Maybe I'm wrong, but I always understood it that way: Kale got blackmailed by that guy even before the episode began. The guy phoned him and they agreed to meet at the lake. Kale planned to kill the blackmailer, and therefore he announced to everyone that he would now bring the case back , that anouncement serving as a concealement for his real purpose: killing the blackmailer while trying to make it look like as if if was Kale who was the intended victim of the murder because Kale supposedly stirred something up with his investigations.

I cracked up at Roses' "Seth has-been" line at 6:42 or so. I'm actually surprised that's never been used on the show (or, in the books that go along with the show). The issue sometimes comes up of Seth being too old / old-school, and feeling threatened by younger doctors and modern medicine. I know I repeat myself, and it's partly because I lose track of comments - but I feel like Seth was trying to prove he could do what Jessica does (i.e., be a good detective.)

Definitely loved all the women idolizing her - complete with the portrait of her overlooking their meeting. And it's cool (and surprising) that she comes to have so much respect for the person who caused trouble by impersonating her.
@jessicalillianweinberg44014 жыл бұрын
@@julianalani5151 I was slightly disappointed that, despite having Lansbury play identical relatives to Jessica, they did not use her for a dual role in that episode. The impostor really didn't look like her. When you think that in every other episode everyone recognizes her on sight, you wonder why more people didn't spot the impostor.
@jessicalillianweinberg44014 жыл бұрын
And Jessica is totally nice to them - and manages to be uncomfortable with being worshiped and go, "Hey, a whole posse of people who will do anything I say," at the same time, and puts to use the fact that they idolize her to help solve her own problem: "Get rid of those ID cards" (and they do - and they help her investigate too!) It's funny, though, that everyone knows who Jessica is and loves her, but people thinking she's dead is played as funny. A very sit-com-type mistake-about-a-death. Jessica's pretty nonchalant about the whole thing too: "I AM Jessica Fletcher - but I've had a hard time proving it lately." (The ladies wonder if SHE'S an impostor.) I suppose the fan club ladies represent viewers of the show who wanted help her / be her? This will sound silly - but I realized I felt like there was one thing missing - a show that had both people idolizing Jessica and a mix-up about her being dead should have had someone also thinking there had been a "resurrection." It is an unexpected twist that by the end, the ladies have, with Jessica's encouragement, "elevated" the impersonating person, who got killed, to a hero on the same level as Jessica (almost literally, as we see from portraits on the wall.)

Mine too. I've mentioned in previous comments that "Trial By Error" is revived, it definitely needs to be! 😃

@@rmhartman I think that line comes from a different episode - where Jessica is a trial witness and the other lawyer is trying to discredit her. But it's also kind of a nod to the running joke about how often Jessica (and her relatives) encounter murder.

That Scott Baio dig though. I do love this episode, partly because of the slate of stars that feature. Erin Moran and Haley Mills are both just phenomenal!

That "purr" noise you did was hilarious. Also: Tom Bosley's chest hair was just bursting out of his costume. I could've done without that. Clearly this is an HD transfer from film, given the detail on that particular, um, feature.

Another good MSW video! And Joanie got to work with her "Happy Days" dad Tom Bosley again! While the "I'm a dirty cop being blackmailed so I'm going to draw attention to the case where I killed someone, lure my blackmailer and the original suspects to the scene of the original crime, kill the blackmailer and make it look like someone else did it" plot should get some points for imagination it was pretty ridiculous. Really he should have just shot the guy the guy in an alley somewhere. That would have given Jess a real challenge! I'd love to see you do "Who Threw the Barbitals in Mrs.Fletcher's Chowder". It has Yvette from "Clue" in it, and we know you like "Clue"!

If you want a Murder, She Wrote episode with a cold case I prefer “The Days Dwindle Down” it’s so good

Stephen Broady, such a great episode.

That's the one that use footage from and old B&W film as flashbacks yeah? Wasn't it a kind of sequel to the film, with most of the film cast reprising their roles from the movie?

Angela .Rajic what the movie, I had no idea it was based on anything.
@stephenbroady50005 жыл бұрын
Angela .Rajic yes! Though they sort of make changes in ways that’s different from the original movie
@jessicalillianweinberg44014 жыл бұрын
With the cold cases, I always kind of feel like "where was Jessica when they were actually happening" - if they took place in Cabot Cove. There's an implication here that Jessica and Seth didn't know each other when he made this investment, even though it always seems elsewhere like they've both lived in Cabot Cove forever.

I always really enjoy your videos. May I suggest an episode review for a Murder She Wrote episode? I've always remembered the episode from season six episode three. The Grand Old Lady. I always remember it for being set in 1946 and parts being filmed on The Queen Mary. Also a part where I think somebody falls overboard. The main reason I remember it is that Angela Lansbury is the narrator of the episode. Keep up the great work.

I really like how you pointed out the lamps, I am constantly driving my daughter nuts whenever and episode is on because they have cool vintage lamps....needless to say I have watched Murder She Wrote when it originally was on tv and I too have the DVD collection plus movie collection. Practically know the shows by heart but continue to watch - it's my comfort show.

I really like the episode “off to kill the wizard.” Season one episode seven. Lock the door mystery, and while I love the solution it’s still leaves a lot to be desired. If you have done this one, I’ll have to dig through and find it. I tried to see if you had but I wasn’t sure.
@jessicalillianweinberg44014 жыл бұрын
That's actually one example where the weirdness is kind of explained - the murdered person is a theme park tycoon, so we know from the get-go he has all these devices to create illusions. That's not something Jessica just discovers at the last minute.

Great review! I'm curious to see your opinion on Nan's Ghost. Not only is it pretty complicated but it also involves treasure and of course, supernatural type stuff. Keep up the great work!
