You know what I love? Everyone who ever had the map GOT their wish in the end, no magic required. Just not in the way they imagined it. Jack wanted to have all the magic, and he ended up literaly drowning in the most potent magic there is, but without the ability to control it. Perrito, altough he didn´t want to use a wish, said he wants a family and a name of his own. He got both with Puss and Kitty Goldie wanted proper family, and in the end, she found one, maybe not the one she expected, but one that is "just right" for her Kitty wanted someone she could trust, and she found it in Puss and Perrito (btw, did you notice how she removed her mask after she started to trust Puss, but put her back on when she tought Puss betrayed her trust at the star?) Puss wanted new lives, and he ended starting a new life with Kitty and Perrito It shows that what we wish for might came true, but not in the ways we would expect.

Glad to see I'm not the only one reading that Jack Horner also "got his wish". It didn't cost him anything major either, just his life.
@alexandruulesan70094 ай бұрын
Above all else, this movie is a masterclass in how to write twists, in the way that you don't even expect them. With the wolf, from the start we're willing to believe he's a bounty hunter, like Puss assumes, who just conveniently has a lot of death motives. Him being actual death manifested is an element that's technically unnecessary. He was already insanely intimidating and terrifying, and even if it wasn't said out loud, most people would have understood what he represents. Same with Santa Coloma, the way they bring it up, we assume like Perrito that it must have been a job gone wrong where Puss somehow betrayed Kitty. Even if you've seen the first movie, you;d never expect it to have been a wedding.
@justinalicea15904 ай бұрын
The Wolf being Death does change something that wouldn't have worked if he only represented Death: the chase. Him showing up and tearing down Puss's past lives only works if he literally is Death, a Death who has a personal reason to want Puss dead by his own hands. Which completes the terror of the previous appearances being for real and not just hallucinations.

I'm glad that my friend force me to watch this movie, because it's a real masterpiece. I know that DreamWorks always puts a lot of effort into their films, even the more "childish" ones, but with this one was a completely other thing. First of all, the fact that you are told, without even realizing it, that the Wolf is actually Death and that he has been chasing him since the beginning of the movie, is just magical and blew my mind when I found out (this is my favourite DreamWorks villain btw). The music and aesthetics are so different and change so much throughout the film that I find it incredible, because they can go from a more festive or epic melody to one that gives you goosebumps. And, I think they are the first that made a really realistic panic attack. I not gonna lie, every time I see it, I start crying because, it is so well made, it always reminds me when I have mines. Fun fact: if you watch the Puss deaths compilation in the trailer, you'll notice that the corner design is different. They take care of even the smallest details. Also I realised that you had the subtitle on spanish XD (Btw I recomend you to see the bad guys. Oh and thats the new intro, aparently it's gonna change the characters, except maybe Shrek, Kung fu Panda and How to train your dragon based on their last movie Orion) BTW, it has nothing to do with it, but this video has made my day. I was having some pretty bad days with the depression issue and just seeing your reaction to the new title made me smile, so thanks.

My favorite Wolf entrance is the first one because of all the subtle little details. After the bartender leaves, we get an overhead shot where the last candle of the chandelier is blown out (a call back to the doctor blowing out his candle when he tells Puss that he just died). From overhead, you can also see an empty drinking glass sitting in front of Death's stool that wasn't there earlier in the scene. Then, the closeup from behind on Puss as he toasts his reflection, and the mysterious glass is also visible in the mirror. Finally, the whistle which causes Puss to cover the mirror with his hat as he looks around only to have the Wolf magically appear and completely take Puss by surprise. Just the idea that a creature as big as the Wolf could catch a cat completely off guard is insanely disturbing.

In regards to Death being scary, I didn't get to watch this in theaters but I've been told by people who did that children were straight up crying because of how terrifying he is. One thing I liked is that they managed to get all three main 'categories' of antagonists in this movie. Goldi and the bears are the sympathetic antagonists, the ones you understand where they're coming from and can be 'redeemed', Jack is the straight up evil antagonist, and Death is the force of nature antagonist, the one you can never actually win against. And yes, Perrito is an amazing character, and if they make a Shrek 5 with Team Friendship included, imagine how much the combination of Donkey and Perrito will drive Shrek INSANE. I'd love to see that.
@omegastar194 ай бұрын
8:29 oh damn, thats an amazing detail, not sure anyone has noticed that before, good catch! 24:49 Perrito’s path has some very dark connotations if you look closer. ‘Fields of quick and easy solutions’ sounds like it could refer to suicide, and the ‘River of Relaxation’ presumably refers to the river that Perrito’s owner tried to drown him in.

I love Perrito and he’s such a good character! He aided character growth, tone appropriateness, and likable qualities. He has the heart to heart with Goldilocks and the three bears. He gets the beats to vent their frustrations and break tension by out-cussing then and reminds Goldie that her current family is valuable. It would have been so easy for the writers to simply have Perrito to make a joke during the panic attack to break the tension or make him to lift his sweater and tell Puss to rub his belly. A cheap payoff to his interaction with Puss earlier in the movie. But the writers chose the tonally consistent option. And he doesn’t speak until after Puss started talking after the panic attack. I would die for Perrito and he deserves the best! I would like to give his former family a piece of my mind. I want a Perrito.

