is a platform for exploration and learning - negative remarks are not appreciated. This Drone is a paradigm shift. It's a great entry point into the hobby. It's not going away, and I suspect it's going to get better, with a very large audience.

Not sure if you’ve thought of this, but the only direct connection to gas power plant with regards to flight ops I can think of (I flew a bigger army drone) we called is “bingo fuel.” Enough fuel to land from your farthest planned point. With battery “engines” motors, maybe the idea could be “bingo battery.” Forcing the system or operator to safely RTB/RTH.

I’m gonna be “that guy”. 1. I want to see you actually attempt to do some mountain surfing, because I think your gonna be hindered by an altitude limit. 2. The sun kept creating this blue dot in the image, what’s that about? 3. It’s great that it can tell you when to come home but you can’t push it to sacrifice the battery to save the drone. When it decides the parties over it’ll just land... even over water. I’m interested in the dji fpv drone but I think everyone is playing with kid gloves on. There are good qualities and bad I just don’t want to see the good qualities examined and just gloss over the bad. Nurk, in the back of your head you know where the real negatives are, give us the dirty dirt. Only then can we decide if it’s really worth the price. I’ve got nothing against the dji fpv drone I just want the whole truth
@tomengman

Mm, agree with this. All the limitations are bullshit for what it costs, if I'd like to disable all of the safety I should be able to. Let's hope they publish the SDK for this drone like they did for Mavic, Spark, Inspire 2 and a few other of their drones. My Mavic has all of it turned off except return to home with dynamic home point and it's by far a way way better drone without those features. No incorrect altitude limits over obstacles, no battery safety features that cannot be ignored if you have to sacrifice it to save the drone. No incorrect NFZ maps placing invisible walls etc etc.

@@Max-mb2el interesting. I’ve never noticed it in any of my GoPro, air unit, osmo pocket, phone or any other camera I’ve used. I’ve seen some lens light reflection before I just never saw a marble sized blue dot moving around on the image.

Back in 2015 I was able to range test my DJI Inspire over Lake Erie. I was just over 5 miles and getting perfect video and control. The only reason I had to turn back was I was at 50% battery and I knew I was already pushing it. With more battery I bet I could've gotten alot farther. Cool video!

Got some good news while watching this video. HGLRC finally shipped my RTF Sector 5 V3! I kinda wish that I had waited for the DJI FPV drone, but in the long run, I'll probably be a better FPV driver learning to the fly conventional FPV aircraft.

The 1-way trip idea is awesome. Chase a buddy in a car with it, go out until the battery is at, like, 15%, then have your buddy pull off and land the drone by him, change batteries, fly back. And you end up with cool car chase footage. What's not to like?
