Death is one of if not the best DreamWorks antagonist ever. I like how, at the start, Puss was bragging about having "never been touched by a blade." So the moment Death was actually able to cut him, Puss became a scared, anxious mess. It's the moment he realized he's not invincible after all.

@@Voltbolto this is what makes great villains: -Strong and/or intimidating -Backstory -Overcoming obstacles -Character arcs Death only checks like one of those. He's definitely cool, but character wise he's very one note. You could describe him in one sentence: he's a personified natural concept who wants to collect Puss. That's all there is to him. Pitch on the other hand nailed ALL of those things. He's also very cool and intimidating (Jude Law has amazing charisma), but he also has a story, a motivation you can understand (even if you don't want him to win), AND he's not unstoppable he does struggle and loses half the battles but he doesn't give up. He's a character first. Death is a plot device. Big Jack Horner was more of a villain than he was.

Some awesome little details in this movie that set things up SO WELL... Death claims he has been there for every death Puss had. And he has. If you look back you will see him drawn in the corners of every card that counts the deaths. And as others pointed out he was in the background in the sweeping wave shot of the crowd at the giant fight. The bell the giant uses tolls exactly eight times... As many times as the wolf taps the word 'Death' on the wanted poster too.

Yes, this is a reupload; I had to hide all the blurred parts of the original and have been working on this to hopefully have it on the channel. I don't know why but I kept getting hit for copyright on blurred footage and it got the video blocked, I've seen other creators show more so I'm totally confused; if this gets blocked then I guess that's it. One thing I love about Dreamworks is their ability to keep their movies kid friendly, but still using some more adultish tactics. It makes them enjoyable for all ages, and personally I think Dreamworks does it better than Disney.

I really am glad they kept the dog as upbeat as he was and there was no crazy twist with him being secretly bad. Same with Little Jack Horner and his role in the movie as a straight villain. With as many characters as they had, they gave a lot of information about each and none were ignored. Honestly brilliant movie and was so surprised when I was hearing good things about it and finally went to watch it. All the Easter eggs from other animated and live-action movies were well done. There was a part at the start that reminded me of some shots in Attack on Titan the way it was directed. I liked all the development of the characters and I definitely think Kitty Softpaws overheard Puss talking about the church and wanting to be there, so she lied and said she wasn't there either being more understanding, because after that she acted differently. Just so much to love about this movie. EDIT: The magical bag is from Mary Poppins and he kept pulling out magical items from all over other movies. To name a few: Poison apple - Snow White, Trident - Little Mermaid, "Eat Me" snack is from Alice in Wonderland that makes Alice grow massive. The grasshopper/cricket was a reference to Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio. He literally says, "let your conscience be your guide." a lot of other ones too.

I don't think Kitty lied, I think she just hadn't felt guilty for ditching Puss because, as far as she knew, Puss didn't feel guilty for ditching her. When he admits that he feels torn up over the situation, she realizes that she's also culpable, and apologizes.

Dreamworks just threw down the gauntlet to every other animation studio. It was great watching your reactions. Just like pretty much all the others, it was obviously you both were totally engaged in the film the entire way through. Any screenwriter wanting to know how to create an effective and memorable antagonist just has to watch the wolf in this. He didn't really have that much screen time, and yet, if somebody came up next to you and whistled his tune, I bet you'd get shivers.

The writing on this movie is tight af. Everything in the 2nd half is foreshadowed in the front half. There are so many callbacks and references. This is worth a few more views just to catch all the bits because it's so chock full of awesomeness, like how with the fight with the giant in the opening scene, you can spot the Wolf hanging out in the crowd, waiting for Puss to get crushed.

I do wonder if Death whistling is a nod to M and in the hall of the mountain king. I do love the way the path to the star reflects each of the character's puss's obsession with his lives, Kitty's fear of abandonment and Pero's happy approach to life.

Death's whistling is actually a callout to the Sergio Leone movie, "Once Upon a Time in the West," which has a creepy harmonica bit in it. And the Mexican stand off on the star is a callout to another Leone spaghetti western, his most well-know, "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly." But the reason Death whistles at all is a reference to a South American legend about El Silbon, which means, The Whistler.

The interesting thing with Perrito's map is the locations, I believe, are all references to dying as well - or Perritos near death experiences. Pocket Full of Posies is a direct reference to the poem about the Black Death/dying, River of Relaxation would Perrito's near drowning and Quick and Easy Solutions may be a reference to 'sewercide'. He puts a really nice spin on all of them in the moment because he seems to always look on the good side of things, but mentally he has to be really f'd up.

If you look closely, you might find a wolf a little early in the audience while he's running on the rooftops You might want to thank into the spider verse for the fight scene animations I love the fact that Jack Horner has a trophy room of all of the fairy tales that Disney had used, the biggest hint is Mary Poppins' magic umbrella and bag and the flower from beauty and the beast and the magic snacks are from Alice in Wonderland the grasshopper guy is Jiminy cricket... I feel bad he has to go through so much😂

Which one? I didn't pick up on many of the clues that it was the reaper, but somehow knew the first time he showed up. I think Jack Horner is underrated. He knows how sociopathic he is, he is very physically intimidating, and not there for any moral reason. Death wants boots dead because he upset him by being an arrogant child, whereas Horner just wants power and is aware that he's evil.

I just got back seeing this in Theaters for the third time. Great Movie. Glad I decided to go back and see it one more time cause the last couple of times I went and saw it my Eyes keeps bothering me. Third time is a charm. Finally pick up the Parts I missed. I've seen Spider Verse, animation is amazing; the point is that this is a PUSS IN BOOTS movie. It has no right to be this well animated and have an equally impressive story; especially being a sequel as well. In fact, it might be a hot take; but I like this movie more than Spider Verse. Not saying it's bad, it's amazing; but this is just my opinion! :)

So many people died in this movie it's crazy. Even when the twin girls were trying to tell Jack how many people they murder to get him those magic items Jack just play it off. The people in the ship bottle wow!

FINALLY, someone said "inspired by anime", not just SpiderVerse 🔥🔥🔥 And I have to admit, it's probably my first time when I listened to the post movie discussion with full interest because man, YOU GOT IT. The themes of the movie, the message. I just don't hear enough of praising for the main subplot and for Puss' character arc from other reaction channels.