I have to say, your reaction is by far my favourite out of any I've seen! You notice the littlest of details that make this movie so great! And your editing style is so entertaining too!! As for my favourite line delivery in this film, it has to be Puss line after Kitty tells him to keep out of her lives: "Kitty, Death is after me!!" It's such a simple line, but so well delivered. The prideful, boastful Puss in Boots facade has completely shattered as he finally succumbs to his fear. He sounds so frightened, terrified that Death can track him down even here and get him. And so he chooses to tell it to the only person he trusts, hoping that Kitty will perhaps save him from the cold but tight grip of Death. It's so full of fear and repressed emotion and I adore it for that reason!! Anyway, this was an awesome video!! 🤗

When I watched this, the Wolf was amazing from the start. "Ooo, handsome bad guy. Oh, terrifying handsome bad guy. Terrifying... multi-lingual... handsome... bad guy... *swoon* I keep telling people, if you watch his eyes it's not coins. It's the reflective eyeshine animals naturally have. And he's doing the "I'm watching you" motion. And I think he showed up because "The Legendary Puss In Boots" sprang up again. If he'd just stayed quiet, he wouldn't be the arrogant legend he's been hunting. The only complaint I have about this movie is the default Subtitles. Any time Spanish is spoken, they simply put [speaking Spanish].

Jack is the villain to Goldie as the two start out with a similar desire when you abstract it down to wanting magic to improve their lives because they feel it's empty. Goldie finds the fulfilment in her life that she was unable to see before while Jack only sees the emptiness in his life and keeps chasing that desire for something other than himself to fix it. He dies because he keeps chasing that desire while ignoring the emptiness inside him. That's what metaphorically destroys him in the end. A lot of the principal cast did the Spanish voices. The VAs for Puss, Kitty, Perrito, and Death are all LatinX and bilingual so, Spanish speaking audiences are greeted to their sombre tones.

But this shows that he cant just beated or killed, walking through the wall of magic with no harm, while ohers... yea... 45:23 another interesting thing, very agressive fighting style, used becouse he is not afraid of any harm

The extra info and translations you add while editing is fascinating to me and very much appreciated. I can discover new things, even as someone who saw it in theaters at least 6 times A detail I'm surprised you didn't catch while editing is at around 13:55 Once all of the pieces have been torn away from the poster it no longer reads 'Wanted: Goldilocks and The Three Bears - Crime Family' it reads 'Want Family'
@blockedblock52034 ай бұрын
45:44 A bit harder to hear in the movie itself but much easier to if you just listen to this song on the soundtrack, but right when Puss blocks Death's sickle with the gatito blade, Kitty's three-note motif plays (the same one you can hear when her 'Wanted' poster is shown), since she was the one that gave it to him.

I remember going to see this in theaters and i started crying in the middle of the theater. I had just gotten temporary custody of my niece after literally moving into my first ever apartment only 4 days prior. I literally had a mattress without even a box spring or bedframe, a microwave, a TV with a dvd player on a folding table and literally just the day before I had thrifted a pullout couch because I was looking forward to being able to hang out with my BFF. And then boom, i now have a child in my lap who just lost her Dad, was ripped from her mom, just reaching her hormonal stage and used to rule the roost back home (whatever she wanted, she got, right there and then). That didn't fly in my home growing up and it wasn't going to fly in MY home. So me and the niece butted heads a lot and that on top of everything with having my first true independence (im autistic so it took me forever to feel comfortable enough to move out.). To say i felt stressed in an understatement. My emotional support dog (Luna) was the only thing keeping me pushing when I was at my breaking point. And my aunt could see it. So one day she invited me and the niece to a movie and we ended up seeing this movie. I cried when Purito helped Puss through the panic attack. My Luna has done the same thing when my panic attacks come. Just placing her head on my and letting me hold unto her helps me through it.

In all fairness, I think Shrek is actually a bit better than it seems - it falls prey to the fate of most movies that inspired a lot of other things, in that it feels derivative, but it's actually what other things are taking their inspiration from. It's actually an interesting mirror to this movie - Shrek was an irreverent parody of fairy tales amongst a lot of other movies playing them straight, and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is a very sincere take on a fairy tale amongst a lot of irony and parody.

For some reason, people call Death just an antagonist. But no, he is a VILLAIN. He wants to end Puss' life prematurely. He doesn't want to teach him a lesson, he doesn't want to "just do his job". He wants to KILL puss. They even say it in the movie. "I'll take this last one, NOW" "That's cheating!" "Shh, don't tell." It would be different if puss had already lost his 9th life, and had somehow managed to escape him. Then it would be him just doing his job. But no, he has a personal vendetta against puss, he wants to KILL him.

So everyone of course finds Perito's path through the forest to be hilarious and cute, and it is, but it's actually pretty damn dark when you look at it a bit closer Pocket Full of Posies - Reference to the Black Death and how people would carry around pockets full of herbs, posies in particular, in order to try and block out the smell of rotting corpses River of Relaxation - Reference to the River Styx, the river that the dead went down on the way to the underworld. Also given that Perito was nearly drowned in a river, kind of doubles as a personal reminder of that Field of Quick and Easy Solutions - Full on reference to suicide, what many would consider a very quick and very easy solution to most problems~ So yeah, Perito's path through the forest is loaded with dark humor hidden underneath the colorful whimsy. Yet another example of just how hard this movie goes

In the final battle with death look a what he attacks. The boots, the cape, the hat. Everything that makes the legend. The little blade is not part of the legend. The really intresting thing is every wish in the movie came true: Baby's wish to take over the factory, Mother's and Goldie's wish for a family. Even Horner's wish for all the magic and none for everyone else. Death's too. Their weight in gold. And Perrito's too.
